I was playing around with STO waiting for TOR to go F2P... now not so much.

STO has a far superior F2P model, with this one hotbar nonsense it certainly seems like EA simply wants their game to die.

The gist of this thread is not about subscibing, but about EA's "F2P" model.. which is not exactly free if someone wants a standard MMO.

 

A model like this drives me away.  The fact that it is an EA game is a little comforting.  The fact that it is a Star Wars game hurts, bad.

 

 

 

Oh oh, I didn't mean, this game is worth subbing over at all.  I enjoy it again, so I am.  Most won't because the end game is just atrocious, the pvp is meh (well, it's not bad before you hit 50), and it is lacking in some areas.  Others won't even think about trying the f2p because it's EA or Bioware.  I meant, if you plan on playing this game a lot, subbing is worth it, compared to being nickled and dimed in the shop.  If you plan on spending a few bucks, you might as well sub and get it all.  But, that's generally how most shops are.  It is very much free, all the way to 50. You don't get stuck below that.  There are some very questionable items in the shop, but you can still get to 50 free.

The SWTOR official forums can be entertaining, maybe even informative, but you need to skip through all the BS.  EA pays people to shill.  Hi Andryah :-)

 The offical forum is comedy gold at times. I can only hope that the people inside of the game itself are far better than what I see in the forum.  I think a lot of them are just insane fans and not employed.  Hard to think that being so insulting and ignorant of things would be helpful to getting people to sign up.

Hmm, so they're using the whole "Look we're now F2P!" thing as a bait and switch type of thing. That actually makes sense after looking at it. Make the F2P option look so bad that people would rather sub.

This isnt f2p, its an unlimted trial that does everything it can to force you to sub, just like AoC's f2p conversion.

Most restrictions of TOR are ok, some of them a bit harsh, but this 1bar-only... this will set a new standard in the category of "stupid design ideas" :)

Seems they don't get the point of f2p conversion (just like Funcom with AoC), the whole point is to lure in new players, and take their money. You can't get money from someone who leave your game early. C'mon, it's not rocket science...

TOR already proved that more than 1.5million people, who already paid for the box, didn't found the game worthy for a subscription. EA really thinks that new players, when get annoyed with the 1 bar only, will subscribe rather than simply leave? Lol.

yea im fine with restrictions but some of this stuff is downright crazy.. no hide helmet option? really? only one skill bar? also little odd they upped the PVP gear prices for F2P when you are limited the 3 warzones a week anyway...

it is still on test realms .they will change it when it gets public

you take a game that was recently subscription only and at full tilt sub it was not able to satisfy players with content or features.

Now you parse that meager game out into subcomponents?

This is a good speculation as to their intent.  If EA can MAKE this game fail, then they might be able to excuse themselves from their obligation with George Lucas .. an obligation which carries a high cost.

 

In essense, EA might be trying to get this game to tank, because in the long run, it's more profitable.  They still need to show that they "tried", which will be important in court hearings.

 No speculation. It clearly seems that way. All those restrictions have only one goal. Piss off the players  big time!

There is probably a clausule in the license contract with LA that if the game tanks, they can end the contract early.

The LA license for Star Wars is not cheap, you can bet on that. So as they are already losing money, it's better to tank the game hard and fast, so they can end the license agreement with LA as fast as possible to cut their losses.

I honestly see this thread filling up with all the cheapskates and freeloaders complaining that they can't have everything for free and hating on EA for being so evil and greedy.

 

The one person I actually kind of agree with. Though I think some better options for folks who bought the game and played in the past......needs to be better than just cartel coins. I actually won't touch the game, F2P or sub, being a recent horrific customer service experience I had with them.............in-game help, which I was told to email support. Emailed support 3x over the next  2 weeks, hour wait on a phone call before giving up and cancelling/uninstalling. Funny actually being I just returned to the game and was looking forward to finishing some toons, found out for some reason in server merges they had moved 1 high level toon to a completely different server than where all my characters actually were.....no clue how that happened. In "cancelling feedback" I left the comment of not receiving an help with the issue.........its been 2 weeks and still no response to any of the emails or the cancel feedback.

Sorry about the babble, just fair warning of horrid customer service.
