Lets put Lore aside. Lets put Themeparks and Sandboxes aside. Let's look at the reality of the situation.
Anet have designed a game, from the ground up, to provide a co-operative PvE experience, with no barriers to being included in that content. That's the philosophy of the PvE game, zero barrier participation in co-operative play. Resource nodes vanishing after 1 person gathering them is a barrier - gone. Having to ask for an invite to get a reward for a PvE Event - gone. Having to trudge miles across a map to get to an event - gone.
Having to look over your shoulder in case you get ganked during an event - gone. Not being able to use AoE attacks during play in case you hit someone else and start a big fight, preventing further progress in said event - gone.
The simple fact is that GW2's design philosophy for it's PvE content has no room for open PvP because it creates a barrier to participating in that content. It's at odds with the basic design of the PvE game so it's - GONE.
To provide for the PvP fans you're offered GW style team based contests and for the fans of the old DAoC style of 3 sided large scale warfare we have World v World v World. If this doesn't suit you and your preferrences for the type of game you like, don't play GW2. |

Originally posted by GeezerGamer I agree. That was one of the few turnoffs for me about open world PvP. I never understood the fascination with some doing that. Never bothered with it myself. Actually got in arguments a few times with folks forming raid parties to go to the lowbie areas to harass players. I just found it lame as fuck. I want a challenge. Not to harass or roll over lowbies. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |

Originally posted by rygard49 That's fine. You're more than welcome to play any of the games which do offer open world PvP. GW2 doesn't have open world PvP for a very specific reason and implementing it would require a complete redesign of the game.

Originally posted by Doomedfox Ghosts of Ascalon was the first book. That book was the story of The Claw of Khan-Ur being recovered for the human queen. So she could give it back to the Charr in co-operation with some Charr trying to broker a peace deal. The second book, Edge of Destiny is about an unlikely group of all races working together until the end when Logan Thackery abandons the group to answer the call of the queen right before the group is to fight Kralkatorrik. Which leaves a rift in the group. Now that we have all of the characters from the second book in game. They are still split up, Rytlock and Logan are at odds. But the part that has been left out as far as I know is has the human queen already given The Claw of Khan-Ur to the charr and a peace deal has been brokered? In theory that would be the only thing that would bring the war to a stop and cease hostilities which is what we see in game now. And the Lore reason why everyone is now working together. There's a third book, Sea of Sorrows still to be released. So it may tell more of the over all story since Destinys Edge. It could perhaps chronicle the same sort of story that we'll have as a personal story in the game. Which ends in Orr, near the Sea of Sorrows. |

This has been discussed to the ground in multiple threads already and there really is not much on offer to really discuss from the OP, plus the thread has gotten derailed.
