Umm, nope.  I still play because I still enjoy the game.  I for one didn't play the game expecting it to be SWG2 like so many others did.  In fact I hated SWG so I was glad this wasn't going to be SWG2.

The best story of any mmo (way more than 1% of the game). I like the companion it gives a little extra story takes a long time to gain affection of them. I think they did a good job on the flashpoints and ops. Getting a group together to down a world boss is a ton of fun. I find the combat a blast, its a lot better than having only 5 actions like some other mmo out there.[mod edit]

I would agree that 99% of the people who bash this game have not experienced any of that.  Its fairly obvious especially when they support post like this one.

there is a lot to like as long as you are not hell bent on only liking things that are original.

if you are then you will likely never be happy with any mmo the rest of your life.

i like the story's and the fact that there is a different one with each class, i also like the fact that no mmo comes close to the way that their stories are implemented.

the combat may not be original but it is fun compared to other mmo's, i don't see how this combat is so boring when there must be so many other mmo's with combat better? nope, there simply isn't.

this game is far from a joke, its not original, its not perfect, but it has its qualities IMO.

The only game that came close was Asherons Call 2.

But SWTOR was the worst .

Fraps the combat then slow it down and look at how horrible the animations are.

Most of the people resposible for this train wreck of a game left or were let go.

I find it hard to believe that there are 500k people playing this game, but if there are I find it hard to believe there are 500k people that are willing to accept such a game that lacks so many features.

People will play anything these days.

You're correct.  There are millions still playing WoW and it is complete garbage.  I mean who wants to play a game that does everything for you.  I'm surprised there isnt an addon yet that turns the entire UI into one button that says "I Win".

@OP - Aren't you a little late to the party?  Most of us here have a pretty good idea what SWTOR is all about, many have actually played it, so what are you adding to the greater pool of knowledge?  That you didn't like it?

Join the club.....

It's really not a bad game, just not a terrribly great MMORPG.

Arrogant, Condescending, Dismissive, Elitist, "Meany", you speak as if these are bad things?
Still currently "subscribed" to EVE, and only EVE!!!

I was in the beta so I pretty much already knew it is a failed attempt at mmog. What I didn't know tho, is that this game is so strong in fail that every second of gameplay is a wasted time. So here is my review (only bashing and flaming so you can skip to your reply if you actually like this game or pay for it):

Would like to know what MMORPG you do like, far more intresting then knowing what you don't like. But hey obviously you like the populair sheep mentality where it seems more populair to bash a game then to actually tell us about a game you like/enjoy.

 1. It is incredibly boring. If you look at activities you spend on most of your time, then it looks like this:

1% - class story. Which is the most interesting part of this game actually.

9% - combat. Which is a very badly designed combat (more on this in point 3).

90% - running around the map and double-clicking to send your companions on a mission every 3 minutes.

Your point 1 only explains YOUR playstyle, unfortunaly it doesn't say ANYTHING about the game. Let me be clear it's okay to not like the game, I just have a slight problem with your reasoning because you don't really speak about the game itself apart from how YOU play it.

2. It is so NOT innovative that my ass hurts. It looks like EVERYTHING was copied from WoW except lightsabers. The most pathetic is ofc the copy of WoW's year 2004 skill system. Which is so fkn stupid (copying it) that I am not even sure if the guy who came up with this idea is not just completly retarded. I mean.... WHY THIS ?! WHY goddamnit....?

LOL even your point 2 shows YOUR playstyle cause that is all I read when people speak about WOW Clone which shows that certain people follow the same path playing WOW and do it to other games. After so many MMORPG's I have yet to find this mysterious WoW-Clone certain people talk about.

3. Combat design is just lame. It is like a Justin Bieber of combat systems. It is mind-numbing. Repetitive, simple, and basically, it makes me feel like I need only 2 abilities all game long while other 30 abilities are just useless.

Obviously you are capable of making a much better combat system. Of course you do not have to like SWtOR combat systems, but they way you speak about it you must be able to do better.

I had no idea that a game bound to succes could be fked up so much. With the StarWars franchise it is so simple to make a good mmo... It is like EA and BioWare tried their best to mess it up. They probably were thinking something like this: "WoW is already 5 years old, so if we make an exact copy of WoW, then everyone will stop playing it and come to SWTOR, we are going to be rich omg lol!!1111".

Unless you have lived under a rock the last several years you already know for a FACT it aint easy to develop a succesfull MMORPG, else we would have seen succes after succes by people who can actually code games.

So no SWtOR is NOT a WoW-Clone, unless due to your playstyle you make it one. I imagine people who speak about WoW Clones to enter a MMORPG, seek the first NPC, they do not take the time to actually read or listen to the mission, they just accept, follow the marker of the quest/mission, return to  NPC get reward. Obviously this makes almost any MMORPG a clone. Otherwise I just don't understand how people can see WoW-Clone at about any MMORPG released after WoW.

I am also geussing these type of people don't play many other genre of games, or perhaps they do and complain like wise with RPG's, FPS, RTS games cause due to specific genre they also have allot in common.

And this believe in innovation also has to stop, every few years we sure see certain innovations with games in general, for instance FarCry 1 was innovative at the time, Far Cry 3 we already know what to expect though certain technical innovations are often ignored, same goes for MMORPG's or any other genre of games.

Overall it's a shame OP that you didn't really speak about the game itself other then explaining HOW YOU played this game.

Oh and I didn't feel like buying SWtOR on release, I didn't even felt the need to accept my beta invite, cause everything I read already showed it wouldn't be the MMORPG I would have loved it to be.

Yet since F2P>15 I started to play and still playing, enjoying it as a single-player co-op game, subbed with timecards cause the whole F2P restrictions make a limited MMORPG a even more limited MMORPG and for 19,98 € for 60 day's I am entertained. Which is the point of why I game.

SWTOR wasn't  meant to be SWG, supprising how many people were expecting it to be SWG 2

Animations do not make a game, they improve on it, but they are not the game. I'm from an era of your DnD figures being little squares with no animation, yet the game was quite fun.

SWTOR was about story, as a fan of Mass Effect, THIS is what I came to play.

Who cares if SWTOR steals the UI. many games steal the UI of WoW. To be honest most games out there are WoW stealers when you break it down to the core of the game.

NEWS FLASH WoW stole crap from just about every prior game as well WoW is not a unique snowflake. WoW continues to steal from other games. I'd rather play SWTOR with blasters than WoW with bows. burt then again I'm entirely sick of fantasy so TBH WoW would be 100 times better if they simply re-skinned it as a sci-fi game.

Call me a fan, but I'm not, I do not care about the SW IP. SWG can die a horrible flaming death and I hope it doees just to piss off all those mooning "SWTOR should have been SWG2" people.

Actually I can't agree with you. If you like story telling, you will love this game. It does not matter if it's SW or not.

I bought this game because I loved BioWare games: Dragon Age especially so I knew what to expect. The game was everything I expected. I love every minute I spend there, and I played from the pre-launch 1st day.

There are plenty of people who thinks the same way as I do.  And class story is definitely not 1% in this game LOL.

You don't like it, it's fine. I can acctept and respect it, but don't imply that everybody else thinks tha same way.

Cheers

Who did wrong? The advertiser hired to sell the game or the consumer who put faith in advertising?

That's a big assumption. I love storytelling. I love immersive lore. I could not stand SWToR; esp the storytelling.

This was the biggest let down I've had as far as mmo storytelling goes in my entire experience.

I love the lore of eq, wow, rift, coh; and I was anticipating this would be taking it to the next level. And technically, they did, but it seems like the effort was expended on the voice overs rather than the stories or even the telling of them.

For example; I played a jedi consular. Good storytelling would have 'led' me to care about my master. This isn't the case. She got sick almost immediately and my character seemed very upset about it; but I sure didn't. I didn't know her.....I didn't care about her; and I thought her dialogue was cliche and trite; so I didn't even want to give her the benefit of the doubt.

That was coupled with the fact that I hated my characters voice; I hated his choices and the end result was that I didn't feel like it was 'my' character but rather I was driving some hack/cliche jedi toon some developer rushed out the door.

And my last point about the storytelling in SWToR.....it didn't feel genuine. It felt like each class story existed because the structure demanded it. Why did the bounty hunter have a class story? Not because some dev had slaved over a star wars fan fiction story for years that he had finally found a game in which to insert his work of 'art'....but rather the bounty hunter has a story cuz all classes have a story. So get back to work, make something up. Quick.

The stories feel like the product of the structure; good storytelling involves molding the structure to the story. They did it exactly backwards.

In summary; I thought the storytelling was cliche, cold, uninspired and I didn't feel invested in the character. It wasn't my character, it was some developers character that I got to drive around.

I also thought the same about Dragon Age stories (I know I'm in the minority), though I felt the Dragon Age stories got better; I thought star wars got worse.

I loved Bioshock. That was the level of storytelling I hoped for; I didn't get it in SWToR.

And so all I was left with was 'kill ten rats' quests repeated at infinitum and uninspired instances.

My guess is that there was not one person who had experience in or a degree involving creative writing. I believe mmo's will start to get a lot better when they start hiring writers to write stories instead of computer programmers.

Agreed, I do feel bad for the people who were to lazy to do any research or play the beta of Tor, but yes this and TSW are my favorite MMO's , if I want to play a traditional MMO I will play Vanguard which is the best of the traditional MMO's

I enjoyed the game for what it was. A KOTOR sequel. This would of been an awesome single player game, i even suggested it during the beta numerous times. I subbed for a month and even then i just could play it that much. Great single player experience, everything else was just kinda meh.

Did you play only Jedi Consualar? It was my first and I found it to be my least favorite. Try Imperial Agent though - it will blow your mind /grin. Actually I am making a videos of IA stories right now and links to it will be in my sig. I start to think that I will have an army of Imperial Agents as it's one of these stories that your decisions actually make a difference in the world.

entertaining post.  More than likely these sorts of 100% negative posts will just elicit counter arguments though and possibly even bolster the game, but you do make some valid points imo.

I personally loved the game for about 3 months, especially the warzones.  We had a good group of guys and gals that ran them every night.

The cut scenes got to be a bit much for all of us though, especially in group quests and we just ended up space-barring through the every scene... after the initial coolness of it (about level 4) I didn't see the point of having half of my game data consumed by cinematics.

Another thing was that half of my skills were passive, even some General Abilities, which everybody had.  Still trying to get my head around the purpose of having a passive skill that every character in the game gets.
