Dear OP, I share your pain.  GW2 showed me how much  missed my "Role" in MMOs (Healer) and how bland being this one man army could be.  What did it for me was the dungeons.  Aggro everywhere, no synergy in the group, players dying repeatedly and having to "run back".  That was the final nail.  I agree with other posters though, GW2 is a great 2nd game: its free, the PVP (if your into that) is interesting and the world/character/gfx are exceptional.

I missed the trinity and altho the idea of non-trinity sounded cutting edge and sexy, it is simply not my playstyle.  I love my role and feeling like Im contributing to my group/raid.  I didnt get that feeling playing GW2.

Current Games: WOW (what else?)

this says all about how great the game is. you have to L2P! actually. i mean it. only really bad groups (as in 'inexperienced') face your problems. Others hit the content in the face without loosing health. why? because its skill based. No synergy - i loved my ass off ...

people arent used to having to learn and adopt anymore. go back to WoW then :D

perhaps it's just nostalgia pains....just have to wait for it to pass.

You're possibly just jaded of the whole genre... time for a break from MMORPGs maybe?

The more I read up on this game through reviews and player testimonies I honestly believe this game isn't catered for the WoW player.

It seems to be catered more towards the CoD player.

Not really, it is more made for explorers. I think AC2 was the last game before made for us.

But you are right, it is not really made for Wow players and it never was, Strain already said so when the game was revealed 5 years ago. You can say that Wow is about a lot of things but it really is just about collecting gear. Your goal is always to get the next tier of gear no matter what.

No, its not.  It's about increasing your character's power, which is fundamental to almost all MMORPG's except for titles such as GW2 or Planetside.  That WOW choses to restrict it pretty much to gear only progression makes it rather boring to me, I preferred systems more like DAOC where character power was a combination of the gear you accumlated plus the realm abilities you earned from PVP. (and wealth of course which is the real power in games like EVE).

GW2 eschews this ever increasing power curve for a totally different design, which isn't going to sit well with a large portion of the MMORPG playerbase who are looking for it.

Does anyone identify with their "character" as a character like you do in most RPG's? Do you feel you are playing a "character" living and breathing in a fantasy world? Or... Is your character simply a "set" of skills you want to play? Think about it.

This game, by it's very design, does not attach you to your character personally, in any way, shape or form.

However, it still is incredibly fun to play and I will continue to do so.

I completely agree. I feel absolutely no attachment to any of my characters in GW2. I'm not sure why that is. I normally love all my characters in RPGs.

Maybe it's because she sounds so arrogant ("just one more confirmation of how great I am"... ugh). If I could turn off her talking I would do it in a heart beat.

You have no idea how annoying this is. its like new meme 'i can out run a centaur' or 'urge to kill rising'.

Shut up already. ..arghhhh!!

i wish there was an option to switch off this nonsense. And i thought 'i took an arrow to the knee' was bad.

Well, i think the there are 3 kinds of people.. WoW players, GW2 players and a very very small group of hybrids..

unless your a hybrid you will always be more attracted to 1 of the two games, but chances you are, are slim :P

I still love and play GW2, I can see why GW2 wore off on the OP quickly- he wants the trinity role and a progression path which GW2 doesn't really offer (thank god).

At least I can pick a class I like and play the role I specifically feel like, no more having to roll a melee class to tank, no need to roll a cloth weearer to heal/buff, etc. Granted specific classes excel better at a specific role than others (like guardian for tanking, elementalist for healing) but everyone can do them as they please.

As for progression... that gets old quickly for me, SWTOR was the last straw, no thanks.

Why do you feel that way while playing GW2,  because GW2 is fundamentally flawed by its design.   Nice try Anet better luck next time.

What game is not subjected to that? Name it, all it takes is one person on this board to dissect the fundemental problems with your favorite game.

He probably should have said fundamentally different by its design.  Unlike most traditional MMORPGs,GW2 is not about endless character progression (in terms of power) so it's focus really is towards another sort of player.

Depending on what you like in your MMO's determines whether you consider this a "flaw" or not.

Did the same thing to me OP.

One word "simplification". I left WoW because things were being over simplified. Things like abilities, talents, and requirments for gear. What I found was that new games like Swtor and GW2 simplified and streamlined even more! Especially in the combat area.

It was a real shock logging back into WoW after so long and seeing all the abilities I had and all the different was to use them.

When I eat chocolate chip pie it just doesn't feel like chocolate chip cookies. The texture, the consistency, it's just not the same and this is disappointing.

That being said, while I was playing GW2 I found myself missing the Trinity aspect.  I actually LIKE defining a role for my characters be it tank, heals, support and so on and GW2 doesn't give that option at all.  I feel like a one man army half the time and that I don't really need help.  Since the dungeon rewards suck anyway, I don't play them at all and PVP only holds me for about half an hour out of a 4 hour gaming session.  Always has.

So until more depth and character options get put in, GW2 will always kind of be that "fun for a short spout but not my main MMO" game that I pop in and out of while working on characters with meaning in other MMOs.

Yep.  I feel that.  So is it the lack of a defining role that the Trinity usually gives?  Or is it the lack of real progression mechanics past the level cap or that you get all your skills so early in your leveling path?  Or all of the above?  So, for me, the world design is fantastic, the stories are fairly decent, yet the character aspect, while I like the variation of classes, they just don't get me attached at all to my characters.  Hmmm hard to pinpoint the real reason, at least for me.

For first time in years i feel no attachement to my characters. it is a MMORPG after all. Where as in games like EQ2, LOTRO etc i actually care for my character.

In GW2 i deleted my lvl 80 engineer the other day and i didn't feel bad..i actually felt this is a better option to make an extra character slot to try another class.

I've played GW2 for 60 hours and WoW for 4 years.  I think the issue is that GW2 isn't WoW.  That's actually good.  Rift tried to copy WoW (right down to the same talent trees/abilties) and it got real boring real quick.  Why play an imitation when you can play the real thing?  I think the abilities, music and graphics are good in GW2.  However, it appears I have to run all over for quests and have a hard time finding an area to level in.  In WoW, I can sit in one area and quest all day and I can also queue for dungeons and do quests there as well.  In WoW, it always feels like I'm doing something, making progress.  In GW2, it always feels like I'm running somewhere to find something to do.  I don't real care for the dungeons in GW2 either or the lack of a LFG queue system (once you have a taste of this, it's hard going back to a game without it).

So like one guy said: play what you like.  I actually take 2 weeks off around Christmas every year and play the trial of WoW just to see what's changed.  I only have WoTLK on my account and I plan to use SoR to get a free upgrade to Catalcysm, 7 free days and then just buy 30 days of game time to completely immerse myself in the content and then I'll cancel it until next year :)

And I know you are waiting for DFUW just like I am. I think we will both be into that game full-time once it comes out, so let's see what's happens. Maybe I will see you in Agon.

And i would be interested how your experience with it(DFUW or the first one) was.. just out of curiosity.
