Interesting how you are twisting this.

I see an OP asking for opinions in his thread.

Someone replies with his opinion.

Someone else attacks that person's opinion.

Nothing to do with anti-fans here.

Nah, you're not getting what I'm saying...I'm not trying to take sides here.  Just stating a trend.

There is no problem with Faded saying he doesn't like the game...or stating his opinion.  You get into arguments though, when his opinion is phrased as an objective fact.  For example...

OK:

I don't like WvW, I feel like I'm just running with a zerg all the time.

Not OK:

WvW is just a massive zergfest.

See the difference?  And it goes both ways too...here is the other side of it.

OK:

It's cool that you don't like the game, I really like it, but not everyone will.

Not OK:

You don't like this game?  You are obviously playing it wrong.  That, or you are either a troll or just burned out on MMORPGs in general.

You know when I was in the military, I took courses on communication skills, it was part of our managment requirements as we went through our career. One of the things we learned was that human communication consists of 90 percent (I think that what it was) body language and hidden cues, and 10 percent is the actual words. So, writing out what you are saying sometimes is misunderstood. Creslin, I suggest you make stick figures with facial expressions and hand gestures in the margin for us to follow! ;)

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Hahah I've heard that as well.

I guess that's what smilies and different fonts are for lol.

I love GW2.

It is what I expected AFTER playing the beta.  Even before then I was prepared for DEs to be less than what I expected them to be.  The thing is, this playstyle is by far better than any other questing system in any MMO I played yet.

My only gripe with the DEs are the big boss events.  They are just too simple.  Sure you might die because of how powerful they can be, but they just seem so easy.

What I did notice tho, was they're a lot more difficult to do if you're not with a million people.  I believe when the population settles down they will be much more enjoyable.  Currently, it's usually a huge zerg and I think that ruins the experience.

For future Boss events, I believe ANet needs to make it so it requires some sort of strategy.

It's the sad state of the genre. The next big title has as many threads discussing issues with it's business model than issues with the game itself.

Honestly,

I had low expectations after SWTOR so GW2 exceeded them.  GW2 is a well done game with some flaws IMO (I'd rather have DAoC style rvr with different races/classes and I'd like to choose my 1-5 out of my like say 10 abilities).

GW2 socialist.

It definitely met my expectations.  I'm not sure how it would exceed them a whole lot.  So far it hasn't ONCE made me breakfast or walked on water.

It's what I expected ... a  game ... nothing more nothing less .. Now if it had turned into Angelina Jolie , that would have been unexpected :)

Yeah, I've tried walking on water in the game but I keep sinking.....So, can't disagree there.  :)

I bet the game box would float though....so that might be considered walking on water, maybe.  Sort of.  Ish.

You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

I'm enjoying it a lot as a passing fancy, but I know it's not going to be an MMO I play for years, unless they happen to start adding sandbox features to it.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Go to Metrica Province.

You can there, trust me.

Enjoying the hell out of the game.  Prior to release I was pretty aware of what to expect, but even still, there are so many cool little things in the game that when I see them or use them, I think that someone (probably several someones) really gave a shat for what they were putting together.  It is like a mint on a hotel pillow, or a note from your significant other in your lunch - it doesn't change the object-in-question but it sure makes it feel more special to me.

GW2 made me look at WoW again after almost 2 years. Gross, I know.

It's not that GW2 is bad. It just made me miss having a lot of buttons to push...shinies! And the trinity, since I played holy priest.

Dancing around in combat while your auto-attack destroys things gets a little old. Yes, yes, I use other skills, but the auto attack does the bulk of the work. It's an interesting spin on mmo combat, and I like some of the direction it's gone; like how important movement is. However, I think it will take more games with similar ideas to get it totally right.

Interesting.

I find I use more skills than I did in WoW last time I played. As an arcane (or Fire) mage my rotation was 4 skills max. Plus a couple of situational long CD skills. And shinies stopped being interesting to me once everyone had them, it had been ages in WoW since someone /w me "hey where did you get that (item piece)" and I think that's because... it didn't really matter anymore. While in GW2 I find myself making lists again of what Gear I want for what purpose, I clearly don't want to have the same outfit on when I'm exploring/farming than when I'm in WvW or dungeons! ;)

Edit: typos galore.

I think in most games, the rotation for dps is kinda weak. I liked the shadow priest rotation because it was unforgiving. I'm one of those people who likes watching the dps meter. If I screwed up the rotation on spriest, it hurt my numbers.

However, my main was h-priest, and I don't believe h-priests have a rotation. IMO, shitty priests have a rotation. At least, thats's how it used to be. I don't know anymore

On one hand, I like the idea of a game with a grueling rotation that means you have to be on your a game to get everything out of it (Old school Affliction lock, represent!)

But I long for a game where it's less about the dps numbers and more about "Did your player use their abilities at the best times/in the best ways to ensure not only the defeat of the enemy, but the survival of your entire group". GW2 comes closer to that tha any MMO I have played, ever.

I'm sick of the static "DPS sits there, steps out of fire, spams their rotation; Healins play whack a mole with health bars, tanks stand there and try to stay alive" mentality that MMOs have degenerated into. In all fairness, it's our fault as players. We distilled teh essence of the effective encounter down to where that was all that was needed to win; The developers just continue to make content that way to cater to what we've indicated we (as a collective)  seem to want.

The game both impressed me in some ways and cracked me up in others.  Im usually impossible to dissapoint because i am way too jaded and bitter to allow myself to get excited about games anymore.

Things that impressed me:

Size of the world, multiple starting zones, etc.

Fluidity/feel of combat.

Plethora of art assets, etc.

Things that arent even remotely as game changing as they tried to play off:

"dynamic content".  I'm sorry but this one in particular is a joke.  I mean its almost on the level of propaganda. Anybody who has played Rift will laugh at the idea that this is dynamic content.  Yes, its not *just* rifts like in Rift, but its basically the same crap you've seen in every MMO ever.  Escort quests, defend this guy from 8 waves of mobs, etc.  They happen in the same place, they never move.  There is no "branching out organically".  The closest thing to that is that some of them will have multiple steps.  I.e. You did an event that required you to kill 7 waves of centaurs.  Now its wanting you to kill 3 liuetenants, now you get to kill the big bad boss dude.  Problem is, its always the same order.  Its not like they described it where say after you kill 7 waves of centaurs, you find out they were hired by some bandit, so you have to go to a different area and track this bandit down.  Or next time you come through the centaurs were simply running from a massive undead horde, and after you kill the 7 waves of centaurs now you have to kill 8 waves of undead.

No, none of that happens.  Its the same scripted, the mobs come from exactly the same areas at exactly the same time intervals in exactly the same number per pack, etc.

Other things that are bad:

Economy is horrible, this is a result of crafting being horrible, all of which is a result of equipment being way way WAY WAY WAY WAY too common.  Sad part is as my roommate proved who picked up the game two days ago, who hates crafting btw.  You will outlevel your intended zone path if you don't get the XP from crafting.  He finished up the first human area in krytan by level 14.  Did every single heart, explored all POI's and Vistas.  Did many of the events 3 or more times.  Completed his daily acheivements every time.  Harvested every node he saw (i asked him to do this for me since i craft).  So i had to show him how to get to Lion's arch so he could make it over to the nord starting area.

Crafting:

Besides the high level issue of the economy.  The crafting system is terribad.  Its an EPIC money sink.  Just getting from 50 to 75 skill will cost you minimum 50s (which at level 15 or 16 is a metric crapton of money) OR 8-10 hours of mat farming.  The idea that you could even keep yourself in decent gear, much less your guild or buddies, is laughable.  Not happening.  The sad part is you discover that you can just buy all the crap you wanted to make from the AH for 1copper over vendor because of all the others thousands of schmucks who thought they would pick up crafting.

Oh its gets better,  Because there actually is pay 2 win in this game, and dont argue that there isn't, because buying gems with RL money and trading those said gems for in game money is THE DEFINITION of pay 2 win, low level crafting mats are ULTRA expensive.  Copper is selling for 6 times what Iron sells for.  You literally can go find a node of copper and get 3 ore from it, but to buy 1 ore of copper is as much as completing an entire level 10 event.  Jute cloth, same thing. 25-35copper PER cloth.  Why is that?  Because people are buying money.  I assure you they're not getting the money from in game normal processes.  Because you couldnt hope to make enough money to buy a stack of 100 jute cloth in an entire days worth of doing events and killing stuff. The worst part s that 100 jute cloth is barely enough to get you 15-20 points of skill if you're skill 50.

Anyways, there's plenty more i could go on about.  And once again, don't get me wrong, i am enjoying the game.  I just think they failed pretty hard at some core MMO concepts.

I leave you with this thought:

If its not broke, don't fix it...

"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."

- Friedrich Nietzsche

Besides the high level issue of the economy.  The crafting system is terribad.  Its an EPIC money sink.  Just getting from 50 to 75 skill will cost you minimum 50s (which at level 15 or 16 is a metric crapton of money) OR 8-10 hours of mat farming.  The idea that you could even keep yourself in decent gear, much less your guild or buddies, is laughable.  Not happening.  The sad part is you discover that you can just buy all the crap you wanted to make from the AH for 1copper over vendor because of all the others thousands of schmucks who thought they would pick up crafting.

that's not true at all if you are utilizing the discovery tab.. i even reached well over a 100 without spending anymore than maybe 10-20s max.. i'd take a look at some crafting guides and learn how to maximize XP through discovery.. also I never did any "mat farming" just grabbed mats along the way as I leveled

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

People that play GW2 with "leveling" in mind is playing it wrong, that's probably why there's a good amount of hate over it.

I and many other gamers out there play the same game for years, I've played Battlefield 1942, Day of Defeat, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty 1, 2 & 4, PlanetSide, SWG, City of Heroes (until issue 11), and some other games for years because of the pvp. I only lasted 4 months in WoW and 6 months in SWTOR (technically 2 months but I stayed because of my guild) because of the junky shoebox pvp that comes with a tier-based gear grind. So I see myself playing GW2 for years to come because of the world vs world pvp.

Honestly if your not using discovery to level up you profession, then you are going to be wasting a crap ton of mats and supplies. That is by far the easiest way and the most productive way to level it up. Basically:

1. Get as many levels as possible from just making bars or whatever, don't craft anything else.

2. Craft insignias/gems or whatever and use it on as many possibilities as you can.

3. Second you get 25 levels above the crafted item skill wise don't waste mats on it.

4. Prosper.

400 in 2 professions, most I bought was to go from 375-400. About it.
