I've bought gems to trade for cash because black lion page constantly being under maintenance meaning I can't sell anything and likeley going to have to buy more today if its still not working at my play times as I'm 25 silver short of the master skills book.

Have used gems for the bag slots and bank slots,  I'll likely only ever play one char so not arsed about the character slots also bought the krytan skin for my ranger as it looks awesome,   shame a frickin bug means I cant transmute it onto another item and 6 days later still no response to ticket.

What are you talking about?

bank upgrades are 600 gems each... which is about 2 gold depending on what the exchange prices are at the time.

for 35 gems at the moment its like 12 silvers

Hmm, what I'm looking at right now (Black Lion currency exchange)  looks like 24s = 1 gem. 35 gems for one back upgrade. Am I reading the exchange wrong?

When I eat chocolate chip pie it just doesn't feel like chocolate chip cookies. The texture, the consistency, it's just not the same and this is disappointing.

Um. I have about 3.8 gold right now, and it's enough to buy over a thousand gems. You're reading the graph completely wrong. The average, high, and low values are per 100 gems, not per 1.

OHhhhhhhh lol makes a big difference lmao.

I missed the GW2 econ class :p

edit - I not questioning you, but how would you know that? It doesn't say that, does it? If so where?

edit - I see I would get 11 gems for 4 silver atm.

Yes.

You purchase bank upgrades from your bank by double clicking on the lock icon. It's 600 gems. On the gold -> gems window type in 1 gold and you'll see how much gems you get. type in 2 gold and it should be around 600 right now.

That's wrong. I spent about 1g to get 800gems for a character slot.

I've been gathering up some Gems simply by turning in some of my earnings in the game. I might not be gaining them as far and point blank as those that pay for them with real cash.

But from my experience. Using cash shop items doesn't seem overly important and if you want something out the store you can turn in a few silver for some over a course of a few days and have a bunch in no time..

I'm currently saving up for the bank slot increase.. It's 600 Gems.. I currently have about 230.. Should have enough by the weekend if I really want to..

You can easily buy gems for gold and get anything in game, it isnt even that hard to get it. 1 silver gives about 3 gems and while you are 80 you will get in plenty of gold.

The cashshop is for noobs.

The conversion rate fluctuates..

If you really get nitpicky and start playing around with the silver and copper amounts you can maybe shave that 1g for 800 down to something like 94 silver and 89 copper (Just a random number but thats how it works)

That's why I say buy a few gems at a time.. You want to try and buy them for as cheap as possible..

ALSO note that the conversion rate of gems back to gold is far off from what you get for trading gold for gems..

So don't buy more Gems than you actually think you'll need at that time.. I don't know if Gems to Gold conversion will get better... Will take some time to see how the market looks in another week or so..

Well you get the idea.  It isn't required.... just there make what should already be easy or acessable, an option to those willing to pay a little bit extra.  Not required.... but sure most every character either via gold ingame or paying with real cash, will buy gems that are   appearently, completely optional.

How exactly do you fall behind in levels where the entire game pre-level 80 is the content and not the end game? How again does that effect gameplay when anyone higher level then you is downleveled to your zones level while you are there if they wish to help you or play with you?

Yeah. smh

I believe that price is per 100 gems. Im looking now on a new toon and 6s gets me about 20 gems. Also yeah youe looking ta the wrong thing. The Bank thing for 35 is just to access your bank from anywhere. The increased banks slots is done by double clicking the lock underneath your current lots when looking in your bank.

You don't have to do anything in the cash shop. You can earn gold to buy anything you want by purchasing gems with that gold. You don't need anything in the shop to level. I used a combo of exploration, DE's, gathering, and crafting to reach level 30 in two days and that was with interruptions due to lag and issues during headstart. That should give you a better idea. Also, someone leveled to level 80 in 4 days during headstart just by crafting alone. He literally didn't leave the main city. (he had the entire guild giving him mats but that's beside the point) the point is you don't need anything in the store.

Of course unless you want play ever single class.

I just don't have time for that personally and I'm not able to work.

There is a currency exchange where you can use in game gold to buy GEMS from other players. The entire set up is designed to combat gold selling.

Unless you can play a lot you're already too late. Gem prices will increase all the time as more and more gold flows into the player's accounts.

On the other hand, when the gem prices get high enough, it will be feasible to buy gold with gems instead, which in effect makes your leveling much easier (can buy materials and gear from AH).

That is likely, but it depends on how many rich noobs that buy gems and exchange it for gold.

Crafting gear is not so hard and actually good so I dont really see any reason to buy gear from the AH unless you arent member of a guild. All large and most small guilds will craft you any item you need just for the mats.

We are just a handful players in mine but by everyone supporting specific crafters will mats leveling a crafter is really fast, they just need to farm a little karma to get the rare recepies.

For none guilders are things a lot harder and the auction house is a more feasable option.

Way to generalise,   Not that people who have far more disposable income than time would use it or anything.    I'm sure gems won't stay anywhere near as cheap as they presently are as more and more reach the higher levels and more cash is in the economy.

I'll even go as far as say there only as cheap now as many of us because of A:Arenanets atrocious coding cannot actually sell items even when the Trading Co is actually up or B: Conspiracy Theory Arenanet are dleiberatly making things unsellable so people have to buy gems hiding it behind bugs,   anywhoo we are stuck buying gems to convert to cash for skill books, armor, weaps, crafting mats etc.

I'm left with 2 options as I cant sell mats I don't need etc,  do I go waste 4 hours of my time harvesting the mats I need when 4hrs is a very large chunk of my gaming time or do I just buy some gems convert them to cash and buy them.

Paying players,   keeping free 2 play scum gaming since 1998

Not requried.  BUT make no mistake GW2 is THE BIGGEST CASH SHOP EVER IN AN MMO!!!! Meaning you can buy to win.  Simply as you can swap gems bought for £££''s for gold you out bid buy anything in the Auction House.

I may try this game at some point in the near future. I was worried it was going to be a cash shop fest, but now i'm curious again.

Wondering about other things now - I hope i don't get burned out on the gameplay after 2 seconds like most EQ/WoW clones. I know most of you think of GW2 as something revolutionary, but it's evolutionary at best according to the videos and streams i'm seeing, only details really differentiate it from WoW.

That said, i love exploring and just wandering around. I wonder how open the zones are, and if the GW1 style invisible walls are still everywhere.

Playing: EVE
Played (more than 1 month): WoW, Tera, GW2, L2, WAR, AoC, DnL, GW, LotRO, EQ2, TOR, CoH, STO, TSW
Tried (trial, up to 1 month): EQ, UO, AO, EnB, TCoS, Fury, Ryzom, EU, DDO, TR, RF, CO, Aion, VG

GW2 and WOW are both themeparks

GW2 is much more an exploring mmo than WOW ever was

That's interesting. What do you want to win? The PvE part is all about cooperation, exploring and personal story. In sPvP you are lvl 80 instantly and get all lvl 80 gear for free. WvW? I don't know, mabey you can buy best possible gear and ton of siege weapons, or the "commander" thing to feel special, but it's server vs server vs server, 100v100v100 people, so it really won't be like you are winning, but rather everybody are winning/losing together.
