Personally, i felt the game should have been a puzzle solving, survival horrow mmo with very light combat and very heavy social structures. They want to expand on various combat aspects thats cool, just not my cup of tea. I was really hoping for something different from tsw. I love the setting, sound, graphics, investigation quests. But the core crafting and combat was a letdown.

Themepark is not a sub genre, its an excuse.

I don't believe this is every going to happen, they are to far in the red to invest more.

Then why would they bother saying it? It wouldn't be in their best interests to throw around lies

Aaaand you don't know if they are in the red. They said that develpoment cost were greatly reduced by already having their own (the most graphically advanced) mmo game engine.

We don't but we do know that they had to temorarily fire everyone and permanently let go of others and that their stock is tanking and that they basically said the game didn't meet expectations. Reworking their animations is probably not very probable any time soon. Its there just to keep your hopes up but probably very low in their backlog.

And, Im not sure how having the "most graphically advanced mmo engine" will fill that huge gap.

Yeah putting people on furlough (still paying, but not as much) sucks. Good to see they brought a few people back though.

No it didn't sell as much as the wild june predictions, but those gamers who have played rate it higher than GW2 on sites like metacritic.

Well, what having that great engine does is put the game ahead of the curve. They wont need to update graphics for the foreseeable future. This gives them plenty of time to fill in the gaps. If they are able to add content and develop with 200k or less subs, they should be able to keep building for quite awhile.

Even with just 100k subs they still rake in 1,5 million dollars per month in subs revenue alone. That's without revenue coming in via the cash shop.

You can pay quite a few people's salaries for that.

Just look at WoW. Over 10 million subs and you get what?  A "real" update once every 4-5 months and an expac once every two years!

Most of that cash coming in from WoW subscribers goes straight to Activision Management and their stake holders pockets, laughing their asses off within their huge Vila's, car parks... partying all year long on white beaches far away. LOL!

Huge sub numbers doesn't mean crap. People think that when you got 1 million or 10 million subs, the devs start throwing more free updates to you and cheap expacs every 6 months.

SOE has shown us that with a 250k-350k subs game (EQ1, EQ2) they managed to push out large game updates every 3 months and full blown expacs every single year!   Or what about TRION with their RIFT game?  Just saying!

And so far. Funcom is doing a hell of a job with TSW.

Critic reviews are much less useful IMO. Not saying they're not valid of course.

They said in interviews the game is profitable with the team and subs they have. We have no reason to go against that besides pessimism, so if you don't believe it that's on you. There's no reason why they can't rework animations and such if they're making money now.

So the 416 users that post a usually 2-3 sentence "review" which you can usally see their incredible fanboism(positive and negative) is any more useful? Metacritic goes under the same category as xfire, fun to look at but not really useful to come to any broad conclusions like he wants to make it sound....

Nice to hear the game is doing well! I only played the beta but am looking forward to seeing if this goes f2p or not. Either way I might pick it up sometime after the first of next year.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

They've recently announced TSW is in the black, actually.  Sorry to burst your bubble on that.

After firing half the staff.

They may improve how the graphics engine handles animation transitions but I highly doubt they will re-do old animations or create new animations. That would be far too expensive.

Actually, they already update animations every patch.  If you actually played the game and read the patch notes you'd know this, [mod edit]

Hmm...gonna end this here. Not gonna derail this topic further, as I can see it'll go nowhere fast.

I'm glad i'm a lifer :)

Critic reviews are much less useful IMO. Not saying they're not valid of course.

So the 416 users that post a usually 2-3 sentence "review" which you can usally see their incredible fanboism(positive and negative) is any more useful? Metacritic goes under the same category as xfire, fun to look at but not really useful to come to any broad conclusions like he wants to make it sound....

LOL!  If it's your favorite game (GW2) then it's all good and valid.

But if it's a game you do not like, then it's all invalid and not usefull.

This GW2 fanboism and TSW bashing is getting beyond annoying now.

The difference is that TSW doesn't need a million subs to thrive!  Unlike SW:TOR where EA already axed half the Bioware studio's staff when they were down to 800k subs lol.

You can bet the same will happen with GW2, when the populations keeps dwindling down even further, that the only updates you will be getting is PAID expacs and additions to the cash shop. Pretty much like what was the case with GW1.

I don't believe this is every going to happen, they are to far in the red to invest more.

They have a dedicated team working purely on the Dreamworld Engine.

In fact! I wouldn't be suprised if Funcom, at some point in time, is going to offer licesnes for their engine to other development houses!

The dreamworld engine is a very powerful and capable engine.

They can make a huge amount of money with this and infact rebound the financial situation of the company.

Noone has ever wanted to "lease" the Dreamworld engine in the 11 years it's existed, noone is going to want it now.

EA CEO John Riccitiello's on future microtransactions: "When you are six hours into playing Battlefield and you run out of ammo in your clip, and we ask you for a dollar to reload, you're really not very price sensitive at that point in time...We're not gouging, but we're charging."

Because Funcom doesn't offer it for lease (yet).

Before you can set up a lease programme, it will require a significant investment.

You have to set up a Training Center with staff to train customers into the engine and tools.

You have to set up a whole different kind of Support Center for support of the engine and tools. As it requires a much higher level of support.

This requires money and time. But ofcourse it will pay back quickly when license orders start rolling in.

Actually after restructuring the game is now turning a profit. It is a common misconception in the gaming community of how corporate finances work. Development is the most costly part of a game's life-cycle, but with a more realistic recognition of subscriptions, there is no reason why this couldn't be costed into current and future budgets. They have already allocated the funds for this, so, in time, it will more likely than not happen. If that time-frame is within the tolerance of the gaming community is another entirely different conversation. As for subsrciptions, despite the "F2P is the only way!" bleeting around the internet at present, they are also apparently growing. A game such as TSW can survive quite easily with only a few hundred thousand subsrciptions. Purely spectutively, I can see TSW leveling out between 300k and 500k within five years, possibly two years if they are able to maintain the delivery they are currently enabling.

Still doesnt make sense to me, They sack % of their artists to they can stabilize their finances only to re-hire them possibly putting them back in the red?

Only exception would be to be making sizeable profit and have the development costs payed. (Do we know how far along they are with that?)

Dont get me wrong, im a lifer and would love to see new improvements, I'm just very sceptical at the moment.
