Isn't a "collecter's edition" box just another version of the same idea as day-1 DLC?

It's comical how stupid EA/BW thinks its players are. Day 1 DLC is basically just like this: Before Day 1 DLC: You can buy 12 donuts for $6.00 After Day 1 DLC: You can buy 10 donuts for $6.00 and two SPECIAL BONUS OMFG-AWESOME donuts for $1.00. SCORE! This kind of sounds like a con...which is basically what day 1 DLC is. It's just a way for them to raise the price of the donuts to $7.00 without actually being honest about it. Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

Originally posted by mmoguy43 Collector's editions generally don't contain lengthy gameplay segments as bonuses like DLC does. They also typically contian some kind of physical goodies like tin boxes, figures, cloth maps, etc... Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

Originally posted by Creslin321 Lengthy or not it is still is DLC. And if they generally do or don't does that matter either? If the CE contains what you can get as a DLC then it is basically buying day 1 DLC with it. |

I might be mistaken but wasnt the day1 DLC FREE for DA:O? I'm almost positive it was. If it was then him useing that as a point of his argument is completely retarted. If you are giving me something for free why wouldnt I get it day1? In paticular DLC thats able to be gotten/used on day1? Just a stupid, stupid argument. How about they make thier games longer than a few hours so people CANT finish it in a day. ME3 was a prime example. The amount of people who finished it in a couple days compared to the amount of people who bought it had to be extreemly small. If you tell me 2% of the people who purchased your game is a good excuse to bend your customers over you are a piss poor company. Which Bioware has quickly become. I still havent purchased ME3 and while it makes me sad I simply wont untill I can pick it up for at least 50% off. They didnt launch a complete game so I refuse to pay full price for it. Simple as that. Unfortunatly its only a small portion of consumers willing to/capable of standing up for themselves like that. |

Day 1 DLC is simply increasing the price of the software by the back door; it's like a stealth tax on gamers. I have nothing against paid for DLC as long as it is extra content produced AFTER the game has gone gold and made it's merry way to the store shelves, but to require people to pay for content that is ready to go or even worse already on the disc awaiting an unlock code is in my opinion criminal.
Probably the worst example of this was in Bioware's ME3 with the Prothean DLC which was not only extra content but content that was pretty important to the overall story. |

Originally posted by vgamer I'm simply saying if the content already is pretty vast from the start and it's (your choice) to rush through content faster than the designed norm you should have to shell out a little extra cash before the rest. Everyone understands money and the value of it to varying degrees. However, there are those who don't know the value of "hard work" and "important play". These are typically the people who complain they have to buy DLC content because they rushed through everything in a weeks time. |

Originally posted by Creslin321 I wouldn't say EA thinks players are 'stupid' but Day 1 DLC sells really well so why wouldn't they keep on doing it? Yes, I am one of those that buys all of them. Why? Cause I like their games.
Wonder why there seems to be more haters on the internet? Read this by an actual marketing guy to find out why. |

Originally posted by jpnz To answer your question. They continue to do it because of people like you who by your own admission buy it all. If nobody bought it then the companies would stop doing it and instead would be forced to find other ways to persuade us to part with our money; better quality games perhaps? |

And once again Bioware PR doesn't fail in being hilariously bad. I'd love to meet the person who runs their comms irl and ask him how he ever got the job...

Originally posted by Xerith yep agree. IF they were really worried about how their game is percieved or received by the players at this point, they would not use the failed system of cutting off content in a F2P environment, all that reflects is the greed of the suits. greed is never attractive. |
