come on,  we cant take you serious if you mention GW2 and "real PvP" in one sentence.

If you wanna see real PvP , visit the arenas in wow.

Play Darkfall, DAOC,  EVE Online, Planetside, DC Universe, then come back and tell me which pvp is better :p

Funny the highest rated arena players I ever saw were on sale at a power-levelling site ...right beside cheap gold and level 80 for $199

Actually, GW2, like most MMORPG's, rewards overpowered character builds, higher levels, better gear, more play experience (not player skill experience, but knowledge about the metagame), and other non-player-skill based topics that are mostly contrived from CHARACTER skill.

If you don't believe me, then have a pro tournament winner play the default class setup and build, while a mediocre player (competant enough to play his own class well) play an overpowered tourny build.

I promise you, the pro will lose every time. Perhaps if the OP build was a newb, he'd win. Unfortunately, I said mediocre competant player, not a total newb.

Mediocre Competant Player + OP build > Best Player + Gimp Build (any build but a select few OP builds)

I disagree. I beat down the so called op thief / war builds as an engineer. My build consist of pistol/ shield, and my utility skill are the flame turret, rocket turret, thumper turret, and healing turret. My ultra is either the crate or the mortar. I first place down m 3 turrets in sight of a enemy, and use the thumper turret and shield bubble to knock then back. I then detonate my turrets as they get closer, making use of the trait. Many people say turrets suck in competing pvp, but I can easily solo 2 melees at the same time using turrets, so I believe that this is incorrect. I am not even that good of a player.

The Critical Hit Pretzel!

Flaw with lessen one is you kind of NEED to PvE to be good in PvP, at least in WvW. You really seem to try and make a point GW2 has 'real' pvpers, yet your pretty much stating stuff I can repeat with components from any game. Claim it all you want, GW2 really doesn't have THAT much skill involved. Its a very simplistic game once you figure out what the skills do and how to react. For calling itself a PvP, its honestly not feel all that strong in that department.

Heck, you even said it yourself, "...because they dont understand what condition-heavy metagame means." which only goes to show its knowing in order to be up top. Though we can go on how Condition AND Power both can do, or talk about survivabilities builds which lack those components but are able to make up for it by outlasting an oponent. And you neglect that people can easily have a utility skill on their bar to clean conditions.

Sorry, but theres nothing really doing what you claim in the game as far as I seen. All my observations are from quick glances, playing up to 80 and practically quiting with only rank 6 experience in sPvP (which isn't really that great for the pvp perspective, though better then WvW). Your claim is just as valid on a game, lets say Hello kitty Online (which it probably doesn't have pvp but screw it, it does to sound stupid in the example) as it does in this game.

What i really like about this game is that people who are legitimately good at the game are rewarded. I would always get annoyed in other games when developers would try to dumb the game down WoW style and make it so PvE carebears can steamroll legit pvpers because they were faster at leveling or they bought overpowered gear with gold or cash. But in gw2  this isn't the case because even though there are slight differences in gear doesnt make bads into good players. My friend is lvl 10 in PvE(he just does sPvP all day) was rolling with me in WvW last night and we were smashing people to pieces (2v2, 2v3, and in zergs). He later remarked to me that he is surprised that that there are so many people who are high level but they just suck so much and die to stupid things. They are nothing to the people he encounters in sPvP even when gear and level is in their favor.

Valuable lesson #1 for GW2 PvP: You play PvP, you get good at PvP. You play PvE you die in PvP.

Valuable lesson #2 for GW2 PvP: Bads whine about new game mechanics they are not used to (underwater combat, downed state, no trinity). Good players know how to adapt and steamroll!!

I cannot express to you how refreshing it feels to log onto one of my lower lvl alts decked out in greens and smash lvl 80 players in exotics because they dont understand what condition-heavy metagame means.

Please explain the massive hue and cry over the current tactics of Ruin Gaming in Wvw then.

WvW is not classed as PvP, just ask Anet.

GW1 had the best PvP experience. No other MMO comes close to that game's GvG. It took real skill and there was no way you can win by just spamming skills. It is very sad that GW2 hasn't captured the complexity of GW1.

And why is there no GvG in GW2? I mean that was the main thing of the whole series. They implemented the no skill WvWvW to ease people into the transition to GvG but then they scrapped it. Now we have "structured" PvP which is similar to RA/TA.

Very disappointing.

The Critical Hit Pretzel!

Um.... its... by far vastly simpler then a game like WoW *cringe* in terms of mehanics and skills. Yes you can make the gear point (which btw, in WvW its obviously still an issue but lets overlook that for now) but over-all it really doesn't do much to make it a 'skill' based games focused on pvp. Real pvpers likely would want a world where its actually open world pvp for one, as well as a challenging system, rather then one with, lets face it, very simplified combat. It really tries to flash you with all these confusing details but in the end its very simplistic in just how things work and what works and what does not. In the end your spamming 2 buttons and maybe occasionally doing a few more complex things that really isn't that impressive.

Any other MMo can easily rid of gear if they wanted and have a tornament style with normalized gear and it could claim just as much as GW2 that its for real pvpers, and even say its better then it when it has the option of open world pvp compared to GW2.

Your post makes ZERO sense. Have you even played the game? Open world pvp? Why is that needed to make a game depend on skill?

WOW is as simple a combat mechanic can get, it requires nothing but button mashing. I wanna see you easily win a 1v3 in WOW with people who has equal gear. In GW2 that is doable without even taking damage if your good enough.

While GW1 had awesome PvP, it was definately not the best of any MMO to date. I would give that to a game like DAoC or AC

But GW1 was 100x better than the easymode that GW2 is thats for damn sure. There is no need for synergy anymore in these newer MMO's, its pretty disappointing.

But what we’re targeting to do, is have a fun anniversary to the Ilum shenanigans that happened. Darkfall and EVE would have something to say about that, GW2 = no risk PvP.

The best or not, the point is they released a new game after all these years and suprisingly that new game has way worse PvP than its predecessor. That's something I can't comprehend :(

If nothing happens fast GW2 will be dead for PvPers... or is it too late already?

I honestly feel GW2 doesn't take anywhere near the skill at any level relative to WoWs elite pvp level.

Most of the time, you spam your abilities when they go off cooldown (some just have such super long cooldowns).  You get your PvP rotation (wait, aren't rotations usually for pve?!) and you can destroy people who lag or are unable to respond in seconds.

Don't get me wrong, I love the pvp! But lol come on.

Gw2 takes more skill than wow. Wow pvp sucks donkey balls. Gw2 pvp is fairly good.

Planetside 2 takes more skill and teamwork than both.

Games like eve and darkfall are more hardcore because of the risk

This game has so little skills it makes it one of the most easy and dumbed down pvp experiences ever. What you call hardcore i call skill spam. 5 normal skils maybe 2 of which are usefull. The pvp sucks so bad. I think you are here to whine about the fact that no one wants to do the games sPvP.

Real PvP is a FPS. Reaction based>All

MMORPG PvP is just numbers, positioning and timing.
