To all the ppl who are commenting bs atm. Please look into the gear tiers in GW2 and which armour type has max base stats (hint: it is not the yellow rare). The exotics have max base stats. Now, look closely at the possible ways to obtain a lvl80 exotic set. (again this is max base stats, so disregard vanity discussion for a moment). Check the karma prices, the dungeon token prices, the gold prices for these exotic sets. If you think that, like in GW1, you can obtain a max stat armour set by just playing the game in the intended way (according to devs) then you are wrong. Again rare gear (yellow) does not have the max stats. Also crafting exotic isnt that straightforwards. Look into that before commenting pls. GW2 definately introduced a serious stat based gear grind. To make a comparison with GW1, in GW2 the 15k armoursets DO have better base stats. |

Originally posted by someforumguy I understand what you are saying but the point stands that no content is locked away on basis of your gear stats. Yes there is gear disparity at high levels but this gear disparity won't prevent you from doing dungeons. |

It seems ironic that someone who is lvl 80 would be crying about the time involved to get prestige armor.
How to post links. Check it Archeage |

I am not 80 and have not personally experienced the grind issues spoken about but after reading this thread and another thread at guru

im inclined to agree with the Op EQNext press http://EQ3Wire.com EQ2: Freeport server |

I enjoy rift its just the game i prefer right now, but im not gonna lie and hide behind things IT has end game grind, behind the nice graphics, random events, invasions ect. The JOURNEY everyone keeps mentioning IS going to END at some point. Then guess what just like in rift , wow, ect There IS going to be a grind at end game because content has to end until more is developed. Then we get into pvp , every game has pvp (except diablo 3) ;) Its also a grind just in a different way. Now your grinding for pvp gear instead of pve gear. Instead of running dungeons for gear your running pvp for gear there both maps just one is open one is a dungeon. Maybe gw2's pvp is different it is a pvp based game after all but eventually it WILL get boring. Then you can re roll like in every other game or guess what ? Do what the op said lol.
You can take your time smell the roses , craft, do De's mentor same as rift go help guildies , run lower lvl dungeons etc. But in the end after all is said and done at lvl cap and end game your last option to keep going foward is to GRIND. Enjoy your journey and hold back as much as you want but sooner or later you WILL hit end game. Whats left ? unless you do the things ive mentioned before..that will get boring sooner or later like any mmo is What the op has stated. Maybe im wrong , maybe im right but lets just face the truth here no game is going to have unlimited content so at some point you are done until the devs give you more to do .Or you will Grind. Lets quit kidding oursleves here every journey ends when will your's? All coments are an opinion of mine and i shall have no responsibility for and including actions, words or reactions posted by any mmorpg member. This includes but is not limited to thought's or comments brain trauma , loss of appetite, swelling of the brain, emotional withdrawl or heart attack. Amen |

Not sure if this has been said before, but almost every MMO released has used the strategy of releasing the leving game 1st then ramping up "endgame" later. Some games have had less of a plan in place (SWTOR, TSW) and others have done extremely wel to keep "endgame alive" (Rift, WoW) but in the latter 2 cases, they didn't have much in place for level cap at release either.
I have been messing around with a few different classes, I've finally settled on one. And leveling to experience the game as intended, it's not grindy. It's rather enjoyable and there is something to be said for the journey in this game. There is a lot more emphaisis placed on getting there than being there.
Those of you who are at 80 and complain there is nothing to do, Idunno, go back and start doing all that content you whizzed by.
I can't imagine how anyone has burned through all the content at this point and is in the grind pahse with nothing else to do. As far as what to say when you have finally completed all there is and you have nothing to do but grind.....That's where this game has it's advantage. You put it down. You come back when they release new content. If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

Originally posted by lifeordinary I never claimed that. But Arenanet claimed grind for vanity, not stats. http://www.arena.net/blog/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success "Fun impacts loot collection. The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.." |

Originally posted by lifeordinary from that perspective i agree with you dungeons are all possible with existing gear; dungeons are NOT tier based for gear
but for whatever reasons, i had thought GW2 was going to be similar to GW1 for customizing your character however you want for stats -- and the only grind would be for cosmetics
im still very pleased with GW2 EQNext press http://EQ3Wire.com EQ2: Freeport server |

Originally posted by someforumguy I know that ;). I was talking in terms of 'horizontal progression'. I guess we understand that term in different ways. For me teir based stat gear is directly related to tier based dungeons. And that is where majority of population hit the wall in terms of progression. |

Originally posted by Nadia I had the same impression as you, untill I hit 35 and went to buy cultural armour tier 1(which is rare quality). I am not a fast lvler and like to complete maps. I also like to repeat events etc and on occasion farm mobs to keep my recipe discovery going in my crafting. But I couldn't afford the whole set. And now after wasting about 10k karma on a lvl40 weapon (which I feel I should have saved for lvl80 gear), I feel kind of worried that at lvl80 I have nowhere near the amount of gold/karma/rare resources required to get max stat gear. The lvling is so fast with whatever you do. You can't farm karma without getting a lot of xp in PVE. Farm is maybe even the wrong word because I love participating in events. |

We told you that. The difference between GW and a game like WoW is that you don't have to do it to keep up with everyone else in terms of power. And you can get a unique look by custom dying crafted armor.

It is possible that it is overtuned. GW1 currently isn't the same games as prophecies was at release - getting the money and materials for max armor at droks wasn't as easy as people making it out (sup rune of absorptions was 100k and such). On the other hand most of GW1 content was after level cap (especially after factions) while most of the GW2 content is before level cap. Additonally we are talking about players that reached the level cap in less than a week, so they haven't been doing that many dungeons and/or crafting/gathering materials (both from nodes and mobs). Currently playing: GW2 |

Sounds like there's stuff to keep me occupied @ 80, no problem with that, in theory at least :)

I'm sure to get a set of every type of anything will be a grind but luckily, gameplay does not require you to do so.
Also... to "merely" travel to every place in gw2 will take a long time! Damn I knew gw2 was going to be another grind fest! I'm going back to <insert game here> !

What's wrong with having a grind in a game when we don't pay subscription fees? What's the rush? Why do you need more rewards for less time invested in something that isn't costing you extra to keep playing? I thought complaints about grindy MMORPGs mostly stemmed from the fact that it felt like just a money-grab to force a player in to a cycle of unnecessary timesinks to keep us paying subscription fees for years. That doesn't apply to GW2 as a B2P game.
At least for me personally, I hope there are a few things that will provide an endless amount of character progression in case I ever get that far because it just means more value from a one-time purchase if it keeps me entertained and progressing in some way. Lots of games outside of MMOs do this with great success such as all the 'new game+' features or endless replay value in some ARPGs, SRPGs, SPRPGs, etc.
I guess I'm just missing the point of detest towards grindy style content outside of subscription-based MMOs. So many B2P games out there have it and I don't hear complaints about a grind. It's a welcome element in any RPG I play if it's placed well enough at the end of the game to keep me going if I really want to, or I just interpret reaching the end of level 80 story content to be the end of the game until an expansion or patched content is added. |
