You can't generalize something that is a personal threshold. Some people might consider the game tedious and boring in 5 minutes others 5 days yet even more 5 months and some never get bored of it.

Yeah I laugh at how some people are acting like this has never happened in any game before.  It reminds me of my best friend who logged thousands of hours into GW1 and I could barely stand logging in dozens.  Everybody's different, but these threads are all the same.

Seriously you are overreacting. I'm lvl 42 and i'm having a blast!! The only thing that bugs me is the TP :(

Lol, you have exactly the same Kill X and Collect X on gw2, what are you talking about?. But even when people dont want to admit it and they are just ignoring the problem, GW2 is repetitive, im almost 40 too, and i found that the events are pretty much the same, u are allways doing the same ¨quest¨ with different mobs or zones but is allways the same thing that you did before, literally, and it happen the same thing with the storyline, i mean u clean or defend  a town from Centaurs, then Undead, then Charrs, and repeat with the next type of NPC on the list.  At some point the game get into a mindless grind, like any other MMO before, the secret is about play the game for what it is,  a casual MMO.

Another secret is to appreciate its presentation. You may still be killing and gathering stuff in this game, but this time, refusing to do those tasks asked of you have consequences. It affects your access to waypoints and vendors, for example.

ANY person I see who complains that in this game he's still KILLING, LOOTING, DELIVERING stuff is not really complaining about the game. It's safer to say that he's tired of themepark MMOs. Maybe he wants building stuff. Maybe he wants in-game politics. Apparently the things he's looking for do not exist in this game he's complaining about.

On a sidenote to the OP: you didn't like the platforming elements in the game?

OP -

EVERYTHING gets tedious and boring if done in excess.  This applies to everything: love, drugs, games, everything.

Personally, I love The Godfather and consider it the greatest film ever made.  However, I can't watch it over and over.  Why?  For the same reason I stated above.

People have become way too hard to please these days.  If you haven't liked a single MMO to launch this year for the reasons stated before, most likely you are overindulging in them.

I've played every major MMO release this year and I've enjoyed every single one of them.  They were all great in their specific ways.  TOR, Tera, TSW, GW2...all brought something new and something worthwhile and gave me hours and hours of enjoyment.  When I find I am starting to get bored of that game, I move on.

Please please please don't confuse burn-out due to excessive consumption with bad game design.  And if you do, I'd suggest taking a break or moving on to something else for a while.

Edit: Games are a hobby, a pastime.  Don't replace your life with one.  When you do, they stop being fun.

The combat system isn't good. Too dam fiddly having to constantly use the right mouse button to turn yourself around.

If only they did what every other MMO does and followed the convention instead of using the pesky right mouse button to turn the character(sorry about the /sarcasm, but really? This is the way it works in pretty much EVERY MMO)

 It breaks combat.

Yeah, no... How would you like to turn? You are welcome to use the arrow keys while the rest of us run circles around you.

Just plain annoying. Even the combat for each class gets tedious after awhile. For example firing a rifle being blown backwards is a good novelty but after a dozen or so times its irritating.

Then maybe that weapon set or even that class are not for you. EVERY class in the game gets a huge selection of skills, and if you get tired of one just switch.  The same class can play entirely different just by switching weapons... In some case to such an extent that it is almost entirely a new class.

Dynamic Events get more and more repetitive.  Am sick to death of escorting quests. Really do we have to escort people at least ten times in every zone? Its designed as a clever timesink to make you feel you progress at a slow pace. Even if its nott escort, its kill a thousand centaurs, bandits, worms. YAWN AND MORE YAWN.

Ok, you don't want to kill, and you don't want to escort... I am assuming you have the same problem with the quests that send you to collect items or to interact with points...

So just to be clear. You don't want to escort an NPC. You don't want to kill monsters. You don't want to collect items. What exactly do you want? What would you like to see in a quest? Hey, I know... lets have a staring contest quest... Everyone click on the NPC and then go AFK, and the person who is AFK longest wins? I mean, really. If you eliminate killing things, escorts, and collecting items... what else can you do? Well, there is a third one, the pure dialog based ones(i.e. the raven riddle challenge, or the riddle challenge with the kids, etc) but those are relatively few, and personally I wouldn't like if the entire game was those.

Personal Story- Even more tiresome quests which involved escorting or saving someone. More bandits and centaurs. Great.

Wow... ok, firstly see above re: dynamic events. Second of all, I have played all the races at least to lvl 15, and the personal stories are much more varied than that. Tell me, which order did you choose? If you chose the order of whispers you are doing things like breaking into a base(subduing guards without killing them), forging documents, and being generally sneaky. If you chose the vigil, yeah you are going to be fighting waves of people and participating in tournaments and escorting... Cause guess what, they are a military organization. Which race did you choose to assist once you joined your order? If you chose the skritt, you are going to be doing missions that involve stealing things and sneaking around, after all they are freaking scavengers. If you chose the Hylek, you are going to be fighting a lot more...

And again, if you don't like escort missions, killing things, or gathering things... what would you like to see in their place?

Gear- Can buy stuff with karma or pick up off the odd random mob. Most of the karma vendors don't have much and the majority of loot you pick is crafting stuff. Yawn another timesink.

Gear drops frequently in the game, Gear is given as rewards (in chests) for completing puzzles and group events, Gear is available from heart merchants at your level(and is usually good enough if you can't find anything better), Gear is being sold(in chat right now, since AH is sporadic... but that will be fixed soon enough), Gear is awarded for your personal story... How would you like them to handle gear? Just automatically mail it to you every time you level?

The World- Didn't get a feeling of OMG this is epic.  Where's the decent music scores in this game? Cities are instanced nuff said.

The cities are huge and there is epic stuff in them, but apart from that they are... Cities. As for the rest of the game, this one seems like personal taste, so I am not going to argue. You don't feel it is epic, I am sorry you feel that way. Personally, based on the rest of what you wrote 'I FEEL' that you probably haven't put much attention into the game, so have probably overlooked most of what everyone else has found.

Replayability value- the thought of getting to even level 30, then re-rolling and going through the dynamic event system again makes me feel nauseous. zerg fests of button mashing in every zone is not my idea of fun.

If you are mashing buttons, you are doing it wrong.

The zerg is already dying out as people have dispersed throughout the game. Taking the experience of dumping everyone who was starting into the starting zones at the same time as the experience for the whole game is unreasonable. If that is all you experienced, how much of the game did you actually play?

The OP is someone who likes to stand in one place, spam 1,2,3,4,5 for a few hours and call it a night. No, GW2 is not for you.

You are not being attacked for that. But for your hearsay , generalising and assumptions. And your opinion which is basically your advisor's opinion. Which kind of makes you the spokesperson of your own advisor. But I don't mind all that.

What I do wonder is on which shoulder your advisor sits when it whispers in your ear.

The game is about as interesting as trainspotting. But at least you kids are having fun doing the same repetitive rubbish all over again. Only this time its got a Klingon Bird of Prey cloak to mask the underlining 'kill ten rats' quest.

People will enjoy anything nowadays. The zerg is hip.

Why are you angry that people disagree with you?

It's making your stance very unreliable.

You were rather derogatory labeling any and all who enjoy this game as "kids". There's also a huge difference between what you just said and simply calling the game rubbish.

Just answering your question.

You've answered nothing. Being perceived as rather derogatory doesn't mean I have anger issues.

RogueTroopa is of course entitled to like or not like whatever games he chooses. I think he has plainly stated his reasons for not likeing GW2.

The next step is for RogueTroopa to find a game he actually does like, and play it. Wasting time and energy on a game he doesn't enjoy seems like a futile effort after placing a basic statement of what he found wanting in the game. So far I've been having fun playing GW2 like I've had fun playing many MMORPGs before it. When the fun wears off like it has for every MMORPG I've played before I will simply move on without complaint about the game itself. The problem I have is that I'm always looking forward to the next fun thing, and as a result I rarely stay with any kind of computer game longer than three months.

This isn't a condemnation of any particular game (although a few genuine bad games do exist), but a realization of my own inconstant nature. I would think it is very possible that RogueTroopa has a similar issue except he chooses to blame the game for failing to hold his wandering interest. The only way to have the perfect game is to build what you like yourself. Too many people project their hopes and desires onto the marketing copy for a game without understanding what the game is actually going to provide.

For me, I'm just looking for a place to group up with a couple of friends, roll through the content for a while, and to shoot the breeze about what is happening around us. When that no longer entertains, then I'll move onto a single player RPG, or FPS, or other form of entertainment.

So to break it down, there is nothing wrong with GW2. It works as designed. Either you like the design or you don't like the design. It is an MMORPG. Nothing more, and yet nothing less. It has its own quirks, and it doesn't re-invent the entire genre of fantasy in a mind blowing way. Wasting time hating on it is just that - a waste of time. A constructive critique of why it isn't the type of game someone prefers is fine, but anything beyond a constructive critique is not necessary for the people who are enjoying it.

Pretty simple isn't it.

I completely disagree; I think the combat is fine as it is, being a mesmer I have to use dodging techniques to prevent from being torn apart. The dynamic events are great, and far better than kill x monsters, grab x bags. The personal story is where this game really excells, I like the missions and the talking about as much as in any singleplayer rpg game. And you're saying the world ain't epic? Open your eyes and ears :)

The combat system isn't good. Too dam fiddly having to constantly use the right mouse button to turn yourself around. It breaks combat. Just plain annoying. Even the combat for each class gets tedious after awhile. For example firing a rifle being blown backwards is a good novelty but after a dozen or so times its irritating.

Personal Story- Even more tiresome quests which involved escorting or saving someone. More bandits and centaurs. Great.

Gear- Can buy stuff with karma or pick up off the odd random mob. Most of the karma vendors don't have much and the majority of loot you pick is crafting stuff. Yawn another timesink.

The World- Didn't get a feeling of OMG this is epic.  Where's the decent music scores in this game? Cities are instanced nuff said.

Replayability value- the thought of getting to even level 30, then re-rolling and going through the dynamic event system again makes me feel nauseous. zerg fests of button mashing in every zone is not my idea of fun.

It succeded because it's a dam good game. TOR had Bioware, EA and Star Wars and 500 mln dolars behind and they didn't have it neary as good as GW2.

Combat is one of the best I ever encountered. Everything have it's advantages and disadvantages. You can have multiple builds and there is not uber build whatsoever. And if there will be one - they will just adjust the skills. Because of dyamic combat, something between TERA and WOW - mouse look would be nice. Ask support if they plan to add it. But it's not a problem. Most of the games require you to use keyboard or mouse to turn camera. If you find rifle iritating then just change your weapon of choice. Rifles are for people that know how to use them.

If you don't like some dynamic events then just don't do them. Also there is no single event that require from you to kill 1000 of anything. Kill 5 and you will still have small rewars for your "hard work". Also you didn't even play this game because you would know that you can find many different dynamic events. Kill and escort are not the only one and many of them have multiple stages.

Personal story quests are unique. Sometimes it is just a conversation. Sometimes you pick from 2-3 different posibilities of how you want to do stuff. From what you say I really thing you NEVER played this game.

Gear is not a timesing. Not at all. Crafting is important in this game and it's quite interesting. You can also get items from mobs, vendors, karma vendors, trading post etc. During beta I was just using items from mobs and I was still able to have better equipment that standard vendors provide.

World don't feel epic. What you do in this world or some places are epic. You need dinosaurs playing guitar to have epic world ? :|

We have "zerg fest" because only in first day there was 400.000 players around low lvl areas. Give it time so people can lvl up and strech around the world. Every game at launch is like that. Everyone have lvl 1. If you thing that GW2 is just a button smasher then you are just an amateur. Sorry.

Hello guys and girls :)

first of all let me tell you some thing ,

i been playing mmo games from years i got good experince with games from long time ( old gammer )

forgive me of my bad spelling cus english is my second language :D

any way let me say it in short words and pls do not get mad at me it still my opinion eather you take it or leave it

i been waiting gw2 from long time ( around 5 years )

i was so exitied about this game and waiting so hard to be launch ,, i did made many friends entresting to play gw2 tell i made must them now playing gw2 that mean i was postive about this game and so exiting about it at the end i am not a fanboy

i already test the game my self and do not get me wrong , at begging i was telling my self and my friends this game ganna intrduce the new look of mmo style and i call it a revalotion But the fact was so sad and made me dispointed

this game was desingend for fun and it is a skill game and that topic was right and we like it but when we start playing gw2 with time i start feel some thing missing here and it is very important as a content of mmo games i can metion them in 2 parts :

1- desires

2- Aims or goals

for examble when u start play a new mmo to you as WoW or Aion you ganna explore the game and see

the control system + graphics ( you check the game ) if you start like it then your trip will start by doing a quests + killing mobs + dengouns etc to get some xp

in that point you ganna feel about how far the dev. did some thing good or bad in this game

for examble in WoW or Aion you will see the path and the street and you will start put your goals ( oh i need to do those quests i need to hit lvl X and start do some dengouns to get some nice gears ) and when you see some old famous players in the game while you noob you will start say i will hit cap lvl and get great gears and will be a great pvpers ( if you like pvp ) in other word you plan to be the best

ithis is the MMO guys and in gw2 we feel noting the game is more like as FPS game with dengouns and more maps

get friends and hang out with them and what is your realy aims?

some time i found my self disslike to get some xp cus this game give you everyiting when i go to spvp i get full pvp gears + weapon + i am lvl 80 lol

other thing , i beat that there are many players in gw2 feel lost ! this game give them no path or steps to see so they can fouce there aim it is just DE wich mean it is a game of exploring and having fun with friends

well exploring is a part of mmo we know and some players like it but they shot down some parts that make MMO adictied with aims and path to take

in small word guys , gw2 gives nice stuff but they toke important part that make MMO unique

i hope you guys did not get me wrong or i make u mad beacuse at the end it is my opnion

give this game 2 months and you will see many people feel boring

B2P what make it cool now but at the end it will be a non-active accounts for many players

for me i am already done from this game ,, i even feel it is not worth my 70 $

i did play tera b4 hit lvl 60 then quit tera but tera was worth to spent 59$ since i enjoy the lvling trip after that the game is fail since no content and pvp was bad

in gw2 noting make it exiting to lvl ,, no desires aims like other MMO games and those desires aims will make you desing a steps and path to you for ex. ( lvl up - do this dengoun to get fair pve gears t- get nice pvp gears etc . )

some of you will start metion that i am wrong and gw2 have those thing i would say pls give me a break a game with a skin gears? and when you say it is skill game then i see this game is like fps game as COD just find your foe and keep hit the skills ,, even the skills for class did not need a brain ,, few skills just keep press those few skills and you are fine

remmember guys the 2 words ( 1- desires 2- Aims or goals )

Rift? Rift is doing fine...the other two, never should have been sub based in the first place.

Some games shouldnt be sub based because they are poorly made, Tera is a prime example. It is exactly what the game designers are used to making, free game quality.

Guild Wars on the other hand doesnt NEED a sub because the company that makes it is willing to admit that the costs to run an online game doesnt cost what other companies claim they do to get more money form customers. So, you dont like the game, goodbye, GW2 is the first MMO to come out in 8 years that actually has managed to get over 300 of my old time guildmates to come to...and so far, nobody has quit.

the MMO genre needed a shakeup, one to break it from crap habits brought on by kiddie MMOs like WoW and so far, its working as a one/two punch along with the F2P market making massive profits that put all but WoW to shame in terms of revenue.

True.  Everyone likes to throw around the word "Fail" but a real Fail is something like Tabula Rasa.  You say GW2 is hyped?  I say the failure of GW2 is hyped.

Thats a great comment. Excellent

Cheers!
