I don't know I have middlebrow tastes.
E.g. I hate things like the xfactor and big brother, low brow tv. But I'm not into watching glydebourne opera, or some Chekhov dramatisation either, high brow tv. |

to adress the topic at hand, a lot of time - particularly in sandboxes - new palyers reach a 'now what' point. it's had seeing the big picture in a game like EVE and understanding galactic conquest when you're in a belt trying to get that mean cruiser down but the capacitor keeps running out.

Originally posted by Quirhid Kind of dubious if it constitutes an argument yet, as of the first response. But you knew you were adopting a predjudicial stance, and so expected an argument, right? Originally posted by Icewhite Its not prejudice, its an observation. Healthy critisism towards self-righteous posters who've become increasingly vocal lately. Originally posted by Quirhid Soo...you being self-righteous is okay, but if they do it... No, really not trying to start an argument here. But a lot of your originally expressed POV is pretty hypocritical. Ignore the nattering of beldames, enjoy whatever you like. |

There are certain people with this mindset. However, isn't this mindset more prevalent in teenagers? I honestly don't recall having met anyone like this for a long long time.
Release a game with a very large established fanbase from 10+ years of bnet history when the market was still emerging and the casual base had not yet been established, thus ripe for harvesting a momentious self perpetuating playerbase people never leave because they have X hours invested in their characters, and their friends and everyone else plays anyway. Not discounting Blizzard quality... but WoW's success is as much about perfect timing as it is quality, if not more so. - Derros |

Originally posted by grimal You can watch it happen with pop stars pretty often. Groovy until they sell a few too many records, then the crowd turns. No surprise, it happens with MMOs too. The Marketing is pretty similar. Ignore the nattering of beldames, enjoy whatever you like. |

The thing is, there are always going be bad things said about everything. It's just that people tend to notice when critiques are made of popular items. It's just probability. There are some popular things that I dislike, not because they are popular, rather because I don't like them. For instance, I thought that X-Men First Class was a really bad movie, and it confuses me how popular it is. The same with Borderlands 2. Though, I don't think it's particularly a bad game, but I don't see why it's so popular. It's a retread of the first game w/ day1 DLC, that already has several other DLC packs shortly after its release. Other games (namely anything by EA) get lambasted for doing anything like that, so why does Gearbox get a free ride? I don't dislike Gearbox, but I'm not afraid to call them on their shit. By the definition that you established, I'm considered a hipster. However, I fail to see why that label should apply because I don't fall in line about few popular pieces of media. |
