lets go back a few months into prebeta threads.

I remember people saying there is no grind.

lots of the arguments I am reading in this thread, defending the grind, could also apply to the defense of the idea of having Raid Dungeons in the game, like many suggested.

the argument against Raid Dungeons has been the grind, yet it seem to be the defense here...

maybe that should get its own thread. sorry OP.

You don't need to grind for bis items.

You can grind for the look you wish.

One just needs to look at GW1 to understand the concept.

Cooperative (semi cooperative)board games you should check: Pandemic, Sentinels of the Multiverse, Eldritch Horror, Descent 2.0,Level 7 Omega Protocol, Last Night on Earth

Can you also get those looks through sPvP?

There is only like 1 set I want, so it should be ok for me personally. Though the cost is indeed very high.

What I would have liked to see, is the tokens for explorable modes being shared (with more difficult instances possibly giving more): right now I'd have to do 1 dungeon tons of times, I would prefer to spread my time between different explorable modes.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

EDIT : I've looked into max lvl gear in GW2 and I agree with the OP.

In GW1 you had what they called horizontal progression. You could buy fairly easy max stat gear. When arriving in Droknar's Forge, most players by then had enough money and resources to buy a standard max stat set. But if you wanted to have cool looking gear, you had to grind for it. So the grind was optional and not required to play effectively.

In GW2 this is not the case, even though Arenanet promised it. The karma prices for the cultural gear are ridiculously high. If ppl who have 70% map completion (not many have this at lvl80) mention that they don't have nearly enough karma, then this is certainly not 'standard gear' . The order's armoursets are not even close to max stats. The exotics have a lot higher stats then greens. So there is definately a serious gear grind at lvl80 for max stats. The token prices for dungeons sets are also crazy high.

I am severly disappointed at this.

Last time I remember, ArenaNet said you would get a reward each run to prevent this kind of grind.

Words cannot describe how dissappointed I am, waited 4 years for it and again it's just another grind if I want to build unique characters.

Anyone else feels the same?

Another "Anyone feel the same as me thread"..

Do you really expect the gear to just fall in your lap when the game just released? The better looking gear will always take TIME to get. Its not like you need the gear right away.  It was the same way in GW1 with Obsidian Armor. You wanted to have that nice looking armor you had to put in time to get it.  If they just handed out the excotic armor and weapons the forums would be flooded with how everything is to easy to get. ArenaNet just cant win it seems lol.

It is not just the looks. The exotics don't only have the better looks, but also the best stats. Just look at what you need for any exotic stats set. Exotic has higher stats then rare (yellow) gear. Armour sets from the orders have a lot lower stats. I just looked this up and was surprised by this. There is no relatively cheap crappy looking max stat armourset for max lvl (like in GW1).

I'm not sure if the sPvP skins are the same or different from PvE skins.

But I don't think you can use PvE skins in sPvP and vice-versa. (Might be wrong).

Still doesnt mean the gear should just be handed out like candy from a piniata. Every mmorpg has time sinks. Thats all it is. He obviously had the time to get to 80 right after launch so he should be able to put in the time to get the gear he wants.

Arenanet promised that the gear grind would be for looks, not stats.

And if you happen to believe that you will be able to purchase exotic from a karma vendor at lvl80 even if you completed the 100% of the map, then there is a nasty surprise waiting for you. Dungeons, karmavendors, cultural armor. The prices for max stat armour are way higher then 99% of the players will have when they reach lvl80.

Exotic is where the max stat cap is at. There are another two levels above it, which are purely about looks (legendary and another one). If you haven't checked the exact prices and looked into what sets actually give max stats and looked into what Arenanet actually promised, then shut up because you have no clue what the OP is talking about.

Atm, exotic gear (capped base stats) is a serious grind. And Arenanet promised no gear grind for stats. Its in their bloody design manifesto. Something must have changed or the prices are some bug or anything.

Stop playing MMO's if you don't like it. That is just how the genre is. Some games more than others. Go find something else productive to do in the game or in real life for that matter. Obviously a lot of you never played EQ1 or Lineage or other games. You have to work towards things in an MMO. People shouldn't just get max level and be handed everything I am sorry but that is just stupid. You want something put the time in. If not then don't. MMO's are a time sink investment period. Suck it up and play the game or quit MMO's altogether end of story.

I hear the same from my guidmates level 80, the game at endgame is a huge grind. But the problem is not that, just the fact that everyone here, was talking about ¨GW2 have no grind¨, ¨No gear with stats¨, no more dungeons over and over to get some gear, thats over with gw2. And then we have the real world, where we have the same things than any other MMO before, The grind is still there and is a huge grindfest, Sadly when MoP come, GW2 will lose really a lot of people, and i hate WoW with all my heart, but people was looking something new and innovative in GW2, is nothing like that, so at the end it will be all about Spvp, like it was in GW1.

You have been neglecting it!!

According to my colleguae that wanted a specific set it took him 700+ hours and another 700+ hours for a rare mount because in wow the pieces dice roll for everyone that want's them and rolls for them so you can find it but it doesn't mean you will also get it.

Honestly the game is full of great skins and gears as also skins are obtainable in many various ways:

- pve

- spvp

- dungeons

- crafting and more.

Of course if you want a particular one from the dungeon you will have to work for it, for that you are making gold so you can buy other ones, many items you can sell or even grab the skins from and add them to your current ones as also upgrade stones, sigils and other.

The main thing is that you don't really need to do all this and the fact that they said that "we added content for casual players in the game so they wont feel as being left behind but also items and gameplay for hardcore players that like working their way towards an item, a title or other things".

I'm not saying that as a casual player one shouldn't have the chance to get such items but to be honest, I wonder how the op could get to level 80 in like less than a week without grinding himself up to there and that with 3 different characters, only to claim that he has barely any time to play (2 to 3 hours per day?).

Why do you need EVERY dungeon set?

Seriously, this isn't Barbie.  I don't get it.  I may not even bother with dungeons and won't feel like I'm missing out.

There's no grind, if you don't have to (power plateau) and do not enjoy it. It's definately not a gear-treadmill, and that's the most important thing. If you want fancy looks, you need to invest more time.  That's what GW is all about.

Dungeons is the hardest thing in the game so I plan to run them all.

However I think one dungeon gear is enough, or possibly 2.

You obviously never played GW1, friend and I must've spent weeks farming mats for Obsidian Armour just because of the Prestige it brought when there were cheaper armour sets that could bought with far less effort. So too me 100's of hours farming a set of dungeon armour isn't really a big deal deal.

You can craft a very nice set of armour with armour professions that would require little farming. So as Anet said its all about personality and how you want to look. Personally, I wanna look effing awesome even  if it does take hundred of hours!

Well because some of us love doing everything ina MMO? what ahs this got anything to do with being 'barbie'?

If whatever OP has said is true, i would say 'great' because it puts an end to 'lack of endgame' speculations. I don't mind grind what i mind is grind for' 'gear' in order to get next tier of content..get more 'gear' ..rinse and repeat.

In GW2 i would spent 100 of hours doing dungeons because i know that i won't be barred from doing dungeons because my gear isn't upto the mark.

I think it is important that  Guild Wars focus on the average player base. If you cant beat the game in a couple of weeks what a shame, but the game is designed for the general populace not odd balls.

Yeah you waited 4 years to blast your way through all the levels in less than a week.  I'm sitting here on day 3 and the character I'm using right now is only level 8.  Granted I've made another 6 characters and deleted a few along the way, but none of them have gotten over 14.  I don't know what everyone is doing to level so quickly, but it seems like people are wasting their money if they're racing to the finish and ultimately getting closer to getting burnt out on the game so soon.

Good morning,

Question for you. I want to see how you think the end game or this particular mechanic should play out. The reason why I ask is out of curiosity. Wouldn't you want that bit of a grind to ensure you have something to do? I'm not sure and personally I wouldn't want it to be to easy. I think it's time based you know. They don't expect you to do them constantly but over time get the gear you want.

So I can see how you are dissapointed when thinking in your present state but I don't think your looking at it in the perspective that you should. I could be wrong so that's why I'm asking what would you like them to change and how.

Lastly, I heard the game still has that chance to drop equipment from kills, so tokens serve merely as some supplemental guaranteed drop mechanic.

Ah I was asking the OP this question. Thank you for clearing this up. Personally I want all the sets I can get as well and I don't mind taking the time to do so. I have to get to 80 of course...since I have this week off. I'm going to try my very best to get to at least 70 by next sunday.  There should be some kind of effort put in. Otherwise what's the point. I don't mind that its cosmetic...or if the stats are only marginal. However I do want to look nice when I get to that level. Figure I'll get all the dye packs as well.

Question on dye packs. Since I'm only  leveling my ranger atm..if I unlock a dye pack does it translate to any alts as well or do I have to unlock them on my alt also. Or do they dye packs work in a different way?
