Question... i played TOR at launch for a couple of weeks and I remember there being a lot of talk about there being a "hi-res" client that basically makes all of the in-game graphics look like the same quality as is shown in cut-scenes. I believe it was available in beta, but then not put out for launch, resulting in my people crying. IIRC, there was a plan to bring it back... did that ever happen? Feel free to correct any of my mis-remembered info too.

it was introduced in patch 1.2 - that was April http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYacGjKXdj8 "High res textures are coming with 1.2 and Bioware is working to make sure that SWTOR can be run on the low end machines as well. You can see the difference with high res textures in the screenshot below."

They also completely re-worked shadows in Patch 1.4 http://www.swtor.com/blog/developer-update-shadow-optimizations-game-update-1.4

I love the fact that they keep improving visuals and tweeking the performance, wish some other companies would do so as well and not just think that next generation of hardware will fix it (and it usualy is not fixing it)

nice tweaking they doing. Remember playing the game on 40-60 fps. Now with no hardware change got 0.3 fps in a fight or if i start moving. and that the same weather i run low or very high graphic settings. No reply on forums. And its ongoing problem since 1.4 for many http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=553243 http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=553091

Originally posted by negativf4kk Maybe something is wrong with your hardware, for me the fps actualy got better not to mention game visuals. Its still not as good as lets say TSW with huge fights, but its same for pretty much every no dx11 game that is limited by CPU. Leader of Excessum Gaming Community www.excessum-gaming.com |

Swtor prefers AMD cards
Tsw is the other way and prefers nvidia cards That may be your issue. |

Originally posted by ShakyMo I have NVidia GTX 580 and I don't have any fps issues. I have the latest driver 310.33. On fleet with 200+ players I have fps from 40-60. On planets consistent 60+. I am playing everything on high settings. I know some people have problems, I don't think though that it is graphic card issue, more computer configuration issue.
Edit. I tried to play with Ambient occlusion on, but it lowered my fps down to 30. need a better card for this. Edit 2: I have 30" monitor and play on resolution 2560x1600

I have two Nvidia GTX 550 that I run in SLI. Last night in fleet with 240 people around and moving around on my speeder, I was getting around 70 fps. I do realize that these cards are getting a little aged and was planning to upgrade with the January 1st sales though. I have ambient occlusion turned off as well.

Someone asked about characters textures improvements after 1.2. Here are few screenshots of my characters in real game, not cutscenes.

I just wish the game wasn't on a rail system of exploration. All of the starter worlds were depressing since you had to follow the paths and could not venture off of them to explore. I really hope they eventually revamp them. They could redo them one at a time and make the game much better. I remember the first time I landed on Tatooine and thought that I was going to finally get to explore a planet...then I hit one of the out of bounds zones and logged out of the game. I would really like to play it again, but I need exploration in a game.

Hi-Res graphics only affects how you see your Avatar, though? (post 1.2) Other characters around you are still low-res?
Also, shadows are the death of good frame rates, unless you turn them off ...
They were good at launch, but it took a $5,000 computer to appreciate them. Want a nice understanding of life? Try Spirit Science: "The Human History" |

I like the new changes. I played only a month at release. And the upcoming changes to shader and shadow look promising. I always loved the way SWTOR looked.
