NGE, LOTRO, STO, KOTOR, Lego Star Wars > NGE 2 (SWTOR). SWG>ALL. Above hopefully subject to change.

I'll go on record and say it now.  SWTOR, for me, offers the best themepark experience out there right now,  It uses the standard themepark model (some can't get past this), adds a great story, modern graphics, top production values and is set in the Star Wars universe.

I never expected it to be anything other than a story-driven themepark MMO.

If it lasts as long as LOTRO does (and I think it will), it will be funny to revisit this thread.

Agreed.

Disagree because Bioware are not adding content in a professional manner like Turbine did.

Bioware have given up, and faffing around with the cash shop now, putting little trinkets up for sale as content.

When they start adding more class story, housing, mount/vehicle combat then it will start becoming progressive like LOTRO.

Content within Warzones / Operation / Flashpoints / Space mini game do not count.

One Flashpoint in SWTOR is equivalent of plenty in other games. Same with operations. They are huge, story based and nothing like dungeons in other games... at least not the ones I played.

So it's not comparing apples to apples.

I do not care about Flashpoints because you NEED others to play and there is never on when you want them to be on. If EA/Bioware cared about the game at all, they would updated all areas of the game, like every other MMO

In SWG I never bothered with the Heroics or the City Invasions etc, but did other things. In LOTRO I do not bother with the skirmishes. But there is always something to do for EVERYBODY, in virtually every MMO I have played except SWTOR. the one area I want them to add content is class professions, then you can play by yourself if no one around OR with others if there are.

SWTOR is just limited in what you can entrtain you, and they do not update / add anything to entertain all kinds of people.

LOL there are so many people asking for FPs - it's impossible to NOT get into group. This is not single player game. Or better find a guild :).

Here is a guide of massively through Lost Island FP

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkcIIKDB7aw

No other MMO is a single player game either, but they still add content to cater to ALL

MMOs still need single player capable content (STO scales difficulty to group size so all content is soloable) so you can play. If you play, then you are online, when you are online, then you can play with your friends when they come on and make it more fun.

No single player cpable content + no one on to play with = log off. If logged off then when someone else comes on, they can not find you and so they log off = not many logged on at all.

SWTOR has so many problems it is not funny

In my opinion single player has plenty to do in SWTOR, there are dailies - now 4 zones with Section X added, you have space missions, warzones. Plenty to do in my opinion. And there is always option to roll another alt and enjoy exceptional storytelling :) Cheers :)

Which all eventually gets boring. Rolling another alt would not be so bad if 90% of the missions were not the same. The game needs MORE

At the end of the day ALL MMOs, every single one, have WAY WAY, lot more variety of things to do in them, than SWTOR does.

Even Far Cry 3 and Red Dead Redemption which are single player games (with multiplayer option) without a monthly fee have more to do in them than SWTOR does.

I guess you just like banging your head against a brick wall each day doing mundane tasks day in day out. What is ones persons junk is another persons treasure. SWTOR is a lot, a lot of peoples junk, but there is bound to be one or two people who find it a treasure. Most people sleep in cosy beds, but there are some who sleep on a bed of nails

When they are years on market they have variety... not in the first year after launch. Show me one MMO that has different ways to level in first year ...

We like different things..obviously SWTOR is not game for you... what amazes me is why you are so active on forum of game that you do not like /shrug.

I hope you will find the game to your liking. I love SWTOR, I love every minute I spend there... every time seeing something I've never notice before... but I am looking and not blinding myself in fear that I can actually see something.

Good Luck to you :)

Edit. Yesterday I finished IA story for my LS male Operative. At the final quest I was crying. It was amazing how this game could do it. Did you ever cry in any MMO because of your character actions?

Always knew that there is a reason why some hate this game so much... just so another game can be created. Wishful thinking imo. No company will ever attempt to create another SW game if SWTOR will fail. Mark my word.

The best case scenerio would be a low budget imperfect games that will be hated even more than SWTOR. Or ignored.

Since its the second largest Sub based MMO probably a very long time. Meridian is still alive so is EQ. I really don't understand how people think Swtor is going to die.  They aren't bleeding out subs anymore and are stable around 500k-750k subs.  They found a base that likes this game.

just because its not the game you wanted it to be doesn't mean it should die. Thats a VERY childlike mindset.

Since 500-799k would be well above their quoted 300-500k required they wouldn't have need to go f2p.  Before going f2p torstatus had roughly the same server stats as rift probably putting it much closer to 100k.  Only question really is wether or not they were below their operating costs before or after the 6 month bundles ended.

I don't think this statement is correct.  I looked lately at rift population on servers and there are only 3 servers in US and 3 in EU that have decent population after SoL was launched.  SWTOR before F2P had heavy or very heavy on most of servers with exception of  PvP servers and Oceanic.

Odd when I looked before f2p swtor was mostly lights with about half a dozen or so hitting medium rift did look quite similar at the time but as you said with fewer servers.  Guess this discrepancy is down to the merges or switches or even changes in the definitions(or even a combination of all 3).  Not that it really matters.

HFT.

Release a game with a very large established fanbase from 10+ years of bnet history when the market was still emerging and the casual base had not yet been established, thus ripe for harvesting a momentious self perpetuating playerbase people never leave because they have X hours invested in their characters, and their friends and everyone else plays anyway. Not discounting Blizzard quality... but WoW's success is as much about perfect timing as it is quality, if not more so. - Derros

Will probably keep it going for as lng as possible to recoup as much of the losses sustained as they can.

Not if the losses keep escalating due to not enough subs and not enough shop spending. i do not see how they will make a profit if they can not get their 500K subs

They would likely lower the monthly requirements as much as possible(losing staff etc.) and also try and get some advertising millage out of swtor for other things.

They could also run the game at a loss in order to avoid a bigger loss in share/stock prices(and just for the higher ups to try and keep their jobs).  After all what would have happened if the game closed down rather than go f2p?(not saying it was but is a could of)

Also, consider opposite. Lets assume that SWTOR succeeded. Other companies jump on Disney with requests  to create other SW IP MMO... sandbox style? different timeline? More money for Disney for licences. We do not know if EA has complete monopoly for MMO. Lucasart would be stupid to limit itself like that.

So opposite might be a better option. But... we will never know...

yeah, and the reason for the hate is : BW sucks in making MMOs and they should say good bye to their MMO ambitions.

I could name 5 or more dev studios and each one of them could do a ten times better job with a fraction of the budget.

TOR can and will be replaced by something that will deserve to carry the IP.

The sooner, the better.

ps: I suppose HFT=highlighted for truth, was that really so hard to figure out?

Most other MMOs people do not get finished with the game within 3 months, like what SWTOR did

SWTOR shows no signs of having much more content, it has already skipped to maintenance mode

You just seem happy that it stays mediocre, that you are happy it has no more class story, you are happy that the space game is a mini game. I am posting because the game interests me, but it is lacking, and NEEDS MORE FAST

I am looking, just that there is nothing to look at.

No player housing

No Beast Master

No Story Creator

No Fishing

No Life

Dallas Dickinson has admitted they had to cut out loads of things from the game, and IT IS a shell of game of what it could have been.

If there was going to be any longetivity to it at all, it would have stayed P2P for a few more years, while they added all that content that every other MMOs gets and what Bioware boasted about in 2008, and made it into the game what it could be, before merges AND F2P.

Whatever the game is now, it is more or less it for how ever long it stays active. EA/Bioware have showed no efforts that it will end up having more.

NGE, LOTRO, STO, KOTOR, Lego Star Wars > NGE 2 (SWTOR). SWG>ALL. Above hopefully subject to change.

No, but I've cried at SOEs actions, when my characters were crippled with the NGE!

Heartbreaking it was.

Then again when the game shut down. All that effort and care put into the structures and my characters, now all gone. Never gettinga attached like that ever again.

How do you think you will feel when SWTOR shuts down and you can no longer see your characters? Screenshots and movies are OK but definatly not the same

If you played through the IA story again, do you think you will cry again? I doubt it will be the same

No player housing

I hope there will be ship customization one day, not missing housing. Had 7 houses in EQ2 and never ever visit them, unless for fast travel. I know some players like it, but it's not a game breaker imo.

No Beast Master

What's Beast master - I don't remember anything like that from any SW movies unless we are talking about fat guys who were taking care of the rankor which was killed by Luke.

No Story Creator

Hmm I did not play any MMO with story creator... recently EQ2 introduced dungeon creator /shrug. It would be a difficult thing to do in SWTOR...

No Fishing

I don't think it would go with SW lore... maybe monster bounty hunting or something like that...

No Life

Not sure what you mean by this.. On The Ebon Hawk there are plenty of RP Players who make the game very life like.  But maybe I did not get what you meant.

Dallas Dickinson has admitted they had to cut out loads of things from the game, and IT IS a shell of game of what it could have been.

There is always a chance that things that got cut will come back to game one day. They already spent time on it, it would be a waste to just abandon it. Sure, the pace is slower than we would like to, but things did not go exactly as well as EA and BioWare hoped and adjustments were needed to accomodate it.

If there was going to be any longetivity to it at all, it would have stayed P2P for a few more years, while they added all that content that every other MMOs gets and what Bioware boasted about in 2008, and made it into the game what it could be, before merges AND F2P.

Only time will tell, how things will go. Content is coming though slower that most of us wish for. But it's coming. I hope one day maybe a year from now you can try the game again and hopefully find it more to your liking.

Whatever the game is now, it is more or less it for how ever long it stays active. EA/Bioware have showed no efforts that it will end up having more.

Disagree on the basis I'm having fun with the game and putting money into it and is the best themepark experience I've had.

The only reason i would put any money into the game is from Sheer annoyance form the F2P system the put in. After playing the F2P my opinion changed of the nessessity of putting money into the game. however if you want to do anything at lvl 50 prepare to pay for it.

I feel SWTOR's newest system is simply a person pokeing you in the face saying "ill stop if you pay me"

Because i can.

I agree then if you are the only one who counts

My opinions are mainly based on mass opinion (Over 2 million sales, yet 500K or less playing, all according to stats from the horses (EA) mouth), and not just personal opinion

Over 1.5 million people would not have bought game and quit after only months if it delivered the best themepark experience, they would all be playing it now, and game would still be P2P

You just liking the game, will not help in making it better, for more people to like the game.

I never said me liking the game would make it better. I said it was the best themepark experience I've had, but in no way does that not make me want the game to get better.

Go ahead and beat the dead horse more on those statistics, I doubt anyone on these boards doesn't know them. It's not changing that the game has more active players than a majority of MMO's ever had/currently has.

We have a difference of opinions, simple as that.

We all know that huge percentage of people who bought SWTOR were not strict MMO players. They bought it because it was SW. These console game players, who jump from game to game (somebody called them content locusts) would not play game longer then to beat content to 50.
