Originally posted by Amjoco That may or may not be true, but I wouldn't say I quit DAoC or SWG rather quickly, unlike every themepark game I've ever played. I'm not saying I don't enjoy themepark games, I'm just saying I haven't stuck with one past 3 months. So IMHO, a good MMORPG should entertain a person for several years like the classic MMO's did. |

Originally posted by lathaan So you're saying you know how to play, huh? That you have skill yada yada... Well, then I challenge you to play a story mode or exploration mode dungeon at the level its meant to be played (no outleveling it and then scaling down) AND NOT GROUP WIPE EVEN ONCE OR DIE. Of course, provide a link to your video to prove it. Thought so! Give people more credit than that. Many players are very smart, easily picked up on how to play their characters and how to play them in group settings, and can spot the telegraphed shots the mobs do, BUT STILL DIE/DOWNED multiple times a dungeon, if not a complete group wipe. |

WoW TBC was my first mmorpg. I played for 2 years solid, then on and off for a long time. I did raid in a nice guild for a while. I found it not to my taste because it was too much like work having to show up on time, etc. There was a lot of choreography involved. I did it enough to experience what it was like, but it is not my thing. WoW was my "gateway" mmorpg back in 2007.
I was telling a dude at work how much I loved playing Oblivion and Morrowind. He had never played them -- or even heard of them. He asked if I had ever played WoW, and that was how I heard about it.
I played DF for about 2 years, as well. I had 3 accounts for me and one for my wife. I made some friends. I never became a 1337 pvper. My pvp skills were about average or a little below. I won some fights when I got jumped. And I jumped people unaware if they were farming. I met some people and did small scale pvp mostly. I got to know people who played at the sames times I did and in the same areas. We talked and shared info about what was going on. I liked that a lot. I did a lot of pve and enjoyed it. I quit because of many reasons most people who have played DF know about. I loved the game because it felt most like what an Elder Scrolls mmorpg would be like -- my opinion, of course.
My first experience with Darkfall was shocking. I got ganked by another ork in the noob spawn area. I was outraged that someone of my own race would try to kill me :D
I couldn't get my head around the fact that you could kill anyone you wanted to for no reason other than that you wanted to. But I was fascinated (by the freedom of choice and the connected responsbility for your actions with other players) at the same time and that led me to keep playing. |

Originally posted by lathaan Bad game design is "great"? That's your opinion buddy, not mine. As far as "ONLY" really bad groups facing the problems I mentioned...LMAO. Go read the GW2 forums specific to dungeons. Its the same complaint from many players of all skill levels. And as far as "content" and hitting it in the face???LMAO Again. WHAT CONTENT!?? As far as going back to WOW...done. ;)

Originally posted by Broomy OMG, there isn't much of a learning curve to this game, so if you can't get ahead of it and think that WoW has better game design, I'm not sure which is worse; what that says about gamers these days and the lack of intelligence required to play MMOs caused by your beloved WoW or how childish and easy WoW has become over the years. It was always an easy mode MMO compared to EQ but man it must have really gotten easy I mean with add ons telling what to do and when, I'm surprised you have to do anything more than log in anymore and press win. /sarcasm off I do agree with your content comment though. I wish there were more than there is, but that will come in time. |

Originally posted by Broomy I really feel bad for you if you think 'having challenging gameplay' = 'bad game design'. I really do. Do a lot of players complain about the dungeon difficulty? Absolutely. However, many of these complaints reflect more about the players than the game. Groups are clearing explorables without deaths. Some dungeons are harder than others. But no, not everyone is having these 'massive death fests' you and others are complaining about. It is most definitely tied to poor gameplay. I have to ask, have you ever tried to go toe to toe with a champion mob? Have you ever actually tried to think about why you died, and how you could play differently to prevent that from happening the next time? Have you ever actually tried using your brain to analyze the encounters in this game and come up w/ a solution? So much of this game can be handled by basic problem solving skills. Is a boss just hammering you with projectiles until you die? Well, you can either cry about it, or you can think 'hmm.. what skills do I have that can deal w/ this? Maybe you can equip some abilities that block attacks. Maybe you can reflect the projectiles back. Maybe he can be blinded or stunned. Maybe you just need some more health. For the earlier dungeons you don't even need good dodging skills to get through them. As far as 'content' is concerned. I'm really curious as to what you consider to be 'content'. What, outside of weekly raids & pokemon battles, do you think WoW has (content wise) that GW2 doesn't? WoW isn't a bad game, but I find it baffling as to the massive double standards people put between that game & others. WoW has fairly similar content to most games. Some games even have more (and GW2 is definitely up there if you are just looking at the shear quantity of things in the game). If you like WoW's content more, then that's fine, but it's hard to argue that GW2 doesn't have any content, when it's released w/ more content than pretty much any other MMO in the passed 10 years. However, enjoy being unchallenged. Glad you find a game that suits you. |

I dunno. How can you explain a game introducing strange things like Kung Fu Panda and Pokemon and succeeding? I'm gonna go with brainwashing and special koolaid.
Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure. |

Any themepark MMO will make you want to go back to WoW, simply because WoW was everyone's first true love and its still kicking. Its not wrong to want to go back to that game. For me its LoTRO. The first MMO I played, and fell in love with. I tried WoW later, and felt like going back to LoTRO all the time while playing it. Now I see the same feelings with tons of other gamers. Basically from what I've noticed, if WoW was your first MMO, you will most likely never enjoy another themepark mmo like you did WoW. |

People feel differently when playing different games. That's life. Me personally? I couldn't go back to WoW or TSW or Tera after GW2, particularly the combat. That's mostly why I play an MMO... to kill things. It just isn't exciting in those other games to me now.
no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

Originally posted by Params7 Maybe that's why I haven't bought the coolaid. For me WoW wasn't my first MMO, not hardly. I got into MMOs when I was pretty young, started w/ early UO, EQ2, LotRO, FFXI, etc. I appreciated what WoW did, but I was never completely sold on it either. It's a well polished game, and I see the appeal to that, but for me a lot of the substance in that game just wasn't there. (which I know may be ironic for some people, as they feel the same about GW2). Blizzard has always been good at dressing up games & adding that special icing to really sell them, but for me that's never been enough to convince me to buy things. I also really enjoyed LotRO. It didn't have the same amount of polish as WoW, but I thought it had much more interesting game mechanics, and the lore was definitely a plus. I especially liked the classes in LotRO, they were some of the more interesting class I'd experienced in an MMO at that point.

Because they're both Theme park MMOs but WoW just does it better.
That being said. Im sick of both games, but it took a month for me to be sick of GW2 and several years to be sick of WoW.

I think the main issue with GW2 is the lack of content, as well as nothing really to look forward to at end game. Once you get there, it's like ok, so now I just WvWvW all day every day. There is no "hunt" in GW2, there is no desire. At least that's how it feels to me. I did not come from WoW, I came from EQ2. I miss the raiding and the open world pvp hunting, 1v1s that meant something. /shrug Killing dragons is my shit |

@ OP, Seriously you should stop playing any other game. Just focus on playing WOW and stay in Blizz forums till you are ready to move on. Just go back to Ogri or SW and don't venture anywhere. Go, go, go, DO IT, NOW!!!
Pardon my English as it is not my 1st language :) |
