While I do agree with the OP, I don't agree with the refund. I payed for the game as well. I played about a month and then quit. I didn't ask for a refund as I used the product in which was sold to me and didn't believe I deserved a refund. Here in the States there is a saying.. "Let the buyer beware". You may believe you were entilted to a refund as they "lied" to you about the progression and then went back on their word... I on the other hand feel that you are entilted to nothing more then the product and open servers to play. Everything else is played by ear.

So again, while I agree with the reason you stopped playing, as did I... I feel the refund was not deserved. I suppose it's cool they gave it to you, but I (personally I mean, not you) would feel like a crook..lol.

I am truly not concerned over your reaction or any of the other negative responses. My email exchange with ANET was my unavoidable last step after multiple forum posts concerning the mis-steps in the game. ANET claimed to want feedback, yet forum posts that expressed opposing views were either deleted out of existence or merged to the point of dilution.

The elitism the Lost Shores update brought with the gated vertical progression broke with their own manifesto to their customers. I am within my warranty to get a refund. Breaking their word was why I got my refund.... its fraudulent advertising regardless of how they attempted to spin it thru reddit last nite.

I have not played WoW in over a year due to the vertical gear grind.  When GW2 turned into GWoW2 I left. My ethics are fully intact and not subject to your influences. I also applaud ANET for their customer service side and prompt refund. They are smarter than the majority of the troll pile in this thread. I am sure their legal department realized 60 dollars is less than a class action suit for fraud. Win or lose they have to divert resources and payroll to deal with it.

This post is for those who are dissatisfied with the change of direction in what was advertised as a groundbreaker in the MMO genre. They do have recourse. ANET is true to their warranty. Go thru your support section and follow the refund directions within.

It also serves as info for any prospective players wondering if they should buy this game. If what I view as flaws aren't a problem to you then enjoy the game. If what I have put forward as problems would make your gaming experience unenjoyable, even saving one person from the lost time this purchase would cause, then my post has done its job.

Arena.net is subsidary owned by NCSoft Corp. in 100%.   Same as in example NCSoft Europe is also subsidary owned 100% by NCSoft Corp.      Arena.net = NCSoft.     Same as in example Bioware = EA or Mythic Entertaiment = EA or Frito Lays = Pepsi Co.

Not sure why you treat it like totally separate entities.   Arena.net and NCSoft is one corporation.

Even though I'm not part of those (I definitely don't mind a sub free), there's nothing wrong with that.

No glass house here except the one you build in your mind in your constant search of opportunities to bash this game and its players.

It's when you ask for a refund for a no sub fee game you paid $60 and played for hundred of hours that you become a scammer. It's not when you pay $60 and are happy with what you get, or when unhappy, just stop playing after getting your money's worth of gaming hours. It's also not when you pay $60, play a couple of dozens of hours, and ask for a refund because the game is not for you. It's just when you play the crap out of the game (100, 200, 300 or more hours) and then come back whining that you didn't get $60 worth of entertainment and asking your $60 back. That makes one a self entitled scammer, a dishonest person, someone abusing a very permissive refund policy.

Nothing about Ascended gear changes the game or the manifesto.

All arguments about the geargrind/vertical progression is hyperbole, exaggeration and assumption. I have yet to see ANY effect due to the addition of Ascended gear. The only thing is fractals being all the rage, which ArenaNet has already said they are fixing.

Overall, I bet Vendetta is the kind of person who eats at a restaunt and asks for a full refund after eating everything just because the soup was salty.

In a subscription game, he probably would have just cancelled his sub.  It's a bit harder to show a company you're unhappy with your wallet when it's buy to play.  They really have little incentive to listen to you once you've given them your money.

While I wont be asking for a refun I understand this reasoning.

With a B2P game the only real way to protest something you dont like in the game is to request a refund. Even if they refuse the refund at least your protest is noted. WIth a P2P game you just cancel your sub to voice your protest, you cant do that with B2P.

The Fractals patch turned me off GW2, I'll go play another game that does the gear treadmill right. The most annoying part (for me) is the trying to appeas both ends of the market with a half-arsed treadmill. You upset the people who never wanted one in the first place and you dont satisfy the people who want one anyway since its a band-aid at best.

I figure I got my moneys worth in playtime and maby one day I'll pick up the game again so my account will just sit inactive.

It makes me a consumer fully aware of his rights as outlined by the game maker. I am no different from the person who returns any product for a reason acceptable to the products maker within the timeframe established by that product maker. I am just as legally able to exercise my rights as a buyer on the first day the last day or any day in between. I think its quite inconsiderate of someone to question the wisdom of the company who established this return policy.  Whining was your word not mine. My feedback was given to ANET and a cordial thank you and promise to forward my feedback was given. You have an opinion, nothing more, and I have a refund within the acceptable policies established by ANET. Enjoy your whine ... err wine.

Since I don't and never will play GW2 I can't comment on the game, but I feel the need to comment on your actions OP.

Just becuase you have the right to do something, doesn't make it right to do, simple as that.

You got more than your money's worth, then took your money back with a totally half baked reason, I honestly don't see why you'd even post this here as you knew you'd get flamed by 90% of the people on the forum, all I can think of is your trying to stroke your own ego abut how you got some cash back.

Maybe next time rather than spending a stupid amount of time playing a game go do some charity work and help someone other than yourself.

It's right to hold a company accountable for its product

It's right to exercise the warranty or return policy on a product as set forth by that company.

It's right to post my experiences ,good and bad ,on a product to an area accessed by those looking for real feedback in order to make an informed decision on a purchase.

Its wrong to be so swept up in fanboi frenzy as to personally attack aspects of a person's life that you have no knowledge on whatsoever.

Its wrong to think you are in the right merely because you like something that someone else doesn't.

It's completely wrong to think you are entitled to slander someone who played by the established policies of the company supplying the product.

Please go do something more constructive with your free time. Such as helping to end goldselling, botting and game pirating that ultimately results in the destruction of games like these due to knee-jerk patches that include diminishing returns, crutches in the Trading post, disabling of questlines, loot drops, and other things that were part of the "play the game your way" outlook that were not executed properly.

Even if it is allowed, asking for a refund after getting more than your money's worth out of the product/serive is still a scummy thing to do.

To keep my restaurant analogy going, one is not often forced to leave a tip at a restaurant yet not leaving one is still seen as a d*ck move.

Anyway, nothing in the November update goes against the actual message of the Manifesto. If you think otherwise it just means just misunderstood it in the first place; next time analyze things more thoroughly before making a purchase.

i only played for 2 weeks and i felt like i prob got my time vs money outta the game -close to it anyhow. Asking for a refund 3 months after purchase is a dick move imo.

Honestly  lets see.....

For the first 2 weeks the Trading post was not up .... to this day it still bugs out on a regular basis. Up until just after the halloween  event goldsellers and botters ruined both the PvE areas and the Trading Post economy. ANET put in antifarm code without thinking about the regular players and screwed the system even worse.

Goldsellers used the gamewide TP to facilitate their goldscamming activities. The sale of the mats from the botters flooded the market and due to the brainless decision to keep the base price from dropping below what a vendor would pay, instead of the economy self correcting it ruined both the TP and and chance at enjoying crafting.

The Lost Shores vertical gear grind was the final straw. I didn't buy this game to play a non-sub subpar WoW.  I bought this game on the premise that I could , as advertised, play the game my way.

My moneys worth ??? I bought this game expecting a minimum of 2 years playtime ... equivilent to my time spent playing WoW, but much less than GW and the 2 expansions I bought. That game is still on my drive and I still get a couple hours time in here and there.  It lasted three months and the experience doesnt even come close to what I consider my money's worth. Take off the rose colored glasses. I went three months with this buggy, non-social , single player based zergfest in the hopes that the ANET I knew would make it right. I posted in the forums, I took out support tickets, I did my job in reporting goldsellers and bots .... for what? To be smacked in the face by the exact gear grind I cancelled my sub with WoW over. No .. Not my money's worth .. not even close.

*applause* Every response made to this thread should be more like this. +1 my friend.

No but seriously. I like the way you put it. Too wordy and very silly.

Believe me those of us who got a refund, are hanging on to ever word you say.

After the screwjob Anet just did, I don't feel entitled to boost their sales figures. It's also not our job to validate bad decisions because a group of dedicated gear grinders wants to feel valid. If you like the changes fine but don't fault people who don't want to bankroll your habit.
