Originally posted by SBE1 I will say right now if you are only going to play for WvW just don't get the game until they fix it. You can not get in most of the time and the server balancing is just broken. Now when you do have a balanced fight the WvW is great and the seige battles are some of the best PvP i have experienced. No lag in PvP on a standard system with a 7yr video card. |

WvW is pretty sweet. There are queues and they can be long. I think the limit is 500 in WvW zone at the moment. I know they plan to expand it over time and there are overflow state servers as well, so sometimes the queue is reasonable and sometimes it is just way too long. There is only so much they can do to immediately remedy that issue so a little patience is required on our part. The wait is worth it. The combat is fast and furious and the actionable areas are nicely spaced to give room to roam but not so much that it feels like you have to walk for days to find the fight. Sieging is fun but it is still a misunderstood art at the moment. It will be refined by the players over time and Anet is watching to see what they need to adjust/add/remove to make it as smooth and epic feeling as possible. I feel WvW will become the crown jewel of GW2 but it isn't quite there yet. The lag issue is present, especially on lower end machines, but it isn't a game killer for many players (realistically). If you expect 300 combatants raging away on your screen at once with no slow down at all you are going to be miffed. If you realize that even current technology has it's limits and systems like WvW are pushing those limits you'll be fine. My lap top (i5 2.9ghz/8 gigs ram/nvidia 555M) does fine. It isn't the most glorious thing ever but it's functional even in WvW. I play on medium setting with shadows on low. In the end, if you (like myself) were a DAOC RvR fan, you will enjoy WvW. The rest of the game is pretty bad@ss in it's own right as well, so go for it and I think you'll be rewarded! |

This is WvW = 4 hour wait time, get in 5 min run to fight, impossible to have organization with 200 gamers(30% raging 12 year olds), fight and battle or defend for hour or so, realize that there is no point to what is going on (We take this now you take it back 2 hours later.. k?), get killed, 5min run back, get killed, "why you no revive me?" 5 min run back, "common sense says we need to go defend this point", NO MUST CHASE DOWN PEOPLE AND KILL THEM OFF AWAY FROM ANYTHING MEANINGFUL" But I will say it was fun for the first hour before it became repetitive and meaningless. |

WvW is sadly NOTHING like DAoC. It is like wintergrasp with 3 factions and bigger maps. Also it is laggy as hell: My new pc (bought in may for d3/gw2) gets 60+ fps in mid settings in PvE but in WvW I get ~15 fps in large battles (in minimum settings). HD6870, i3 2120, 8gb ram btw.

I can share my vieuw with you on some points you are interested in: WvW queues: All those 3 servers have 1 to 5 hours queue for WvW, there seems to be a bug that if you change zone queue is reseted (not confirmed i think?) I think the numbers are 165v165v165 or 150v150v150 for the time being.
Ive also been in battles where people defend their keep like its the last piece of heaven. I have no lag tbh, my system is from 2008..I7extreme 920 2.6mhz - Ati 4859 - 6gig ram. Multi core procesors are doing quite good in GW2 specialy Intel + Ati cards, ive heared alot of Nvidia users with a 680 are heaving low fps, iam not a tech guy so i cant comment on that one as i have no Nvidia card :) Like i said my system is quite old in terms for gaming and it runs GW2 quite good, except when you have 50 deffenders and 50 attackers around and all that violance is making my hamsters die to 10/15 fps, even on low settings. If you have a solid gaming rig i expect 30 fps+ in those monster situations tough :) http://speedtest.net/result/2112016336.png |

I think it's ~100 players per zone per faction (red/green/blue), yesterday all the zones were full and queued, it was ridiculous. |

Botry:
Seems like someone else doesn't understand instancing WvW IS NOT INSTANCED it is zoned just like the pve areas and the cities. It's is not instanced because there is just one copy of each map. SPVP and dungeons and the personal story IS INSTANCED everything else including WVW IS ZONED |

Originally posted by SBE1 1- There are 4 massive maps total, each map holds 500 players so WvW total is 2000 players. zerg's happen most notably during keep / castle siege and defence. 2- this is where it get's interesting, fun and somewhat complicated, see you can go bash on the keep door with 50+ players, or you can take supply with you and construct siege weapons like catapults, battling rams and ballista to take down the door quicker, you can also do hit and run missions or simply distraction tactics to slow down the enemy while you take other keeps, there's so much strategy here it's impossible to tell all. 3- this is a point of confusion atm, some people claim to have lag but in reality the fact is their system cannot handle the massive battles and the fps drops drastically, if you have a good system (intel i5k or better) with a decent gpu you will almost never experience any FPS / lag issues at all, notice I didn't say it never happens it just very rarely does. |

Still using his email will make sure it is linked to his email, he will receive a email with the registration info later on, but you also need to select a user id and password for him at start. If you see no good or you see no bad in a game, chances are you are bias. |

1) My primary focus is PvP, particularly large-scale open world "zerg" PvP. I was really excited about hearing the WvWvW thing ala DAOC style. However, I then read about ques (long ques) to get into WvWvW. So I'm wondering: how many people are allowed in WvWvW at a time? Is it zergy (which for me is fun), or is it small man teams roaming around? Not 100% sure about this point, but from experience, typically during prime time, you WILL be in queue. Theres no real avoiding it. Once the hype is done and a lot stop playing, I'm sure the queue will lessen and you can get in easier.
2) How are the seige battles? Is it primarily focusing on doors or is there some additional strategy? Are most forts well defended or do people just go from one objective to the next? The worst example would be say SWTOR where objectives could be taken in Ilum by 1 person in about 10 seconds. The best example would be classic DAOC defended relic keeps. Truthfully, its all about doors. It looks like they were considering breaking walls and other factors, but right now its all on doors. Strategy is pretty limited though typically will defend or attack. In terms of defending/attacking, its not bad at all and it can get quite hectic, though its pretty much goes that the biggest zerg will win, with Seige weapons for offense playing quite a large part in an easier victory. 3) How is the lag in WvWvW? Eh... bit iffy at times though not to bad, mostly the noraml expectations of zerg verse zerg.
If your really into DAOC, you probably would really enjoy the WvW... getting the levels to be the most efficient in WvW would probably be the biggest downfall since it makes you do PvE to get anywhere quick, or prepare to be in WvW for some time before you reach it. |
