The disclaimer is only on Suzies post so if you link to the article from facebook or wherever you come straight to the article.

Majorbiggs the thing is though we can see its intended tongue in cheek but in this age theres many who won't due to the more serious tone of the article as I mention earlier it written with a little more sarcasm as Pokkets fitness article was goes a long way.

Yes, a sick 'disclaimer' guys.  Not only is it dark grey against a blue blackground on a header that most people won't notice, it's also not a disclaimer as rhetoric advertising.

Actually I'm more interested in learning about Shakespeare, Plato and Philosophy 101 than the games on the list. Too bad I study Business & IT... Ah well, skipping class it is then ^^

A player that needs to skip class to play a game is probably one of those immature teenage trolls in game that annoys the hell everybody :P

What mundane drivel!

You should entice younglins to go to school, not to skip it.

Four important things in Life:

1.Health(self explaining)
2.Significant Others(family,love partners...)
3.Personal Stability(the ability to resist temptations)
4.Education(so you can actually DO something!)

Now in which of these four categories do MMOs fall into? If neither, then they are one of those less significant things you do for fun. What's their name again? Oh yes-games(one should play it when one CAN, not on expense of other more important things...)!

And students should be forced to participate in various tests, including basic survival and general intellectually challenging games, such as mazes. If they should fail, they should immediately be put down - like dogs.

Yes, this sounds like the perfect way to rule people. Afterall, the government is not there to serve us, we're there to serve the government.

No not at all but it makes sense to protect your future generations even if that means stepping in at a level like that.  Look at how much youth unemployment has risen in most EU countries and the US in the last decade whilst middle age and elder has actually dropped in a lot of cases.

Hey lets just encourage them to forsake education for video games though.  Should we have never introduced video and game ratings and allowed kids just to watch what they wanted etc theres many times our govt's step in to do what parents should be doing but aren't I see what Korea does in respect of some games as no different.    Society is getting stupid and thats not just a generalisation it really is,  exams are getting easier, education is getting worse but hey lets just encourage them to play games instead and spend their life on minimum wage.

I'm not saying every person who skips a class for games is going to end up that way but many do and what do they do when they are unemployable simply escape to fantasy by playing more games costing the rest of society a fortune in benefits.

The amount of "hardcore" mmo players that are simply living on benefits is obscene and Garrett's article is only serving to fuel the next generation of them.

I know a fair few guys who were bright people get caught up in the whole Ultima Online business,  dropping out of Uni to play it,  getting in £1000s of £ of debt with ISP's as back then the UK only really had bill per minute.   Some are still recovering from that debt now but guess what they do,  Yes sit and play MMO's instead of getting an underpaid job for how inteligent they are and inteligence wasted due to pissing the education years away on gaming.

Ask yourself this,   a kid is skipping class to smoke weed,  drink alcohol etc Would you actively encourage him to do or would you try to disuade him,   would you expect to see Jean Claude Van Damme come on an ad presenting the best 5 beers/spirits to drink whilst skipping class ?     This is no different.

2003-2004 I was one of those people so I do bleat on a little like a reformed alcoholic does,   I started skipping work to play SWG "One day wont hurt" 1 day turns to 2 2 turns to 3 before you know it your sacked.     That moment was a real wake up call to me,  I cut my hours right down got a new job and have been lucky to work my way to a CM position on a MMORPG and NEVER would I enourage my players irrespective of profit to the company to play over education in fact I have banned a few players for exam lead up at a parents request.   Each and every player has thanked me for it when exam results come in and 1 now works with me based on those results.

I don't know how much a CM gets paid, but judging by the way you talk, you seem to be fairly successful in life.  After all, that's the only way you could lend an ounce of validity to what you're spouting.

Do you think that the millenial generation invented skipping classes?  When some of our parents recalled their college days, they had plenty of wild stories to tell that makes skipping a day or two of class seem relatively tame, yet many of them lead successful adult lives.  This is skipping class; not dropping out of class.  No, skipping a few days of class to play a video game is not going to lead to the ruination of society.

The reason why is that they were actually given room to breath and room to mature as adults.  Millenials even with a college education are still stuck in dead-end, low-paying jobs because  of the global economy, and at least in the US, they face massive amounts of debt that simply didn't exist 10-20 years ago. They're forced to compete with 30-40 year old professionals for entry level positions which nearly takes them out of the white-collar labor market entirely.  Coming out of college, they're expected to have at least 2-3 years experience in their chosen profession and are expected to exhibit the same level of professionalism in the workplace as someone who has been in the working world for the past 10 years.  Training budgets have been slashed in the face of the poor economy, and companies are looking to hire workers who are performing the same jobs for different companies in order for them to hit the ground running with minimal required training.  Even if college graduates do manage to land professional jobs, many of them pay far less than the cushy 40,000 a year they were promised when they were growing up.  Try paying off 30,000 of debt making 28,000 a year.

Quite the opposite really,   CM whilst fun and a job I love and wouldnt change for the world was not my vocation of choice nor pays anywhere near my vocation of choice of which there plenty of positions for in the UK presently whilst many other industries are dieing.   I grew up wanting to be an engineer,  good grades at school then A levels then into uni and then the class skipping started my vice back then was beer and women rather than games though.  After so many skips dropping out was the next step and then into a bunch of ok paid customer service jobs.    I was just very lucky in that I was at a company specialising in internet technologies just as the internet began to boom.

From there it was being chosen to be a player representative on a MMO which led to a job offer and the rest is history as they say.   Gaming CM isn't a great paying job by any stretch of the imagination with 25% more wage being available in the non gaming sectors or in social gaming which just isnt my thing.   I'm content with life,  I'm a hell of a lot more sensible than I was as that 19 year old kid who put beer and women ahead of studies given my time to do over again and despit how utterly awesome a time in my life it was :) I would have sorted my priorities out though got my degree and went into engineering.

I don't disagree on most your points the UK economy isn't much different except for our graduates are pretty much guaranteed jobs IF they want them,  many for all the wrong reasons be it beer/women/mmorpg never get to graduation or if they do opt to go into lower paid jobs to avoid hitting the threshold for having to pay back student loans even though the payments are so minimal that IMO its not worth doing.      As I say I sound like a reformed alcoholic or a converted preacher :)  If your words can stop 1 person making the same mistakes you did though then typing a few sentences is worth it IMO.

"Is the Pokemon generation off to college yet?"

They are in their early 30s now I believe.  Long past school, or perhaps in their second tour of duty in school.

Maybe teachers should make students play WoW and incorporate quests that teach the class material.

It could be a special server and the quests are written by the teachers while trying to have an overall story that fits WoW as well.

Then the good thing for the summer players can transfer their character to a regular server.

Problem solved. Your welcome.
