I would want a sandbox with hardcore pvp.  I think Star Wars is to diverse to waste away as a themepark.  I also agree that two server types would be best, pve and pvp.  There's not many companies that have done a good job with a sandbox having owpvp.  I love Darkfall, but the only that slows Darkfall down is the bad company behind it.  Loved SWG, but SOE ruined it....so with that said, i'd have to say the best fit to me would be:

1.  CCP-Had kept Eve alive in wel even during the run of the themeparks, yet keeping their game a true sandbox with hardcore pvp.

2.  NCSoft-Lineage2 has had its ups and downs, but its one of the longest running mmos.  If they could figure out a way to stop cheaters, as it seemsin all their games its easy to bot....then they could be great with all the updates they do for their games.

I'd say Trion is indeed pretty impressive... I think my choice, kind of surprisingly would be....

SOE : Yes, they messed up SWG but I think there were a LOT of lessons learned and quite honestly plenty of people LOVED SWG for what it wanted to be.  The game was far too ambitious for its time and unfortunately, as they were trying to do a lot that hadn't been done, they made a lot of missteps.  Also, it was a call by Lucas camp to 'WoW' up SWG, not SOE.

I do think SOE now is getting the right idea especially based on this article: http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2012/11/future-of-mmo-games/ - they're understanding the importance of emergent gaming.  I think they have the chops to pull off something great (and look forward to what they're going to do with EverQuest Next).

They bring with them a LOT of lessons learned in the industry and I think if Disney decided to back them, they could make something really awesome...

They don't exist anymore, but I thought Vanguard was a very legit attempt at making a sorta hyrbrid mix of token mmo features with strong immerisve world features..

The community may not have given them the kudos they deserved, but until Microsoft crapped on em and Sony rushed them out the door, they had a gem on their hands and I give them kudos for trying..

So if they wanted to try and create a Star Wars game like SWG where you are actually PART of the universe, then Brad and his old school team could more than likely make it happen..

Also, Disney just spent $4 Billion for the rights to this IP.  That was a *huge* investment, so I would guess they will do anything they can to get that money back and then turn it into a cash cow.  We may not see another Star Wars MMO for 5+ years, but we will see another one.

The faster this one goes away, the better, IMO.

Hard to say.  It might depend on what sort of game it is.  Is it going to be straight forward action adventure like episodes 4 - 6?  Would it be a grittier open system like the extended universe?  Would it be a hybrid or lean heavier towards themepark or sandbox?  Those are all important when considering who would develop.

Trion has done a pretty good job with RIFT but their business model is archaic to say the least.  I think they might just end up making the same mistake with a Star Wars MMO.  They are very themepark heavy too, at least with rift.

Cryptic and Perfect World I think would be a better choice.  While also sort of heavy towards the themepark, Cryptic has done a great job with STO under PWE.  How they do with Neverwinter will be important for them going forward.

While I like what ANet has done with GW2, I don't think they would be the right one for a Star Wars game.  The same can be said of SoE.  I'm not sure if anyone out there at the moment would do Star Wars right.  It might take a completely new team.

I don't play EVE, but follow the company.  I did recently jump into EVE and create a character with their amazing CC.  This character looks a lot like me.  The options for the face were insane.

But on topic, I want an mmo made by the Kingdom Hearts/Dissidia/VersusXIII team combined with the team working on FFXIV:A Realm Reborn. 

This is *obviously* a dream team since the KH team is tied up for the next 30 or so years finishing up VersusXIII and I don't want anything to distract the dev team of FFXIV:A Realm Reborn because I need that game NAOW. 

1) Blizzard - but will never happen.  Good developers don't need to give a % of their profits to IP holders

2) Valve - same reason as above

There's no one else I would trust.  I'm not sure Trion can build an artistically interesting or high budget game.  They do their thing well, but I'm not sure it scales up to higher quality and budget products.

Agreed.  Even for going with the cartoon look they wanted, it's still bad.

Hm, difficult question. Many studios could make it right or wrong.

I would assume Disney gives the studio a big enough budget. Maybe Turbine? Or even SOE again, to be honest. I dunno. I would at this time not trust to take it over than myself, haha. XD
