No. Since 2005 there has not been a better MMORPG than Guild Wars 2. It is not only the best game since 2005, but is probably the best MMO that I have played. I have played them all. Just an opinion. |

GW2, at its root, is a third-person action game. It has some RPG-lite elements tacked on to it. Much in the same way how CoD or other shooters have RPG elements tagged onto them in the forms of weapon and perk unlocks. To me, it feels like ANET designed this from the "action" point up. Whereas a game like EQ or Vanguard designed the game from the RPG element up. Hence, at its core it is more akin to an arcade game than an in-depth roleplaying experience. This is why the game feels actiony but not character-driven. It's a good game, don't get me wrong. But I would not consider it an MMORPG. It's a massive online action game that tries to pretend it is an MMORPG.
Release a game with a very large established fanbase from 10+ years of bnet history when the market was still emerging and the casual base had not yet been established, thus ripe for harvesting a momentious self perpetuating playerbase people never leave because they have X hours invested in their characters, and their friends and everyone else plays anyway. Not discounting Blizzard quality... but WoW's success is as much about perfect timing as it is quality, if not more so. - Derros |

IMO GW2 is not the best game since 2005. Being the best or worst is a matter of individual opinion. GW2 is a good game but, I put GW2 in the same category as Diablo3. It was fun for a week and half but got repetive and shallow. I still play it once in a while for 30 min or so. IMO SWTOR, EVE, and World of Tanks are better games because they hold my attention for long periods of time. ***raises plunger in salute to season 3 of the walking dead!***
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. |

There is a difference between being a good fast food restaurant, being a good restaurant and being a good business. Speed has always been a factor in regular restaurants and you can rest assured that a restaurant that is too slow in delivering a meal, will not do well in the Michelin Guide. The only thing that being a "fast food restaurant" requires is that the restaurant serves the food quickly enough after it has been ordered, but being just fast doesn't automatically make the restaurant "good" in comparison to other restaurants. A restaurant can be any of the three in theory; one I perceive to meet my prejudices about McDonalds is that it is a bad restaurant, a decent fast food restaurant and a great business. |

better is completely subjective. personally i've had more fun playing Mortal Online for a year and 9 months than i've had playing GW2 for the last month.....and yet i would have to agree that on a technical basis GW2 is an incredibly "better" game then MO. |

Darkfall was more fun than GW2 for me. GW2 isn't a community's game. Darkfall's community is so alive and personal it puts others to shame. Its engaging and interactive, and easy to get into. If you kill a certain group of a 'factors' as they call themselves, you make a name for yourself.
I've spoken to like 15 people in my time in GW2. Everyone I see or saw in game in DF was memorable and I recognize them in the world. So yes, there has been. Although it is completely subjective |

Each gamer got his opinions on what is a good game, so threads like these are completely pointless imo...

You're going to have to give bonus points to the older MMOs because of the technology limits and innovations of the time. Ex: Final Fantasy XI and Lineage 2 were considered good back in 2004. Same with Ragnarok, Rf Online, until you got sick of the grinding. But all you had were grinders back then. Except Guild Wars 1, and honestly I have played that game more in earnest in longer than I have Guild Wars 2. I don't even feel like playing Guild Wars 2 anymore. Really, GW2 was seriously overhyped. PvP:Unbalanced and they put in point capture maps which the devs seem to love, instead of deathmatch maps which were the most popular form of PvP in GW1. PvE: The story is written for kids and is deep as a thin crust pizza. Arenanet's way of making dungeons difficult is to give every mob a large amount of HP and if it's a boss, give it massive damage. Compare this with Guild Wars 1, you were actually challegened in GW1 missions.

Everyone knows that GW2 is proly the best mmorpg...dont mean you like it the best... Everyone knows its all about the social and emotions you felt when u first logged onto a mmorpg and the friends you made and the guilds etc... For me the mmorpg i had the most enjoy playing was PWI on dreamweaver server...I met tons of players..guild fights were cool...and i actually felt like that sitcom Cheers where everyone know your name..i felt like i belonged.. GW2 is different...ya is fun and the mechanics of the game outshine most mmorpgs but...i feel like a pea in a pod if ya know what i mean... |
