Also would suggest you combo 2hander weapons with Staff so you can excape in time of need. Makes great defense. 2hander need to be kept up to date so you can deal damage through the glances and make sure you have some dots and protection skills. Also only use the starter heal when soloing in higher level zones. Because it has the block effect which come in handy.

So, if learned well..
A guardian can be a good damage dealer in PvP and might even be able to take down some opponents? Playing ATM: Rift KICKSTARTED: Camelot Unchained. (250 USD) |

I am a guardian too and I was having a similar problem, what I've realized is that using a 2h weapon as a guardian creates a dramatic drop in your defense and block rate, and on top of that your 2h weapon has absolutely no defensive skills. As for fixing this problem, I only switch to my 2h sword while my mace + shield skills are on cooldown, then switch back to drop my protection boon and use the skill that creates a thick bubble knocking enemies back. While in combat make sure to dodge roll and turn around and run for the hills if your getting jumped, as you will surely die no matter what class you are. Also, don't forget that in combat you can switch you weapon at will, so u can spam all 8 active skills you have in succession rather smoothly.

Since I need to constantly swap? If I have 2 hander / 1 h /shield, I cant have a scepter etc, and then Im also nerfed in range...

There isn't as much difference between light and heavy armor as people think when it comes to mitigating damage. It helps but if you test it, it is definitely not comparable to the difference you are used to in other games, especially as you pass the newbie levels.
What ends up happening is since the heavy armor classes often engage in melee in this game, they go in with the powerful warrior and guardian AOE attacks that clear out mobs while circle strafing mobs...end up avoiding a round of attacks due to them moving around, then the mobs are dead and they think "SURVIVABILITY!"
Try standing still even with a warrior, you'll die real quick. You really don't want to get hit by anything in this game, it hurts like hell no matter what your profession. Even if you trait/build for lots of toughness or something, if you facetank you will drop like a rock...it just provides a little more room for error.
Even moreso if the mobs are a little higher level than you, which happens very regularly in this game particularly early in the game if you don't cycle through all the racial starting areas.

So if I learn to dodge, and maybe put some defensive abilities into my spell bar, I might have a good chance as dps as guardian?

You have to learn that this isn't a "WoW clone" and that dodging and new tactics have to be learned and practiced to survive. As a warrior, if I'm hurt, I'll use my KIck ability to kick an enemy away from me, then i'll fire my healing ability. If i'm badly hurt I might have to do this twice before I go back in to fight. |

Yes. This is early game, later on for a dps 2h guardian I'd recommend making sure you have the trait that raises Ur power, and also get equipment with all power improvements. All that combined with knowing when to dodge and run and you should be just fine. There are many different ways to play as a guardian, no one is saying you "absolutely have to" play support tank, but since the guardian class itself is more so than not designed for support you just need to make sure you do a little extra tweaking if your taking a different route

In a game called rose online I played as a damage cleric, so if it can be done in a game as simple as that it certainly can be done here

I know this isnt a WoW clone, and I am very happy that it isnt :)
It seems I do greater in sPvP than in WvW and PvE.
sPvP I had a chance to nuke someone really fast, while some engineers kept destroying me pretty fast.
The reason I chosed Guardian over Warrior was because my friend is a warrior and I dont want to be the same as him, and the gear looks cooler at the start :P
I domt mind buffing/debuffing, but I want to be a damage dealer, and not a tank etc.
(yes I know theres no directly tank class, I just meant primarily a shield player) Playing ATM: Rift KICKSTARTED: Camelot Unchained. (250 USD) |

Its simple RIGHT NOW (and i hope that will never get changed) its not the usuall mmorpg where you can stand still, aggro multiple mobs at once and smash ur buttons for victory. Mobs actually hurt here and you need some (not alot) skill to kill them

Guardians have the lowest health pool in the game, so yes, getting hit will take a significant portion of that health. To compensate, Guardians also have easily the most defensive skill-set in the game, and with proper use can survive some pretty unbelievalbe situations. As I understand, they also gain more HP per point of Vitality than any other class, so throwing some points towards it might not be a bad idea. |

Your melee weapons do significantly more damage ... it's risk vs reward
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game. |
