The sPvP (aka quake with spells) is heavily slanted towards dps classes, classes with AOE heals are pointless. Now, before you pop on here and say "but my (insert support class here) owns in pvp" good for you, statistics say otherwise. I have seen very well played engineers (1) that did well, however, that is a rarity. the typcial make up for sPvP is: Theif x 3, Warrior x2 mesmer 1/2 elementalist 1, ranger 1, necro 1 (give or take). This is ridiculous. Support classes are next to useless. Yes, they hold points, however they have terrible offense, and what typically ends up happening is it's a 2 v1 scenario and the support class dies. They also don't hold points very well because of the lack of offense. They are good at buying maybe 20 seconds.. MAYBE. No, keep in mind this is just for PUGs. Things will be different in actual pvp, I'm sure. I will not be playing in that actual pvp.
Also, I quit swotor due to the constant knockdowns, knockbacks, stuns, ETC... sPvP is no different. Even with traits/utility skills that get you out of these things.. it does not matter.
However, support classes are excellent in WvWvW.. when you can get in them. I played for 2 hours the other day.. and no pop. Which leaves my support class (trying to support in PvP) nothing more than a shield popper...
In a comparison with other Bg type maps, I give gw2 a ranking of just above SWTOR. Every map is the same with different names for capture points.
also, some abilities need to be nerfed or the resource that they use needs to be adjust to prevent constant spamming (who's looking at you, heart seeker!) Currently playing Real Life.. http://i36.tinypic.com/2uyod3k.gif For all your stalking needs.. |

Is this the perspective among the top tier of sPvP players as well? I am curious because in E-sports the metagame can look very differently depending on how good the teams are.

If you can't beat a thief spamming heartseeker then I think overall class balance is the least of your concerns.

Originally posted by Random_mage DPS class play bigger role because sPVP is faster than World vs World. It's simple as that. Try to act like medic in Modern Warfare 3. You have no chance. Try to act like one in Battlefield 3 - people will love you. Scale of conflict is everything. But I don't support you in this. Support can make a difference. On the way in I pop up some glue to slow down enemies, they took quite a damage from our DPS before they clash with them on close combat. Banner warrior boosted our stats and he was able to fight. Me, guardian - I was able to make big mess very fast. How ? 1. I teleported to the enemy and burned them (skill) 2. Then I used hammer skill that create circle and I blocked 2 people. They staied with me for 5s. 3. In that 5s I put burning circle, created combo that set nerby enemies on fire and land a few hits. Before it was over they were damage, I was almost dead but in 5vs5 fight my 4 comrades took down 3 enemies while I kept busy 2 more and after short while it was 3vs5 for us. We nailed it and moved to another place. You see, every battlefield is a chaos. ALWAYS. Chaos IS TO BE EXPECTED. Try to play a paintball sometimes with your friends (in real life). Your first match, second and maybe third will be a chaos. You won't know what is happening. At some point you will gain calamity and you will be able to see bigger picture. You will bring order and fight chaos. And because enemy is in chaos - you will win. This is how we do it. This is how I was doing it in SWTOR. On our server (EU) I played only PVP from lvl 1 to 50 and beyond. Because we saw bigger picture and could take advantage of skill that give us 3s of something - we were quite good. And because of that - regular players ALWAYS were waving to us on the begining of the match and they were saing that if we are here - it will be win. And it was win most of the time. Trust me - chaos is to be expected. Make use of it. |

Also, support builds work fine. Here is one for Elementalist for example

Just because you are bad doesn't mean we are all bad |

Just sayin, I kill tons with engineer. Get the "turrets push back foes when they die" and go shield pistol. Get three turrets, preferably rifle, thumper especially, healing turret, the crate, and rocket turret. Then just troll people at points by pushing them off with your shield skill, turrets, and thumper turret skill, while firing on everyone. That will handle practically every melee, and dps fall easily to the range of the turrets, much less cap.

The bads will be bads comment leads to more of the same 3 warriors, 3 thieves, 1 ranger, and 1 random class, if you cant beat a class spamming a skill, you must be bad...
If 1 class has a skill that can be spammed to victory, then something needs to be adjusted. Again, if you join any sPvP, the team makes are the same. I am not so much complaing about the cc, more so the lack of the need for support, and the fact that it makes more sense to create a dps class (which is how I geared after trying support). Originally posted by Random_mage I find warriors and thieves are bad, but that is my play style and build. Just change your builds, be creative. Guardian with the shield spirit weapon (shield of the avenger). Then everything else is what you want. Guardian is a hilarious class. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/innovation |

I've been playing sPvP for awhile now, When I can stomach it and agree. It could easily be the worst PvP I have played in an mmo. It reminds me of some of the instgib builds in TSW. Except there are more builds that do the same thing. As far as the thief. You dodge he heartseekers to you and hits you dodge again. He does the same thing. Heartseeker is broken as an ability. It is ranged melee attack that puts the thief back in melee range. Plus it's spammable. Let me go through an encounter in the WvW dungeon. I pop signet of fire on a thief. My health starts dropping I dodge and the thief is on me instantly and I go down. Total time 3 seconds. This is the norm in sPvP except that it happened in the WvW dungeon. 22k to 0 in three seconds and I even tried dodging. |

I think that it really needs to be stressed how bad sPvP is now. Which I think is easily some of the worst in an mmo. You frequently end up in 3v1 and 2v1 matchups. It really is terrible. I try playing and run into one of the examples I just listed and quickly I've had enough and logout. I really don't know how anyone can dispute just how bad it is in it's current state. Rift and SWTOR, both recent releases are light years ahead of it. |

I'd have to say that Engineers are exceptionally annoying for me to fight 1 on 1. It is plausible that I'm terrible at PVP but meh.
