Sure thing, you can beat any dungeon as long as you corpsezerg the boss and one player is alive at all times. Seriously, you're in love with the game, but take any other dungeon from any other mmorpg you've played, remove the tank and put a respawn spot near and you get the GW2 dungeon experience.

As for gear, if you're not 80 and in full exotic in WvW, expect to be steamrolled a lot by people who are (equal skill assumed). The gear independance is yet another myth.

You need to apply your brain a bit here, you 3 weeks into the game lol. In 6 months everyone will be in exotics at which point your myth becomes reality.

rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW (10000 hrs on main mage)> oblivion > LOTR (600 runemaster/Hunter) > Rift (230 hours mage) > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR

Im having a lot of fun. Im having as much fun as WOW when I first played that the first month, as much as Warhammer the first month of that, and as much fun as LOTRO and SWTOR in their first month. I think if I had to choose which one was the most addictive, its a tie between my first experience with WOW and this game even though they are completely different to me. Im a level 34 Necro, Casual, play 1-3 hours a night, sometimes not every night due to real life demands, but I'm loving it.

There Is Always Hope!

As I said before, the dungeons do need some work, yes. It is easy to die a lot but the tactics to take down many bosses just aint good enough yet (even though I still dont see a team complete one with auto attack as some say). On the plus side is it funny to see people leave the dungeon in their underwear. ;)

And no, there is total gear independence in WvWvW, that is 5V5. But some gear dependance is not so bad, to get good enough gear to be competetive is not as much work as in most games but you still need some work for it.

And how does this differs from other mmorpgs? Every mmorpg out there with the most bare basic PvP has set of gears that are best for whatever role you want to play. Before you get to that point, you are struggling, you're inneffective and a liability for your team. Once you do get them, then you start becoming an asset.

And you really don't need 6 months. All you need is a credit card and you can get decked in exotic the second you hit 80, if you so wish (which brings us into another interesting discussion on whether the developers facilitates pay to win). Personally I'm about to get my 6 exotic set karma piece tomorrow (already have an exotic piece in that slot, just not set) and working on getting my badge of honor weapon (already got a crafted weapon but it looks horrible).

For me I still enjoy the game, I don't rush but the game seem to rush on me via leveling is somewhat increased after lvl 40 despite anet 1-2 takes as long as 79-80.

Besides that I still having a blast playing the game.

How about you guys?

Glad you're still having a good time. For me at 35th level I feel I've seen as much of the game as I want to for now. Going to take a few weeks off and if my mate hasn't taken his account back over by then I'll try it again to see if some down time will bring me a fresh perspective.

Ok don't apply your brain. You know as well as I do that in other games in x months the next tier of gear comes and slowly over time the gear differential spreads. Even if you were stupid enough to buy gear for cash when you can get it for karma for no cash you are arguing my point for some bizzare reason- everyone has access to the same level of gear.

still a blast, love finding new hidden places with goodies, love the crafting and i'm notably loving that the makers of WoWhead have decided to make Guildhead a place where all the data for the game including models can be viewed. This game was so good that even the Zam network created a whole new page to support it!

oh have to laugh at the people who said this game was tiny. All i do is explore do the occasional heart and gather and i'm level 41 with 20% of the map done.

Well, I don't think that most people will play that hardcore to collect 252.000 karma in less than a month for that 6 set of gear or do a similar big amount of dungeon explorable runs for comparative sets. Most competitive PvPers that want to WvW (sPvP is another matter) will work with crafted gear at first (either guild funded or AH bought).

Legendaries not having extra stats is indeed a pleasant surprise and diversion from the norm.

The game is certainy not tiny, but it's certainly not big compared to other mmorpgs out there. What sets it apart however is that no zone becomes obsolete once you outgrow it. You're more powerful (or extremely powerful if you're max geared), but you're never godlike. So you can visit any zone and play there and don't feel like you're wasting your time like in other mmorpgs.

The only gripe is that for high level people the only thing that worth doing in low level areas (besides coop with friends) are material gathering and dynamic events. The dynamic events however don't show on the map even if you have it at 100% completion.

Also once you have one character at 100% world completion already, making an alt and going through the same stuff again is certainly repetitive. Hearts for sure (especially the be the animal Norn starting zone hearts). DE however do break the monotony, so it always pays off to a.) do all dynamic events and b.) save your karma for gear sets or high quality crafting.

About dungeons: After i have done 3 runs i think i can explain the learning curve abit more for people that havn't done it.

- AC story mode (guardian) lvl 31) - full guild group

I died, allot, .... really allot .... We had a party wipe on the Teleporting boss. We had 3 party wipes on the lovers (then i noticed we could actually use the rocks laying on the floor and it became cake because i basicly kept the guy stunlocked in a corner :p). 3rd boss was cake. During the last boss i died about 5/6 times and we used the "Graveyard Zerg" tactic lmao. I don't think i need to tell you that i was NOT impressed by this first run.

- AC story mode (Guardian) lvl 35 - 3 guildies (the same) and 2 pugs

I died, ... once :) .... We oneshotted every boss. Don't think we never went in the downed state because we did maybe even more then in the first run, the difference is that this time we didn't let each other die but instead worked 'together' to keep each other up as good as we could. Overall i REALLY enjoyed this run and the only negative point i have is the fact that i got no loot at the end of the dungeon lol.

AC Expl. mode (Guardian) lvl 40 - 2nd option (ghost eater, easiest one they say) - Full guild group

We had about 3 party wipes all on the same boss, the one that comes running towards you with the spike traps which was simply due to figuering out a working tactic and once we had that he was quiet easy aswell. Overall i died maybe 5 times during the entire run (wich was pretty short maybe 1,5 hour). I must note btw that i changed skill 7.8.9. to a shield and 2 small party heals and that worked wonders in keeping people alive. Overall i was abit let surprised we got through the expl. so quick and so easy but on the other hand it was a really nice experience.  And remember that this was the easiest option from what i've heard.

TL;DR:  After doing 3 dungeons in different difficulties i can honestly say that the i have fallen in love with dungeon running in this game.  This is comming for a 6 y/o WoW vet who tanked Dungeons and Heroic raids from Vanilla to Dragon Soul.

I would agree, I'm at 75 at mo, and I'm focusing on jc to supply exotics for the guild. I'll probably do a mixture of crafting and karma to get a full set of exotics over the comming weeks and specialise my build to suit the gear stats. After that I can start branching out and creating more specialised gear sets. Longer yet ye totally agree legendaries appeals here too, nothing like standing about in a city with a big fiery sword:)

I've got a single lvl 50 character and some lower level ones. Don't feel like I've done a big chunk of the game yet. Lvl 80 doesn't seem to be far away, but even after that I'll have to play through the dungeons, craft, play more PvP, etc. Overall, GW2 feels like the best MMORPG I've played since Anarchy Online.

As far as WvW goes, replying to the person who had issues with his melee character, fortunately or unfortunately gear and level play a major role in PvP. The more geared with exotics you are the easier it is to stay alive. Also glass cannon doesn't really work for melee. I found that both a defensive set of gear and a defensive build works better in a small group/ mass battle environment. I do have issues with solo encounters but they are rare compared to the overall time fighting in groups, small or big.

This game is so similar to Warhammer it's unbelievable. If you played that game too you'll remember that you could join at early levels. In that game too a fully geared max level character could steamroll the boosted low level people.

What I did with my guardian when he was undergeared (I didn't really bother to play at earlier to 80 levels due to the subpar scalling as I described it), was that I was running pure support builds. Now I'm at the point where I can rush an enemy group, pull them in (with luck) and have my group nuke my position and finish them off instead of going for the squishier members.

dungeons really are a "work of art". most fun ive had in PVE. ever.

Dungeons are really the weakest part of the game. Either you undergear them and it's a massive struggle to get the synergies work in the RNG environment while rezzing and corpserunning, or you overgear them and it really doesn't matter much. Basically dungeons is what you get from any other mmorpg, just by removing the tank and the corpse locking that most employ.

GW2 is nothing like warhammer, lmfao. Warhammer only gear no skill. PVP is done different too, warhammer had it split up in different levels, you never faced and max lvl opponent in the 1-15 rvr zone. Stop spreading false information. Warhammer was a stupid wow clone with a half ass attempt at RVR. EA demolished that game. Alot of ppl working on GW2 comes from the DAOC RVR team, they know what they are doing.

I'm lvl 60 and can roflstomp 3 lvl 80's in full exotic if they are bad enough at the game, that couldn't be done in Warhammer. It all comes down to the combat system which is VASTLY superior to any MMO except maybe TERA.

Of course you can steamroll anyone who is bad. However, given equal skill and him fully decked and you not, you simply don't stand a chance 90% of the time. The gap is smaller if you are lower level and he's max level and on greens and huge if he's on exotic.

If you want a complete gear independant game you're better off in the mists and sPvP. WvW is very much gear dependant. It is definitely not very hard to acquire great gear, but it does take time/dedication, friends/crafters or money/gems/AH.

(Btw, the split between lower and max levels in Warhammer happened later because the lower level people were steamrolled by the max level ones, despite the boost. Even in the same range the early people had a disadvantage over the people who were about to move to an upper range.

Seriously this game is such an obvious evolution to Warhammer in both PvE and PvP, it's like Mythic made it. Only they actually made it right. And of course it will share similarities to DAoC, another Mythic game. Maybe Anet should hire the Bioware people too and make a proper SW:TOR as well.)

if you mean 70+fps in wvwvw as crap then i guess sure thats crap? i run this game on a laptop and i am on very high settings, the game does pretty fine for me. i can imagine it running even better on a budget gaming desktop.

I have both a laptop and a high end system, both runs the game incredible well and I never seen so many people on screen in another game. My desktop is running the game maxed out while the laptop at default.

I have a feeling Zefire is using old GFX drivers...

My desktop stats:

AMD Penomenah II 3,2 (running at 3,5Ghz) x6, 8Gb ram, 480 GTX.

Wish I knew what both of your secrets are because I'm running on a decent mid-range system (i53570K OC'ed to 4.2, GTX560ti 448 cores, 8GB 1600mhz RAM) and my fps drops to 45 and occasionally even 40 whenever I'm facing the vegetation underwater. It also dips into the mid to low 50s when facing certain far off distances. What's worse is that I don't even have the settings maxed - I lose about 10-15 fps when "shaders" are set to high (it's on medium now), and probably another 10 fps or so when I have the "All reflections" selected, so I have it turned off completely.

I will say that the engine seems to work well with multiple characters on the screen though, as I haven't noticed much of a decreases in performance, even when doing busy public quests. It's mainly just the underwater slow down that's been bothering me the most.

For the record, I'm using the latest Nvidia release drivers (released on the 13th of this month) and I honestly couldn't tell a performance difference between them and the previous drivers. I'm wondering if the older beta drivers that ArenaNet suggested would work out better...

I stopped after 1-2 week at level 30 when I realized that there were not much more RPG progression, and that the DE's were basically the same 3-4 quests repeated with different NPCs.

It got stale very fast.

Loveing it but takeing it slow never thought i'd keep with my Mesmer without trying another class tried em all apart from Mesmer and in Beta was going with thief/engineer for launch classes, never thought i'd get him to 23 as normally I seem to scoot from alt to alt but this class and the Asura is purely awsome.

if you mean 70+fps in wvwvw as crap then i guess sure thats crap? i run this game on a laptop and i am on very high settings, the game does pretty fine for me. i can imagine it running even better on a budget gaming desktop.

In my case I think it is the GFX card, a 480 beats a 560 by far. But it might also have something to do with the fact that I made a clean install of windows on a completely new SSD the week before launch and run no unneccesarily programs in the background whatsoever.

Or maybe (but not likely) is my hexacore actually doing its trick.

Still, even 40 in FPS is no disaster, anything over 30 keeps rubberbanding away, and actually seeing difference between 40 and 70 FPS is not easy.

Hopefully will optimization help you further, but try cleaning out your windows for crap and background programs, it should give you a little boost (and anyways dont hurt).

back to one button hack n slash games / console. yeah you got too much time in your hands i palyed alot myself and got only 70 ranger. but it is true, mmos nowadays hold players only the honeymoon period and then its done. so to devs, dont try to make your game last years just do it for one month and do it good ;)
