I'm gonna pick up GW2 this weekend and I read that you get a different main story for each race. Any opinions on which ones are more fun and which ones to avoid? |

That really depends on hat you as a person like, but if you mean fun/humorous i might suggest azura, but ive only played a few of the story missions, the sylvari are more about awakening from a dream or something, which also sounds pretty cool, so its really personal preference, roll 1 of ech to see what catches you most ;) |

like said above all very dependant on the personal prefernce and what choices you make during the character creation.. i'd just play around with a couple till you find one that interests you the most
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg |

Kind of depends on what you like. When I first tried GW2 I tried an Asura and one of those plant people races, I wasn't 'feeling it' primarily becasue Ive been playing TSW and logging into GW2 just seemed a bit too lollipop kid stuff to me. I got bored and made a Chaar and that's when I really started to enjoy the game, there's a little more grit with them.
((I am sure I butchered the spelling of the race names))

Originally posted by Zamolxis Well, there are five slots, so make one for each race. But do realize that each race has a fairly wide amount of choices/sorta choices when it comes to personal story, so even though you might be playing a specific race, the personal story is not 100% the same. |

So far, for personal stories, I like the Charr (Guardian), Norn (Warrior), and Human (Mesmer - farthest along here). Haven't started the Asuran or Sylvari stroies yet.
The Char is, as another poster put it, gritty. The Norn story, is all about honor and reputation. The Human is all about intrique and discovery.
All in all - very neat so far.
Yes, the voice acting is OK but the plot is the story is fine. |

Axe gives you some INSANE powers for that short duration during that quest was a ton of fun.. also if you picked the "blacked out" option during CC you get a really funny storyline about you and a charr getting piss drunk it's really funny. I'm finding human to thus far be the most "typical hollywood epic fantasy" story - which for me is a big plus. The other races (from what I've seen) are a little more unique and a lot less generic - but again I like the generic fantasy epic. Probably because outside of MMOs I primarily play modern/sci-fi titles. MMO History: |

I only have a high level character ,an Asura engineer and I enjoyed the personal story line a lot. From the low level alts I played the less enjoyable was the charr, probably because I am not much a fan of that race anyway. |

Yes I said it (gasp) - the main story line in GW2 is horrible! I feel like im reading /listening to my 8 year old niece's mystery / coloring books or something. They are really that bad. I like the game but the main story is blah - I can't express it more it really is bland. I usually have to take a break from the game after running a couple lines of the main story because it makes me question the quality of the game itsself its just that bad. The above poster is correct that after TSW and even ToR I expect much better story. Lath |

I'm playing a male sylvari ranger and while the class is fun to play and he looks good in various ranger armors his story line is anything but interesting. Dull, full of cliches and the "choices" you're given in certain points don't have any memorable impact on how the story evolves.

Originally posted by Lathial There are choices - example with my Charr Guardian, I had to chose between finding and recruiting to new members for my group - I CHOSE, not the game. That changes how the storyline goes
The storyline I am furthest along with is my Human mesmer and had to choseat least 4 times - 2 different options; 2 times 3 different options, and 1 time 5 different options.
HOW CAN YOU SAY THOSE ARE NOT CHOICES?. |

Originally posted by botrytis How dare I say that? hehe Seriously, it does not matter what choice you you make the next part of the questline is the same. The story does not branch out- its the same story just in different clothing. its like a choose your own adventure book where all five of your "choices" all go to the same page. Lathe |

Originally posted by Lathial that's not true at all.. try making two characters of the same race pick completely differn't choices during CC and during the story quest pick completely differn't options when you are given choices.. The story events that take place will be completely differn't. Not sure on the ending as I haven't gotten there but so far they have compeltely changed what events take place. KIND OF A SPOILER There's a part of a Norn personal story where you apparently got blackout drunk, took a Charr warband vehicle out for a joyride and lost it. The story involves finding it which I thought was kinda fun. |

I would disagree with your assessment that your choices- "completely change...the progression...and sequence of events" I have 8 character slots - one of each class and multiple races- and from my experience it does not matter what choices you make in your personal story, you pretty much do the same quest. It may be a little different but not a big enough difference to really feel unique. For instance, my thief and elementalist (of the same race) made different choices but I go to the same instances and fight the same stuff...not really different. Lath |
