They aren't using the tired old tiered pve progression model of eq/wow, so you don't have to panic grind this stuff to stay "on the curve" or you will have trouble grouping for future content.

But he has to do it, cause he wants the sets, is that really hard to understand? No one is questioning whether it is optional or not, everything is optional, playing the game is optional. What he is complaining about is that in order to achieve something he wants he has to go through an immense and uninteresting repeat what you have been doing for the last 59h in order to get something.

He wants to achieve getting that gear and in order to do it, there is no interesting mechanic there is a grind of rinse and repeat dungeons, now I am all for having a challenge to achieve stuff and even different degrees of difficulty, but if getting something I want requires me to play the same instance over and over again then it is no different than when I was raiding in WoW and wanted better gear, the only difference being that I actually got stronger with the gear I got, but the premise is all the same, look at my diagram.

WANT ITEM > GRIND DUNGEON > LOOK KICKASS AND HAPPY( GW2 +  WoW ) + ( EASIER NEXT TIER OF DUNGEONS( WoW ) )

If you study it carefully you will see that in both scenarios I want an item, and I have to grind before it branches off into, making it easier to do other instances or just being cosmetic, we are not discussing step 3, we are only worried about step 2 the grind.

Last time I remember, ArenaNet said you would get a reward each run to prevent this kind of grind.

Words cannot describe how dissappointed I am, waited 4 years for it and again it's just another grind if I want to build unique characters.

Anyone else feels the same?

Well if you are 80 already means only one thing you didn't enjoy what GW2 has to offer at all.

You make the game a grinder cause to me the game is the best mmorpg there is or has been.

Learn to play to have fun and not change your gameplay to work.

Already gave info out about this but lets do some math here and see if it's really THAT grindy.

Level 80 dungeon = 6 paths in explorable mode

Need 44 runs for a full exotic gear

6 paths x 7 runs per path  = 42

Choose which out of the 6 you wanna run again for the last 2 runs and you got your 44

So in overall you run:

4 different paths 7 times and 2 different paths 8 times out of the 6 paths to achieve the 44 runs.

Not much in my opinion if you consider that in other games you have to run like 100+ of times the same 1 path over and over in the hope to even get a piece of a gear while in GW2 you are assured that you will be able to get what you are running the dungeon for.

Grind means content for me. Grind means goals to achieve. It's a reason to log in.

Grind can be a dirty word. But usually to those that are playing the wrong genre.

The other difference with wow. Those who choose to grind, can't go around 1 shotting those that don't, forcing them to grind (or pack in). The other difference to wow is you won't get a disproportionately large portion of dev time going into new content that is for the grinders only (e.g. whiny raiders come first)

can you look at the trading post? I can, lvl 80 greatsword max stats is 3 gold and 30 silver

OMFG SO MUCH GRIND

Armor is even cheaper.

Whole set of armor+2 sets of weapons 16-19g

Takes you 4 days to get at lvl 80 TOPS and if you have max armormisth its even cheaper and takes 5 hours to get by gathering stuff.

People are really making mountains out of moehills here.

At lvl 52 i got 8g, pretty sure by the time i get to 80 i will have more than enough.

The trick is to actually play the game. Crazy, i know.

Ok, but you don't have to pay for your time in GW2 once you buy it. You can actually enjoy the ride getting that gear.

You are disappointed because you want FAST. In WoW you paid for your time every month so it is actually ok to be mad to have to grind in that game, but in GW2?

really?

LOL @ you

You don't really need them. If you WANT to grind them than go at it. Your choice, not forced at all.

people complain this game has no grind.. now people complain it has a grind:P  thing is the grind was always known they had a huge grind in GW1 for this sort of stuff.. you need something for people to strive for and keep playing.. the big difference between the grind here is the equipment isn't necesary to be competative in world vs world or be able to complete PVE content. It's something you need to work for and earn but is not necessary to enjoy the rest of the games content.. :)

What?? who whined that GW2 had no grind? Everyone i've talked to don't want grind! and now they have added grind when they promised to not have grind. Completing AC on Story Mode is hard, especially when people leave everytime you do it and then you can't add more members and have to restart the dungeon. 1 run = 1 piece of gear. YES PLEASE.

I'm not trying to be rude, but you don't seem to know as much about the game as you think you do. The armor you get as a reward for AC story mode is not the dungeon armor, it's generic armour that you get for every story mode in any dungeon. Check the second tab on the armor vendors in Lions Arch, you'll know what I mean. Repeating story mode doesn't get you another piece of the 'generic' armor either.

But, what I'm saying actually makes the situation worse for you and backs up what you are saying. Story mode doesn't even get you the dungeon armour. Tokens from explorable mode do, and explorable mode is much much harder than story mode. Plus, you get less than 1 piece of armor per explorable mode run.

BUT, Anet didn't promise no grind.. they promised no grind for STATS. They delivered what they promised. The grind is for skins.

+1, like this.  That's why I'm partial to this game--I like to solo and am too lazy to group for dungeons.

Someone else wants to do dungeon runs all day?  Be my guest--your toon may look better than mine, but it's not any stronger.

Amen Bro! I'd really have to love a look to grind for it. No thank you most of the time.

There's no real advantage to that type of grinding when you have the best armor stats already but some here are debating the issue as if you're grinding for something better.

Perhaps we need a new term for Guild Wars grinding. How's "Vanity Grind" sound?

Anyone that HAS to get every dungeon set should seriously look into why they have to have them.  It's not a healthy way to live and this game probably isn't a good idea for them.

Just pick your favorite set and go for it.  If you still enjoy the game pick another set if that's your goal.  But also realize that it's not a big deal if you never get a single set.

Nope, I'm only level 18, been playing every day since launch, though mostly sPVP.

Maybe I will when I get to level 80, but I'm guessing I'll just take it slow and easy and enjoy the journey.  This is the first game that has let me do that in an online enviroment in a long time.

This is exactly how I'm playing the game. I never understand what the rush is to get to max level. I've been playing every day since the game launched, 2-3 hrs each day, and I just hit level 25 today. I'm taking my time to explore the world Anet has created, do some crafting here and there and WvW when the que pops.

No. It's a grind for things you don't need. You can get golds and epics outside of the dungeons through events (I got an epic focus from killing Tequatl) and crafting. Those dungeon items are for people that enjoy that kind of thing. If that's not you, then it's not for you, ignore it. You can't say you want to participate in all of the content of the game then get upset when some of the content of the game isn't what you wanted, either make the concession to try it anyway or pass up on it. Like I did :D I have no intention of bothering with that gear myself. It's pretty, but frankly so are the Tier 1-3 cultural armors, and those can be bought with gold.
