Originally posted by aphydork Yeah it's definitely not the same thing. It's actually more comparable to a game like SC2 where you have to determine what strategies work best and perfect your skills to do better. I guess what I'm saying is that people who want that gear progression that WoW had are going to be disappointed in GW2, it caters to a bit of a different crowd. As for me, I never did the gear progression thing, always quit at, or just before max level, because I did not find it appealing. In GW2 though, I already have two 80's, because I do enjoy the whole "try new builds and strategies" aspect of the game. It does give it a good amount of longevity. I can spec my elementalist in a lot of different ways that all have fairly different playstyles, strengths, and weaknesses, then take her into PvP or WvW and try out my new creation. This is much more appealing to me than doing a dungeon 500 times so you earn the right to do the next dungeon 500 times...I realize it is a point of preference though. Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

If you see no good or you see no bad in a game, chances are you are bias. |

The whole gambling part was the biggest deal but from the sounds the TP has them for sale at least. Not sure if it was added in after it was pointed in or not but pretty much the biggest thing was "Costumes need to be gambled for, trying to milk money for a 'chance' deal. Simply put just let it fade away if its not true. The fans really are the ones that are extending the drama out like crazy and making people dislike them that much more to bash the game.

Besides It's all about the casino style Anet running, the house always win that's what people are pissed off at. If it's not broken, you are not innovating. |

Originally posted by DMKano A game which is all about vanity and looking cool you are surprised why it is a big deal? All players wanted was that items offered through RNG from BLC or purchase through TP from gold should also be available by completing halloween events. Keep the items still rare but reward the players for playing the game and not according to how much cash you can spend on CS or how much gold you can farm. This was poorly designed event and left bad taste in mouth of lots of players. |

Originally posted by Creslin321 I did way more of the same dungeons to get my gear in Guild Wars 2 than I ever did in other MMOs. As for new builds and strategies, maybe my mind is fast at finding flaws in things, so I'm very quick and efficient at switching things in and out when I need then and when I don't. I feel like the number of combinations found in Guild Wars 2 is vastly inferior to that of its predecessor. I wish they'd implement Skill Capturing or something. That would increase the longevity of the game considerably. And this is less to toot my own horn than to put things in my perspective. |

Originally posted by aphydork I agree, as it is now, GW1 definitely had more builds. But I think that's to be expected. GW1 was out for seven years, and had three major expansions under its belt. And on top of that, it had the whole secondary class thing. So the amount of builds in GW1 was insane. But give it time...I think GW2 will wind up with a lot more viable builds as things age. Also...I'm not saying it takes me a long time to find something effective...just that it is fun to try different builds that change your playstyle. One thing that I think GW2 has over GW1 right now, is that a lot of the different builds just "feel" completely different, whereas in GW1, I thought the gameplay felt pretty similar all the way through. Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

As others have stated, it's a big deal because this game is mostly about how great you can look. Of course people want to dress up in cool new Halloween skins, but it isn't going to happen for a lot of people because the drop rate is so poor from those chests. I have to admit, ANet had me (and my hubby) hook, line, and sinker for this event. We had the credit cards in hand ready to make purchases.... then it was ruined, and ANet lost 2 customers. First thing to turn us away was the costumes being town clothes. Come on now, I'm not farming trick or treat bags and candy corn in LA. So that was disappointing because the costumes look great. My credit card went back in the wallet as soon as I found out that the drop chance was horrendous for the skins out of the chests. It was a poor move on their part. They potentially could have made as much profit, if not more, if they had just put the skins in the cash shop to be bought out right. Then also have some goody bags with random Halloween stuff in them. The items would have flown off the (virtual) shelves. Besides the cash shop disappointment, I am happy to have some fun holiday achievements to work on. |

Originally posted by aphydork I played Rift and it is all based on gear - period. Grind out the best gear in PvP or PvE to be Uber. Also in Rift you can macro so many skills to use 3 bottons to use many of your skills. It was downright boring. Also having to grind out the next instance to get better armor was not fun.
