i really dont understand some of the posters in here. are their really this many people that think disney only deals in animated kid shows?

Pirates of the Carribean? Tron? Avengers? John Carter? many many more.

disney has easily proven with their track record that they can do the IP justice.

i am really excited to see what they do with the indiana jones IP as it seems right up their alley more then star wars.

Online polls about a year ago chose either Robert Downey Jr. or Nathan Fillion.

And despite my love for both (especially Nathan Fillion) I can't see either as Han.

Definitely not Bradly Cooper though.

To be perfectly honest :

Its impossible for Disney to create a movie sequel such as bad as the 1-3 Star Wars prequels.

It was Lucas best decision  to make ....he should have done that after  the phantom menace desaster .

However  theres potential that Disney could morph the whole Star Wars Universe into an Galactic Tele Tubbie style

I would have faith that Disney would do the SW universe justice. They wouldnt let it go to pot.

I agree. This is going to do the Star Wars universe a lot of good.

The amount of cynicism pumping through some of these folks is revulting.

Disney cannot do a worth job than Lucas Arts have been doing already, I mean who cares about Star Wars any more? Was butchered a long time ago, the only reason why SWTOR had so much interest is because it had the then loved Bioware name and it was an MMO.

There are plenty of Star Wars games that come out that no one cares about.

What it will probably turn into is a new movie every 2-3 years ad infinitum, ad nauseum.  That's what Disney does.  It oversaturates the market with it's offerings.  Pulls them for a little while when sales start to go down, and then rehashes them in slightly new formats.

You'll still buy two copies and the collectors edition.

Either way, I'm going to the movies to gamble on episode 7,8,9.

Me personally I want to see Battlefront III, Republic Commando 2 (Imperial Commando), X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter 2, and Star Wars Jedi Academy 2, or a new SW RTS, however they seem to be more interested in social and mobile gaming (new fad) consdiering Zynga and other social gaming studios are becoming less popular. Highly doubt we will see any of these sequels if they try to flat out ignore console and pc gamers. SWG 2 seems possible though considering the flop of TOR and if their F2P venture doesnt cut it, with TOR down to less than 10 server, even SWG had more servers up during its last 6 months of life I don't see TOR sticking around the scene much longer when there is potential to make a new SW MMO minus EA/LA  with Disney in the mix it could be good or bad.

I definitely agree with all of this^

For the SW franchise it is great news. Lucas was good at creating characters and worlds, but never with directing movies. So it can only get better with new SW movies.

Disney has proven to be capable with bought franchises and companies, and new SW stuff for the future sounds good to me. Sure, it won't be like you experienced it as kids in 1980. Times move on. But I am very optimistic. ^^

As for SWTOR: I doubt it will mean anything. The game would need a total rework, and I doubt Disney would invest into that. Not even sure anything but totally starting from Square One would help actually.

NOTE: I dunno why people are so acidic. Disney never added Mickey Mouse to bought franchises, other than in their Disneyland Parks. Donald Duck didn't appear in any Pixar or Marvel movie, nor in Pirates of the Carribbean. So what gives? Lucas always saw Star Wars as family entertainment. And sorry if you don't like the Prequels, but I think many see the Old Triology in rose tinted glasses. With it's Hippie-like theme it was on top of it's time in the 70ies and 80ies, but you can't just leave things in a 30+ year old state. Franchises have to adapt to a degree to get new, younger people, and YES that sometimes mean to alienate old time fans, cry me a river. I think people should remain open minded to change. Not EVERY change, but some seem to want SW cemented in some 1977 ideal. Keep in mind, you were kids back then. You saw it with different eyes.

NOTE II: Personally, I always hated the post-Episode VI expanded universe. All about Thawn, Yuzhan Vong asf. was stupid. I hated especially now the destroyed all Luke, Han and Leia worked so hard for; Jedi Order and Republic both were destroyed within their lifetime. That was just WRONG on so many levels. So if they totally rewrite the EU, good riddance I say.

anakins kid has already been done in episodes IV, V, and VI :P and obi-wan never had kids afaik

There is a whole series of books based on 10-12 year old Anakin & the same for the 10-12 year old Obi-Wan just as they start Padawan-hood

Hey, the Jedi Padawan series about young Obiwan was actually entertaining. But I doubt they will make ANYTHING known. I mean, people would know the story. Doubt they make that.
