But how do you think people are going to power level to level 80? By grinding mobs?
So, how are power leveling people going to be at a disadvantage because they dont have enough Karma points when they are constantly doing the things that give them Karma points?

Originally posted by Xiaoki Not true. Best exp comes from personal storyline and PvP. DE exp is NOT the best, it's only the most steady (and the most fun, imo). If you get a friend or two to help in the PS's, you can do them well below the suggested level and as for PvP, I can't really explain how that works. I didn't PvP much, but the highest level people in the BWE's were the ones hitting PvP hardcore. I think maybe it's exp per kill, or win? Or something, you'd have to ask them. Supplement both with buying craft mats for discovery exp bonus (not necessary, but helpful and hell at least you might get one or two pieces of the stuff you need to compete), add exp bonuses from the cash shop, and it's easy to see how you can skip right on to 80 and be completely undergeared, not to mention have crappy selection of skills because you've ignored the skill point challenges. If you were to do everything though, it's not as much a rush as it is just not sleeping, and you probably still won't make it before someone else does.
EDIT - By the way, the elite level 40 Karma gear was 9800 points a piece. The higher level stuff will obviously be more. By level 40 I didn't even have enough for one piece, which means there's going to be a lot of post-cap grinding involved to get geared from karma vendors, which is not something that someone who wants to "hit 80 then jump into WvWvW" is going to be doing. So even if you somehow managed to outlevel someone rushing the PS exp through DE's, you're still not going to be geared just by the time you hit 80. Or maybe because the high level PvE zones were blocked. |

I can't believe rush to 80 is getting more than 5% of the vote. I guess I need to consider the polling group. Wonder what it would be for a less crazed MMO sampling.

I plan on taking it easy. Partly because real life will make it so but I also want to take my time. I'm in no hurry.

Originally posted by Xiaoki Doesn't matter. GW2's leveling curve is flat, remember? The exp you get from a DE at level 20 isn't much different than the exp you get from one at 60. If it were, then the higher level you are the faster you'd level, which of course would be ridiculous. The only change is scenary. How many Karma points do you get from a DE at level 60?

People will rush it, then run around like they accomplished something amazing in life

Originally posted by gaeanprayer The XP from PVP also comes from dynamic events, like attacking and defending keeps. They provide lots of karma, too. And one thing: By taking it slow, exploring, crafting, waiting for NPCs etc. you probably end up leveling faster than someone who is trying to "rush". |

So, you're just ...guessing about high level PvE content? Is that it?
"It gets progressively harder to get gear mostly because quest reward gear is skimpy on the stats. The best gear comes from crafting and spending tons of karma at elite vendors, and chances are you can't afford either if you're rushing." You really had no idea what you were talking about did you? |

There's no reason to rush, but there isn't a reason to stall either (since you can get back later in a meaningfull way to complete the area and still have a challange or see new things).
However, I'll probably level several characters at the same time so I'll be moving very slow. |

I'll be hurrying, but also reading EVERYTHING said, exploring, crafting, etc. I'm also lucky to have 7 days off to start GW2, so that could easily be 70 or more hours there. :P

I have no reason to rush. you got somewhere to be? WvWvW can wait for me until i have seen and done all the things there are to see and do. then i will start a new alt and jump in at lvl 2. (and that alt will probly never see the pve light of day...) |

Since you can come back to lower levels and do the dynamic events, I don't see a reason not to rush. So, i will be rushing to level 80.

Originally posted by Xiaoki So hostile, especially since everything you said was ironically based on assumption. You can tell by my sig, the highest level I got was slightly over 40. The information I posted is based on everything I observed up to that point. Yes, quest gear sucked, yes, things I took my time to gather mats and craft were better than them and even better than Karma rewards, yes Karma rewards cost tons more Karma than you'd have by the time you reach the level required for it. No, I don't know what I level 60 DE is, obviously. No one does. It wasn't available to test. We also know that the leveling curve is flat, so obviously you're not going to get more exp for higher level content otherwise, like I said, you'd level faster the higher level you are, and Anet said it would take about as long to level in your 20s as it would to go from 79 to 80. Lots of pieces of the puzzle that should be easy enough for people to put together by now. That's sort of how it works. People take the information from what they've experienced, and combine it with the information they've been given, and form a conclusion. It's certainly more informed than anything you've said up to this point, but feel free to discard it if it bothers you that much. Originally posted by gaeanprayer I actually liked your own thread where you showed what you were able to accomplish, I believe, by the end of BWE2. You did a lot and got a lot done and described what goes on pretty well. SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever! |

Originally posted by colddog04 Thanks. Yeah I managed to accomplish quite a lot, but it happened over 2 beta weekends which is almost 6 days, playing anywhere between 5-8 hours a day depending on how busy I was. Chances are the people rushing are going to aim to get it done within 2-3 days, and it's possible, but they're going to miss out on a lot. Personally, I don't care about how people choose to play. What I don't want to see however, are a bunch of terribly geared level 80s getting rolled in WvWvW, then bitching in forums that "OMG IT'S ALL ABOUT GEAR WTF". All because they ignored a crucial element of the game in effort to be the first level 80 in WvWvW. Now, rushing to 80, THEN taking your time to gear yourself at least moderately before PvPing, that's not a bad idea. It's also a whole other argument, though. I plan on doing w/e I'm in a mood for day to day, hour to hour. Some moments all I want is pvp, other moments I'm more concerned with exploration and lore discovery. I really like creating certain looks ingame so I'll be gear hunting aswell. In many games that I have played I always seem to search out making my warriors look like Samurai and there always seems to be a combination of armor and equipment to help me do so. In other games I may have rushed to cap to maintain a level playing field with the griefers and gankers to atleast give me a fighting chance when questing for lore. On some level I didn't like doing it but it was more about survival than anything. With the downscaling, I don't foresee any reason to rush through anything though. I plan on playing one of each class and atleast one of each race. Leveling to cap may happen faster for one or the other but I don't think I will do it on purpose, just gonna play to be playing. I think this is A-net's intention with how Tyria was crafted this time around. GW1 was pretty much the same thing, fast to a low cap and much of the world was the same level so level cap wasn't a huge issue. |
