Yeah a lot of companies come over as doing that lol ( or not doing that as the case may be )

I played the beta test for Lotro RoR expansion .. and it was a buggy mess .. if they had released it when they had planned it still would have been a buggy mess.

But they delayed it to fix issues .. will it be bug free ? hell no .. but will always have more respect for companies who try their best first , rather than release it then try to patch it up to their best

This launch has been okay and some are going overboard about the problems that have been going on.

Having said that it is really dumb to bring up WoW considering how long it has been and other companies albeit few had really smooth launches. Hard to take anyone serious when they bring up launches from that long ago.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Yes, WoW had a bad launch back in 2004. Since then, there have been MANY games released. One would think that companies should have this whole smooth release thing down by now...

Still, it's not like having a bumpy launch is anything specific to GW2. Everyone should expect it from new MMORPGs.

I agree but there is a degree to these bumps in launch and so far LOTRO, RIft and TSW come on top for release with as  less bumps as possible.

This has happened multiple times in the past, and the most notable example is WoW's first month of launch.

I'd also like to point out that I am the most neutral person towards GW2 as it comes (check my post history). I've been around, and seen it all. This is NOTHING NEW, and you're not as special or an isolated little snow flake that you believe yourself to be.

Yes, you paid money, and you demand service for said money in return. However, keep in mind YOU chose to invest into a BUY TO PLAY product. This ultimately means you have ZERO complaints allowed with regard to customer service quality as it is EXPECTED to be lesser than a PayToPlay MMO.

It was YOUR choice, now sit there like adults and wait like everyone else.

/rant-off

You can start complaining if by October there are still rampant issues.

One major thing I don't agree with from the get go here is the fact you think just because the game is B2P it doesn't have stellar customer support as if P2P customer service of any major mmo is any better, that you think P2P has better customer service because of the sub fee, that's a joke and a huge myth.

I've worked Customer / Tech Support for years and even the most respected companies in the world have their share of issues and disgruntled customers that will take to the internet to say what they want or feel about said company.

It can be a Bank, Technology companiy or cell phone comapny, whichever you choose it is always the same, that doesn't mean the company has bad customer support.

a bit of info for those not aware if you do know feel free to skip this part.

CS works by service levels and targets, if the targets are not met and the reports say the CS is not doing it's job properly trust me that company will very quickly change procedures or contract a 3rd party CS company in order to reach better results and keep their customers satisfied.

Are you seriously comparing a 2004 to a 2012 launch? alright let's do it.

1) 11.000 accounts werent hacked in the first week of WoW's launch.

2) The game was more than playable on even low end computers (unlike gw2)

3) it was beta tested extensively (open betas in europe and korea) unlike gw2

4) people didn't reach max level in 2 days.

5) no gold spammers everywhere (hey, you wanted to compare 2004 to 2012 launches)

6) endgame actually existed

7) most importantly: WoW's population kept increasing for 4 years, while GW2 is on a steady decline as of last sunday (check xfire statistics)

WoW? You mean a 8 years old game?

Here I was thinking I read somewhere that GW2 was "evolution".

So compare it to SWTOR, Aion, and Rift then.  Rift had a good launch for sure, better than GW2.  But SWTOR and Aion both had worse launches (IMO) than GW2 because of the login queues.

So even with contempary comparisons...I don't see how GW2's launch is as terrible as a lot of folks here are making it out to be.

Blizzard had absolutely no way to effectively predict what happened to them in 2004.

When MMOs were measured in the hundreds of thousands, What would have been an optimistic top end that they could have forseeably expected?  Now multiply that times 10. WoW's launch issues had no way to be predicted and nothing like it had ever been seen before. This is not the case with GW2.

So now in 2012 after other companies have had successful launches, we have to go back to WoW and try to compare apples to oranges?

It's the sad state of the genre. The next big title has as many threads discussing issues with it's business model than issues with the game itself.

The people going overboard are only doing so to either troll, instigate, or reciprocate the gw2 fanboyism that runs rampant on some threads. Ignore them  :)

1.  No, but they sure made up for that once hackers realize the value in it.  WoW will always be the most hacked MMORPG (by % of users) and nothing will ever come remotely close.

2.  Except for the loot lag and rubber banding issues.  GW2's launch is better for this reason alone

3.  Yet it still had issues like number 2, beta testing doesnt solve everything

4.  Has nothing to do with quality of launch, but you know that and are just trolling anyway

5.  Ive gotten a grand total of one gold spam mail and have yet to see anything in a chat channel.  Even though it hadnt caught on yet, I still think the gold spam was worse in WoW than GW2 week one.

6.  Wow, one raid!  And the level 60 zone wasnt complete at launch (silithus).  GW2 has more to do at max level than WoW did.  But hey, WoW did have that one raid...

7.  I will bet that WoW had less hours logged its first wednesday than its first saturday too.

0-7, thanks for playing

It all comes down to perception I was in Aion and SW:TOR launches both on opening day and other than 2 hour queues in Aion (these lasted about  one week) and about 15 minute queues in SW:TOR (RP server FTW!) they both played well for me, Aion's being the better one because the Cryengine is supremely better than the Hero engine,  I could say that GW2 was worse though i'm only observing at this point and I did not see complaints in either of those two forums about login, product registration, email verification problem that basically stop many people from playing especially in the EU and being in the EU myself thats a big deal.

For TOR I started the launch build a week and a half after release (a xmas gift), AOC three weeks after, WAR two months after, EQ2 about 3 weeks (a gift from a friend) to put it simply that's the time to gauge a MMO launch IMO. As the problems that are there to stay are there, the community is settling down from the hectic nature of release, and the experience is closer to what it's meant to be.

It will probably be a couple weeks before I begin GW2, as for comparing it to TOR, the only real problems I saw in TOR were weird stuttering at the start of the Alderran BG ( during the speeder ride). A 10 minute queue here and there to get on during EST prime time (on The Fatman) lastly Graphical weirdness in cutscenes. Compared to those others I mentioned above TOR was off to a great start only a week and a half after launch.

I said before GW2 performed better (less graphical weirdness) during those two BWE's I tried, if that's the case GW2 will be slightly better.

Here's a new idea.

Let's judge Arena Net and GW2 on the merits on Arena Net and GW2 instead of Blizzard and WoW.  And for the record, I had a lot of fun playing through the launch issues. Even though I couldn't sell my stuff. Even though, I had to change servers a few times until all my freinds and I were on the same server, even though the guild I was in initially got deleted by ANET. I still logged in every day and played. I simpley enjoyed what was available for me.

It's the sad state of the genre. The next big title has as many threads discussing issues with it's business model than issues with the game itself.

Imagine a new cell phone launching in 2012 without a touchscreen, internet access, and a color LCD display.

Point being, we don't judge modern products by the same standards with which similar products were judged in the past.  WoW got away with it due to there being far less competition on the market, and due to Blizzard attracting an army of devoted fanboys and fans of the Warcraft RTS.  GW2's launch likely won't define its future success.  After all, they've got the army of fanboys already.
