Yeah, it's strange that some people have to bitch and moan just because one game gets developed that doesn't suit their taste. Instead of thinking "that's different, I'll try it and see if I like it" or "I'll just skip that tyvm" they get this irrestistable urge to visit forums and rant about how much the game sucks just because it doesn't cater to them specifically.

You don't enjoy permadeath? Fine, play some other game. You only have 99% of the market to yourself.

Or, just maybe, you could try the game and see if your prejudices can be challenged and your views altered. I know a lot of people come to enjoy stuff like FFA PVP, full loot, permadeath, etc, once they understand what it adds to the gameplay.

Doesnt stop the vocal minority from coming into GW2's forums clamoring for more progression, or any other nonsense.

Well I think there are several vocal minorities, clamoring for (or against) different stuff, but it's the same phenomenon; some people just can't get over the fact that games exist that do not cater to their particular tastes.

They get offended that *insert game of your choice* does/does not have *insert random feature*, and because they think their opinion matters a lot, they go into specifiic game forums bothering the people who actually enjoy the game in question, making unrealistic demands.

Morons coming to the DF:UW forums demanding a PvE server, or the WarZ forums demanding a removal of permadeath, or the GW2 forums demanding a gear grind, or the WoW forums demanding a FFA, full loot server - it's the same level of idiocy. Some inidividuals just can't accept that the world does not revolve around them and that other people might enjoy what they personally hate.

So if there are limited resources, it would seem to be in a player or group of players best interest to kill other players.  Kill off all the other competition and you can have all of their loot plus scavenged resources to build your empire and become stronger.

 

A zombie open world mmo sounds interesting, but this design is flawed.  What will happen is a small group of players will dominate the world and the rest of the player population will get frustrated and eventually quit.  As time progresses and those small groups become stronger, the barrier for new players becomes even steeper, and the game's own mechanic kills itself.

 

The idea is interesting, but I don't think it will work in the real world.

 I agree and disagree.  I hear what you are saying, but referencing a third rate game (in terms of player population) as an example only underscores the flaw in your reasoning.  Games succeed or fail due to how they are designed.  More players means more money and more development time to fix bugs and add content.  No one wants to see a potentially good game fail.  We all play monday night quarterback, that is the nature of these forums.

 

Some people say opinion doesn't matter, and perhaps individually there is some truth there.  But on the other hand,  collectively we represent thousands of years of mmo player experience across multiple genres and many mmos and developers who lack an appreciation of that experience do so at the peril of their games.

Been playing this since the morning, it's fricken hilarious/tons of fun, I finally died thats why I not playing right now. : /

Nooooo one is friendly, even when people group up its only a matter of time before someone shoots you in the back.  I got killed by a guy I was playing with for 3 hours, dunno why he did it, I can't ask him right now why. >.<

 

I like the 24 hour lockout, makes killing people satisfying ontop of taking all their loot.

This is a large tread im not gonna look over it all but im sure by now someone has told the people i saw on page one they have been very mis infourmed also please get the correct information from thewarz.com FAQ it will tell you every thing you need to know about this game! Every thing i saw on page one of this tread was largely wrong and very misinfourmed.

your not really locked out for 24 hours, why are people making this game look like your lockedout for 24 hours guys you can die 100 1,000+ times in 1 day your fine you dont have to stop playing. for people that dont know much about this game your misleading them with information that is not the whole truth

oh and also not that is matters because you never get locked out for more than 1 second atm the current "N mod" lock is 1 hour for Alpha testing.

I'm sure there are people out there that will like this harsh penalty.. I just hope you enjoy playing on your own 95% of the time cos there ain't gunna be many playing. Even if there was most of them will be on a 24 hours timer so you'll still be on your own lol.

They will change this (or it isn't true). They can't be that stupid.

In The War Z there is Normal and HardCore mod 

In Normal (on release but not set in stone yet) if you die the toon is lock out for 24 hours you lose all your gear ext. you KEEP your cherector proficiencies e.a.( sprint long, hold breath why sniping longer , Hold more weight in your backpack)

In Hard core if you die you start over from square one you can remake a new HC guy right away no wait.

you have 5 cherector slots if you want you could do 4 normal and 1 HC use number 1 as main and you can advance in  progression for the first 4 guys if in 24 you die 4+ times you can still play the ( Dayz way )

for the Newbs to this type of game Dayz only had 1 cherector slot and if you died you had to start over you started with NO weapons you had NO MAP you were in a larger world with far less to tell you were to g to defend yourself.

So compaired to Dayz , Warz is sandbox greatness but not as hard core as Dayz and you are never 100% lockedout if you dont want to be guys.

 I agree and disagree.  I hear what you are saying, but referencing a third rate game (in terms of player population) as an example only underscores the flaw in your reasoning.  Games succeed or fail due to how they are designed.  More players means more money and more development time to fix bugs and add content.  No one wants to see a potentially good game fail.  We all play monday night quarterback, that is the nature of these forums.

 

Some people say opinion doesn't matter, and perhaps individually there is some truth there.  But on the other hand,  collectively we represent thousands of years of mmo player experience across multiple genres and many mmos and developers who lack an appreciation of that experience do so at the peril of their games. 

Agreed, but I think you missed my main point, i.e. that a game can not possibly suit all tastes and that people need to accept that fact.

Some games are not designed for the broad mainstream audience. For example, DFUW is not made for people who only like instanced PvE games - it's aimed at the niche market of gamers who enjoy full loot and open world PvP. So coming to the DFUW forums demanding a PvE server is stupid and meaningless - and this point stands despite your personal opinion of DFUW's success (fyi the game has not even launched yet so I think it's a bit early to judge that).

The other way around, WoW is not aimed at FFA enthusiasts; if I showed up on the WoW boards and started clamoring for more FFA and full loot, people would write me off as a stupid troll.

So, what I'm trying to say is not that opinions don't matter, but rather that crusading for/against some particular design desicion which is part of a particular game's core design philosphy (full loot in DF, permadeath in WarZ, PvE in WoW, and so on) is both stupid and pointless.

If you don't like you don't play. It is good formula to get rid of whiners. Sometimes i got feeling that mmo forums are full of failed pvp players, if you insta respawn they whine, if is to hardcore they whine lol. Or maybe is age the problem for games like War Z, well guys you must learn to hide better because in 1vs1 you don't have much chance against new generation. Tournaments shows that most top fps players are under age of 20 and with 30-40 you have way to slow reflexes. But you can form guild and survive for longer period of time. So whiners you have a lot of instant respawn games on the market and leave this one to hardcore fps players

I would say most are under 20 because they have mommy and daddy to support them so they have more time to get better at what they do. Pretty much goes with any skill and all sports.

The people who have the money behind them to take care of the costs of living can devote more time in perfecting their chosen sport/skill and do better than those that also have to train and work to live.

Yes, all characters drop their loot when they die; including backpacks.

There is plans to have a 24-hour lockout on characters when they die, however that is being discussed to be reduced to half or even 3/4's of the time. A lot of players' thinking is that this will actually make death seem more fearful. PvP will still exist, however theres a huge risk involved with it. 

Hardcore characters recieved a greater amount of experience, however will get deleted upon death. I do not believe hardcore characters recieve better loot as that is determined by the server, not the player.

WarZ will offer more PVE aspects such as 'Alpha-zombies' who require military grade gear to kill, it will drop stem-cells to use for vaccines, enhanced building experiences for bases, better friend-finding experiences.

Played - M59, EQOA, EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG[Favorite], DAoC, UO, RS, MXO, CoH/CoV, TR, FFXI, FoM, WoW, Eve, Rift, SWTOR, TSW.

Sadly I think it will lead to hardly anyone being there . This game just needs different server options to be successful . As loads of people are saying on the war z  facebook page . Hopefully someone is listening .
