Originally posted by Rokurgepta I played WoW for many years and i always bought the expansions even though i was never hardcore. I played in my own style till max lvl, did some dungeons/pvp and when i had to do Raids i would stop playing :). That happened almost everytime. I thought the same would happen with MoP but as i stand now it didn't. A few months ago i was thinking of buying MoP just to add it to the collection but now i don't think it will happen or at least not in the near future. Played today around 20 minutes on the starter edition and made a panda hunter but after i thought....why bother when i have GW2? Seriously why play the same old, same old "won't change a thing" when i can play the game i like. |

WoW dip was pretty significant with GW2 release, no doubt about it, it's boucing back though and I am curious about data tomorrow when moP release will be captured. These data below does not have MoP yet included. SWTOR is more the same patern weekly, the dip is for day when servers were down for half a day.

Originally posted by Kakkzooka GW2 2.2 million boxes sold. Xfire has 11k GW2 players. Sorry but thats too small a number for me to say represents the population as a whole.
Is Xfire a good cross section of gamers? By that I mean casual and hardcore? I dont use it so I dont know but if Xfire users trend more towards the 5+ hour a day gaming crowd then I expect them to in general flood a game for the first couple of weeks and quickly move on. |

We still make up over 30% with mop release date of all time on MMOs.... Don't see how that is bad. Gw2 actually has 1/3 , wow 1/3, and whatever other MMOs y'all trolls trolls play 1/3. So suck it.

Originally posted by Volkon Sorry, but I have some bad news for you. Very little of the sample time included time when MoP was live in NA. So how about we check back on this chart tomorrow, same time? |

I have to admit: I was a little surprised to see the server I'm on so packed with people. I thought I would see a big decline.

Volkons OP says that was the count when he posted, that was an hour and 15 minutes ago or basically primetime east coast USA. Are you claiming MoP was not live an hour ago? |

So... Forgive me for asking this question, but xfire measures only those with xfire installed, so i play GW2 but don't use xfire, then i am not counted, correct? So these numbers represent those that use xfire and not the over all player base? Reason I ask is because the graph on WoW that was posted shows that more people are currently playing GW2 on the 25th then playing WoW on the 25th. But wow has like 9 million active subscriptions and GW2 only sold what like 2.2 million boxes? From my take on this, I would guess xfire may not be the best measurement of how a game is doing. It may show a trend about people who use xfire that are playing the game, but it seems kinda far fetched to say a game is doing good or bad based on the numbers provided by xfire. Course, this is my take and i wasn't exactly around for the storm that was swtor. To the op however- did you die when you fell off the cliff? Cause i noticed that if i am at full health, i have yet to find a cliff dive where jumping would kill me. |

Originally posted by Volkon Lol. Tbh I wasn't really worried about that, but sorry to hear about your Orr event, lmfao. You gotta be kinda careful there, even if you don't run off a cliff, it's not uncommon to have a random zombie yank you across the map and start munching on your brains. |

♦ Guild Wars 2 (32.9%) ♦ World of Warcraft (30.5%) ♦ Star Wars: The Old Republic (3.4%) ♦ Aion (3.0%) ♦ Metin 2 (2.3%) ♦ Eve Online (2.3%) ♦ Other (25.6%)
How bout post all the facts trolls. This is right from xfire, front MMO page. Yeah wwe hit drop. Still make more population than y'all! Of course, xfire doesn't represent all the population. But why not fight fire with fire? http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/innovation |

Originally posted by Rokurgepta Xfire records usage stats across a 24-hour period and then charts this information once per day. The 24-hour sample used in this thread does not include a full 24 hours of MoP. So lets see how the numbers stack up tomorrow when there is a full 24 hours in the comparison.

Originally posted by RathanX26 You are correct. Xfire is not really a good measure of playerbase size. It's more of a throwback method of determining population trends. I.E. It's not terrible at showing if a game is losing a lot of players (by showing a massive dip in Xfire numbers), but it is horrible at showing how many players are playing a game, because most just don't use Xfire. Tbh it's not a very accurate method of viewing data, but some people use it because they either can't find any other info, or they don't trust the official statements. |

Originally posted by eggy08 Well, I can't speak for who you responded to but I for one don't think that one case makes it true for all. But since it showed accurate trends for AOC, WAR, TOR, DCU, TSW, Rift, TERA, and every other medium and above sized mmo over the last 6 or 7 years, I think it has shown its worth at detecting trends within a game. It is less than useless at comparing between games, but has been extremely usefull for checking out trends within games. |

Originally posted by Volkon I have to laugh at that. I did exactly the same thing and I did end up quitting and going to bed. I was playing my engineer and trying to get one of the Vistas on top of a mountain. In my delerium instead of jumping I pushed a skill that makes me fly backwards.....straight off the cliff and ended up being deady bones. Had a laugh at least. |

Be interesting to see how many people play WoW and GW2 together or swap between. Most of my friends are swapping between GW2, Vanguard and EvE. None of them are playing or considering WoW at all. I have never touched WoW and even though its off topic, I don't have Xfire installed. So I will be one of the players that doesn't show up on Xfire and won't be moving to WoW.

[I don't really care what the OP feels is a reliable way of viewing the impact of another product on this one. Especially if it isn't!]
