No, there was no program who detected the bots. No, there was not a research done, No, there dont have special tools...it was just A BIG MASS BANWAVE!
Good thing is that you could unban yourself in less then a day if you provide your email/key/char name to them so they can search in your account and check if you are a bot!!! Best company ever, best game ever, for dem fp2 games.
around 4.000 accounts banned for no reason https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/support/account/Blocked-Suspended-Terminated-Player-Comments
I LOVE GW2!! BEST GAME EVER! |

It happens in every game. How do you know that the new software didn't mistakenly detect a few real players as bots?
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game. |

Funny part that gamedevs always ban innocent players. My personal experience though is that the innocent player that you played with for so many years or read about on the forums that get banned usually don't tell the entire story. :)
devs don't ban at random will, certainly not where it matters paying customers....

Its a B2P game, what do you expect. The more legit users they ban the more people have to go buy another copy of GW2. Pure profit for them. They get to clean up the bots and make a tidy profit at the same time with collateral damage.
When I wake up, the real nightmare begins |

It is great, just don't play like a bot and you won't get banned in the first place. This is precisely why I love Arenanet so much. |

Originally posted by Hefaistos you got proof that they are innocent? As you say 'thousands of innocent players' are banned.....you got proof that they are honest players? Because I take it you got inside information that's usually only available to the technical team in Anet. I play EVE Onlinee for God knows how many years now, I know many 'friends' that got temp+perma bans because the devs are 'always banning innocent players'. And they ALL came to the forums trying to get attention of the wrongdoing by the devs, they ALL socialized with their friends and corps/guilds, they all were active on Teamspeak etc etc....but in the end they were breaking the EULA. And in ALL cases they turned out to be botters, RMTers, exploiters after all. and I learned it the hard way by having some RL friends - who wouldnt do anything wrong ever intheir life for 110%- botting in MMOs.
So..where's the proof outside of emotional players crying about them getting banned?

Originally posted by Muke Everyone on official forum who performed Restore Acces steps, got his account back after the one responsible search trough his account. Gold, Map Completion, bla bla.
A bot is usually 1 lvl 80 with 2% map completed. |

OP, so you quit the game 2 weeks ago and you still whine about and bash GW2? Why do you care?

It was 1 month ago, not just 2 weeks ago, when ive stoped playing Gw2. And i care, because this is NOT how a gaming company should treat their customers in 2012!!!

Originally posted by Hefaistos LOL. Obviously you've never owned and ran a company, much less managed one. And no, a manager at a burger joint doesn't count. Every company makes their policies quite clear that, by law, a customer or any other person can request at anytime. And like every other online gaming EULA, if they suspect you of doing anything fraudulent, you're flagged. Honestly, the whiners who were banned are the same people who think they're doing nothing wrong by participating in riots.
Case in point, don't do crap that'll draw attention to youself.
TADA! |

Originally posted by botrytis This. Real Players that played GW2 like a real person is supposed to play it (without thirdparty BOT programs) will get their accounts reactivated if you contact Support and provide them with what they need. In return we get thousands of BOTs removed from the game. Not a perfect system but there isn't going to be a perfect system as long as the BOTs and their Masters keep trying to cheat their way in MMOs. There's the real villian. Even if I was banned (temporarily) I would mind it at all because there is a way to fix the problem. A potentially problematic WIN for real Players, but still a WIN. |

Originally posted by Hefaistos It happened in Rift, with Trion banning people who weren't botting but got caught in the bot ban frenzy. It happens. If you think it doesn't you are either niave or just - well let's not go there.
They can appeal, what is the big deal. Better they catch the bots (so that people, you were one, that complained they weren't catching bots) and now that they are, you are complaining. |
