Awesome! This will be a great way to get new people to play this already extremely successful and immensely popular game. I can't wait to get some friends in who have been on the fence!

Weren't there a few people saying you'd have to wait a "long time" before a free trial was offered?
Release a game with a very large established fanbase from 10+ years of bnet history when the market was still emerging and the casual base had not yet been established, thus ripe for harvesting a momentious self perpetuating playerbase people never leave because they have X hours invested in their characters, and their friends and everyone else plays anyway. Not discounting Blizzard quality... but WoW's success is as much about perfect timing as it is quality, if not more so. - Derros |

I think It's a smart move. Even though GW2 is doing just fine, more new potential players is always good. They would do this sooner but they had to stabilize servers first and let the launch wave pass.

the trial is welcome news but its too limited at moment (one specifc weekend)
i look forward to a 10 hour "buddy" trial that starts any day similar to what GW1 does http://www.guildwars.com/support/gwtrial.php |

I want to test my new computer on this game but don't have any friends who play it. Pm me if there is a way to meet you in the game.

Originally posted by grimal I remember that too. It was the people saying that ArenaNet was a soulless moneygrabbing company who couldn't produce actual quality content, using their not launching the game with a free trial option as evidence of how GW2 is a quick cashgrab. lol People say a lot of dumb shit, this is the internet. Personally I wasn't among the people in TSW forums or another bashing endlessly until GW2 released and am looking forward to giving trials to a few of my friends who want to try it but can't afford to waste money cause they're a broke college student much like myself. :D

All dem QQers saying "GW2 IS FAILING" and getting e-boners. Seriously, guys. Look at yourself. You disgust me. Why? Because you have to bash every game, for no reason. (Don't like it? Nobody's forcing you to play or even look at the game.) Now those very few people who say, "I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED! THIS GAME IS SH@T" Should've waited for free trials you n00bcakez! |

This irony of all this is that the people who will deride this game (and just about every other game in existence) for having a free trial, will probably be claiming how it's alright for THEIR game to have a trial and make equally stupid rationalizations on it. I can't help but facepalm at this hypocrisy, yet I am drawn to it like a car crash. |

I'm not sure how capable their servers are of handling that many people. During the Halloween event, they went crazy just like they did at launch. That's probably why they're not offering a "normal" free trial.

Originally posted by Rohn I agree, why should GW2 not be seen in the same light as every other MMO that gives free a trail so quickly after release. Great looking world but bad game design is the problem GW2 has. With NCSofts latest numbers and this free trail i don't think GW2 is doing as well as the fans like us to believe.

I think GW2 is my favorite MMO just because of the fans on this site. Its like 1997 AOL chatrooms all over again. Keep up the great work folks! Themepark is not a sub genre, its an excuse. |

Originally posted by Rimmersman I've always seen the people who claim a MMORPG has failed just because it's giving out a free trial in a certain light. Looks like there's no need to change that now. |
