I didn't play the old games so i'd like to ask everyone for some info. First of all, i'd like to say i don't hate themeparks and won't hate or dis FFXIV for it and will keep an eye on regardless. However, what i am tired of mmorpgs which consist of "finishable" content and then are left grinding until updates. From what i've heard of FF, there's no PVP, which is perfectly fine. Is it true? Also, how does the PVE differ from the standart formula. It seems heavily group oriented, which awesome, but is it forced grouping ? Also, how do quests, story and dungeons work in this game? I also read about housing, rasing chocobos, deep gathering and crafting, mini-game, etc. Wil there be lots of non combat activities? And of course, as i asked in the beginning, what kinds of mechanics or systems exist to create more perpetual content? The non combat activities perhaps? EDIT: After the responses, i made a post with some follow up question down the thread. If you guys coud answer them aswell, it would be appreciated. Thank you. |

Current version is shutting down in less than a week. Try watching this even though it's long, it should answer some of your questions. You can use the subtitles on it.

we dont know how will be new gameplay yet. Game is in Alpha and not all content will be there at launch. Probably will be use Themepark system and not Sandbox.
The great difference probably will be Graphics and Game Immersion. They work hard on main story lines. |

That's it. Housing will not be in the game at release, chocobo raising might not be either. Housing will be instanced, and therefore will have absolutely no role in the gameworld. It's just fluff content that takes you outside of the game.
And the only reason there's no PvP is because SE cant be bothered finishing it and releasing it for ARR. It will come as an update and be purely isolated to a specific region + an arena so you won't have to participate if you dont want to.
As for combat, the combat is based off the staple MMO formula from 10 years go (healer, tank, DD), with tab target. It will be solo-oriented for the quests, because SE are copying WoW and making solo progression.
Just imagine WoW in a FF skin and you have FF: ARR.
The developer Yoshi has repeated several times they consider WoW to be "the global standard" and so are copying it as much as possible, while maintaining the "final fantasy feel", whatever that means. |

Actually, they are changing the UI and quest progression to be more along the lines of WoW. Besides that, though, there's the armory system (feel free to look it up), and the roaming primals which you will be able to fight in a guild (company) and summon whenever you want for battle within 2 weeks. Your typical gathering and crafting will be actual classes you can level up with their own skills and, who can participate in content (Hamlet Defense). Yoshi P said they will be making content for them to work together with Disciples of War in 2.0 as well. Also, in the newest letter they showed pictures of the Iron Giant and Adamantoise with large groups of people fighting them. These will be new open world events. Oh, and Hamlet Defense and Chocobo Escort will be open world as well. Maybe all of this isn't innovative, but it sounds pretty darn fun to me. That, along with the awesome Final Fantasy storyline they will most assuredly have (considering what's happened so far in the game), I'm definitely looking forward to trying it.

Where did they ever say Hamlet defense will be open world?

Thank you very much for the responses guys. Some follow ups if i may. I had already heard about making FF closer to WOW and read that it was mostly about the UI. Is the quest system really being changed to be similar aswell? From by knowledge, FF mmo questing is usually alot more group oriented with "epic quest lines" instead of hundreds of "mini quests" like normal themeparks. Is this correct? Also, i read on the wiki about the activities you meantion like Caravan Security, Hamlet Defense, Skirmish, etc. I thought they where open world, potentially randomly spawning, events. Are they really all instanced away? And with that, i have to ask, is the world seamless or zoned? And besides dungeons and housing (which is fine with me BTW), what else isn't seamless?I heard changes about it have been made from 1.0 to 2.0.

Not calling this poster a liar, but I would advise anyone against taking any random poster's statements as solid fact on the internet without some kind of links or proof to back it up. Some people like to talk like they are experts without actually knowing anything for sure, especially when they don't personally like a game and want to see the worst in it (or want it to just 'fail'). Worth bearing in mind.

Originally posted by MMOwanderer The only reason why the original version tanked so hard was because it wasn't your standard themepark. That is why they are releasing it again by inculding more themepark elements into it. From whatever i have read and sen so far. There is not much to differentiate it from your standard themepark other than that it is FF game. |

sigh... please bear in mind what I posted before... you don't know this guy and have no reason to believe anything he says is true or motivated by anything but the need to bitch on the game until he provides the requested sources. To base an opinion (as you do) off another's unsupported opinion isn't a good thing. |

SONY won't be affected, you got that right.... lmfao About the WoW clone comments: I doubt 2.0 will become that. I do know the devs have been playing WoW, but that doesn't necessarily mean they did it to copy it. I do hope they learned how to make a functional UI, though... I'll try 2.0, and I hope it turns out great. I'm pretty sure it won't, but I really, really hope I'm wrong about that. |

There is a rumor where FFXIV release could be moved to Q2 2013 instead Q1. This could be to implement these things Yoshida said will be not at release. I saw already alpha version and seems a lot stable, so have to be to implement content (if is true)

Because I am, obviously, not disputing it am I? I am just asking someone that is making statements as fact and whatever what their sources are. You don't think that's valid? Why not? I would expect anyone to do the same of me if I presented them in the same way. How have I 'insulted' him? By suggesting we don't take anyone's opinion, especially when presented as facts, on the internet at face value? o.0 |
