If ever there was a game worth taking your time during the leveling journey, it's GW2.  That said, I think I'd be lying to myself if I think I'm not going to get caught up in the initial leveling rush of this game.  I'm really looking forward to playing a new MMO from day 1 and making my way up the economic ladder by crafting and trading materials appropriately.  I need to do enough early on to earn enough money so I can reinvest it in some of the more expensive mid level materials.

Also, I've got my sights set on the level 60 Sylvari cultural armor!

It's important to remember that, aside from personal story, you don't outlevel anything in GW2.  So you don't miss anything by going through something as quickly and efficiently as possible the first time around.

There are also so many classes and races I want to play that I know I'll be revisiting every zone I wish to see multiple times.  The only thing I'd never rush through is my personal story.

I see your point and I'm not picking at you in general cause this might not apply to you. But  I can see some people saying that but once they hit 80 do you think people will really go back and do all the lower content aside from getting skill points? You might hit 80 and just want to do dungeons? Kinda get wha tI'm saying ?

I have to admit the story missions I did only after I was done sighting or tired of wandering around a bit. Most of the time I plan to just aimlessly wander about the game.

The more I'm around the forums on this site, the more bitter I become.

Well the thing is once you do a dungeon once would you want to redo it over and over again for exp or rather do some dynamic event you missed out on from earlier levels? I would rather go back and do the dynamic events, since they would be a fresh experience for me than redoing the dungeons.

I picked "Ehh Moderate" But I'm sure I will end up being level 80 on my first character within the first week after launch.

I'll be taking my time. I'm honestly not in much of a rush. In fact only reason I would generally rush to max level was to secure a spot in raids since I generally play dps. As that won't be the case in this game since it just five man dungeons, I don't have to.

"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"

Trying to take your time, you'll still level up pretty fast. Unless you just don't participate in any events you encounter. Just screwing around doing whatever will still get a level about every 1.5-2 hours.

First MMO I really have to question, what the rush would be for? To be the first guild to get X,Y,Z raid done? So you could have a fair fight in sPvP? Nice thing is even if you find the fastest way to level, you still have the level down system do you can still see all the content. Im just not sure I see the point of rushing. There is no classic end game, the game is the end, start and middle.

My wife and I will be sticking our noses in every corner. I dont plan on leaving a map till I know its backwards and forwards. Only think I am not big on is the vistas. I wish they would remove them from the map complete.

No monthly fee, no "real game starts at cap", so why the rush?

Looking forward to the "Done and got nothing to do!?!" and "First!!!!80!! after 2 days" Threads in here.

Just like in every other Theme-Park MMO in the last 10 Years, there will be an enormous crowd rushing at a 14h-average-playtime-per-day through the game and ranting afterwards. GW2 will be no different.

Hodor!

I have advised everyone in my Guild to take their time and smell the flowers - the game rewards nearly everything you can do with XP so I would be interested to see if someone could actually come up with a 'rush' method which worked more than marginally better than 'normal' play.

So much detail - why miss it rushing to 80?

In Guild Wars2 leveling is to slow, unless you are a completionist.
And unless you grind_ hearts, DEs and do every dumb delivery / pick / kill quest which is auto bestowed you will lack the level to move on properly. The 4 starting areas only hold up the illusion of choice till lvl20.Too many people are delusional thinking "exploring" landscapes and cherry picking events will get them properly leveled.

That's not the case, aside from daily / weekly / monthly archivements nothing will give meaningfull xp if you don't "grind" it to the end.
Hearts refelct the issue at best. Just killing stuff on the farmers field (because you feel like it) will not reflect your effort unless you filled the heart up.

GW2 is plaqued by artifical level scaling as every new game seems to be.
Fun part is, the fun comes when you can cherry pick the landscape, the "events" you want to do. And that's just starting the moment you can choose everything (or more).
For some this means the lvl30+, others lvl 45 areas, or higher.

It's sad that for a game where they claimed "your journed" is the way, they gone out of their way to ensure you can't skip the bad parts, there is not much about "your" just journey, which we all know just to well (themepark quest hub grinding).

Rushing to 80 will ensure you get the gameplay GW2 claimes to bring into the genre. Till then it's quest hub grind with boring escort / heart / pickup quests lightened up by the ocassional event, going from zone to zone. A narrow road. No real lollygagging, no cherry picking.

In short, gw2 is the same old till you hit the sweet spot, which may happen to be lvl80 or 10. (depends on the player), as for me it's lvl 45+. (because there is content i like doing, areas, events, dungeons), skill choice)

Im hoping in pace myself with leveling by mixing pve and PvP. Just worried that once I get grinding I'll just get in the mode of leveling hopefully lore is engulfing I skipped all story's.

I just recently read the 2books now certain characters actually stand out to me in bw3 aside from when I did bw1 . So that pretty much makes me want to take it slow

I think GW2 will be even worse than most in some ways. If you just play it like Wow you will completely miss the point of the game and many will.

We already seen plenty of threads about people who done all heart quests in an area and complain that they have ran out of content for their level (nevermind that there are 4 areas like that more). Instead of exploring the game they just see the heart on the map and rush there and then to next.

Then again, I don´t really want to tell people how to play their games so anyway is fine as long as you enjoy it, I just think you would enjoy it a whole lot more if you just relax and try to have fun instead of just hunting levels and gear.

There are always ways in any game, you can´t avoid it when you share out XP for different things.
