Originally posted by Khebeln Umm, thats what you got, lots of static new zones. Silverwood is still the same. You still have to destroy Kongeegon to save Silverwood. The Hag is still up to her tricks in Gloamwood. The world isnt evolving, its just typical MMORPG business as usual. New lands, new problems. Old lands, same old problems. In 2 years when a new elemental dragon comes to Rift in their next expansion, Brevane and Dusken will still be under siege by the Storm Legion.
Just because they added a few invasions from world events (that act like forces are being unleashed on Telara that have been defeated over a year ago) doesnt mean the world is evolving. Yeah, all MMORPGs do this. Its too much work to keep things up to date (just ask WoW who actually tried evolving their world). But dont try to sell off that Telara is evolving. It isnt. |

It is evolving through expansions primarily. But they have changed a lot if mechanics since launch, so the game is evolving as well. But I understand what you're saying.

Yeah the feel of the content such as lore, quests, and such in the old zones is static without much changing, which is not really bad as it allows the players to see the same general history leading up thte current events. Yet it would be nice to more quests that detail new thigns such as threats that arose after the fall of one group, or mysteries that could be looked into more deeply in zones revealing more about them. Even adding a true third faction into the game that would give us a different point of view on the groups that work wiht/under or are enslaved by the bloodstorm, not to mention that would give us a third group to fight in pvp too.
I would say only the current lore/story focus is evolving or rather better to say expanding really. The overall lore an world is not changing or evolving at all, but really staying true to how it was durinng launch or a short while afterwards. It would be nice to see the zones an areas change over time even slightly opening more areas to explore (at any level.), and wouod make rift feel less like a on-rails story progression game. |

Originally posted by DMKano Right, the mechanics have definitely evolved some. New souls, new way of faster leveling via IAs. Cooking and Fishing. Game is evolving, not the old world (Mathosia). And there is no reason at this time to try to evolve the existing zones to reflect current events.
Trion has definitely improved at zone design though. I don't think people realize how much of a turn off 'wait til 50, the game gets MUCH better then' is to potential customers/newbies. It screams lousy game design. If Trion is smart they should make some new zones (before the next expansion) to show off their better design so people dont have to hear that line.

Wouldn't be a proper Rift thread without Buzz Killington up in here. Themepark is not a sub genre, its an excuse. |

Originally posted by Foomerang I've concluced that both strangiato and Torvaldr actually like the game. I don't know if they both still play it.. but I think they want to (if the problems they have with it weren't there). They have an invested interest in it for some reason. While it looks like they are trying to bash the game, I don't think they are. They actually want to make it better with their suggestions. They do speak some sense you can't agrue with though.. no one can argue that adding Hunt Rifts and Carnage quests to the old continent would have been difficult and it's something that would have made a massive difference to some potential buyers. |

Yeah. I just notice that strang is in every rift thread waiting to shoot down anyone who get too excited. Yeah some people exaggerate about rift, do we really need the reality police in literally every single rift thread? What are they afraid of? He doesnt correct any of thefolks who bash the game with exaggerated opinions. Themepark is not a sub genre, its an excuse. |

Originally posted by Foomerang Not true. I know I have defended Rift when people make claims like 'Rift only cares about the raiders.' But there are usually other people quick to defend. Rift's defense is well covered. Vannor is right. There is a ton of stuff I like about Rift and Trion, but with Trion's experience and commitment its a shame that they havent tried to improve things that (in my opinion) would improve Rift's broader appeal, and its lasting appeal. And part of it is I think these issues have plagued the industry since 2007. Tons of people copy WoW, but they are busy copying the wrong things. If WoW launched as a linear game with only Kalimdor and a 2 weeks - 1 month to cap for semi-casuals leveling curve I do believe it wouldnt have done nearly as well. The IP and gameplay would have still made it a hit, but nowhere near as much of one as it became.
