10- 35 FPS depends on if I was near another player.

I can max out BF3 with 50 FPS, so the low FPS was only excusable by people saying that the game was in a beta state which wasn't using my gfx card or something.

Something is wrong there. I Played with everything on max with the exception of FXAA off (Or whatever the AA option was called) shadows on med,  I was ranging from the mid 20's to mid 30's fps

To computer hobbyists, my rig will seem antiquated, but it's run SWTOR, Rift, LotRO, TERA, D3, SC2, and more on high settings.  Does GW2 look better than all of those games?  Somewhat a matter of opinion, and despite a preferred style, not better than TERA.

I'm running a gtx260, core2duo 3ghz.  3gb ram (pointless to have more on this XP system).

I don't mind running this game on low, if it looked acceptable, which it doesn't (image to follow).  But the problem is, even with everything to low the fps is under 20.

Are we still waiting on a miracle patch (I'm speaking to those without beefy computers), or what?

Here is what the game looks like on my system:  http://imgur.com/G5S17

Honestly, I already know what the responses will be, save telling me to get better hardware, there's no excuse for this poor of performance.

However, if this is highly unusual, let me know, or if there's known fixes.

It may have nothing to do with your rig. Prior to the stress test, Anet did announce:

"Unlike previous stress tests, we will be actively working on the game during the event, so you might experience connectivity problems or discover features that are not working as designed. Any issues you experience are a result of the rigorous conditions of the stress test, and are in no way representative of the state of the game at launch... "

Honestly, even your fps is low for this type of game if you ask me.

And to spaniard, I seem to be the only one noticing, and a couple others said their fps was better in the stress test than in the last BWE.

Are you talking about the ground textures within the first 15 or so feet of your character or the ground textures further away?  I asked because anet has anisotropic filtering disabled for whatever reason and this makes a HUGE difference for textures more than a few feet away.  Enable AF 16x in your video card control panel and you will see a huge difference with ground textures at a distance.

Honestly, I already know what the responses will be, save telling me to get better hardware, there's no excuse for this poor of performance.

However, if this is highly unusual, let me know, or if there's known fixes.

First off, for BWE1, I had the same video card as you, but my CPU is an AMD Phenom II, running at 4.03 Ghz. I ran a mix of high and very high settings and averaged some where around 33 FPS at 1680x1050, so I have trouble believing that you have to run with all settings at low to get under 20FPS.

Second, I looked at your "screen shot". As someone that has worked a lot with image files over the years, it is was readily obvious that you have taken a low settings screen shot and then further degraded it by reducing the color depth considerably. It was obvious from the dithering pattern and loading it up in PSP verified you had reduced the color pallet to 256 colors. (For comparison, a real screen shot from the same area of the game showed over 121,000 unique colors).

So, you'll have to forgive me for calling Shenanigans!

For the record, I now run the game on a GTX570. Everything maxed, but with Post Processing turned OFF, (the game, IMO, looks much better with it off and turning it off boosts performance), average FPS is somewhere around 45 FPS.

Yes, the colors were reduced to 256, I didn't consider that, I just avoided using jpg to prevent compression artifacts from appearing.  I wasn't trying to pull anything.  And yes, all settings were low, I was trying to stress how the game looked to me WHILE IT WAS GOING 10 FRAMES PER SECOND (read slow and carefully).   /eyeroll

This^

Next time please try to actually use your reading skills before trying a beta stress-test event.

As for the performance, everything runs almost picture-perfect for me...and yes...it's because i have an awesome PC like a true gamer.... u'jelly?

"I'm running a gtx260, core2duo 3ghz.  3gb ram (pointless to have more on this XP system). "

You are practically running on a 10yo PC with an even older operating system and u expect every game that comes out to move picture perfect. Stop being so selfish and expect every product to be specially tailored around what u have. I won't even ask u what cooling system u have...i bet it's the stock one.

U have to come to therms that, at some point in time u need to invest in better components if u actually want to keep pace with "the times" and play what u want...but don't start judging companies like they did something wrong, not making the game work phenomenally on 10yo+ pc technologies lol. They did a stress-test it's normal to see bad performance. Will it move picture-perfect on release? on your system maybe not LOL, but they will continue improving the performance with patches.

jpg jaggies are not an issue with the game produced screenshots. How could you think that reducing to 256 colors wouldn't be much, much more degrading to image quality? Besides, conversion wouldn't get rid of any jpeg compression artifacts in any event!

I played BWE1 with the same card, most current non-beta drivers as of that date. I started by setting the slider to Best Appearance, then knocked shadows and reflections down one notch, also turning post processing (it was labeled differently in BWE1) OFF.

Averaged about 35FPS.

My CPU was running around 4Ghz, but that shouldn't account in any way for your very atypical performance numbers.

Why do they only have 3 weeks? Maybe its something they have been working on for months and wont be ready until sometime in the next 3 weeks. Why you think that they put EVERYTHING they have in the works into the BWE's to then start again on new fixes/bugs after is ludicrously shortsighted.

By this method of thinking, they didnt start work ont he Asura or Sylvari until after BWE2 and they got them done in 1 month....

If you continue to make sweeping statements like you know what everyone everywhere thinks about a certain topic then I am going to shout at you.
It easy to type 'I think this is the worst game ever'
Rather than the 'This is the worst game ever'

It seems it likes a good CPU, during BWE3 I had a core2duo E8400 and 4GB of DDR2 and was running the game at 1080p on the preset Balanced setting and rolling around the 40-50FPS level when out of town.

Last week I upgraded to an i5 3570 and 8GB of DDR3 and in the stress I bumped the graphics to the preset between Blanced and Max and more or less was running at a consistant 60FPS (Vsync on).

GFX never changed being an Radeon 6870

Your graphic card might explain it. Buy a new 400 series or 500 series and some more RAM, 3 GB is not enough. Also a new CPU, like I5 or I7.

Everything on lowest settings.

10- 35 FPS depends on if I was near another player.

I can max out BF3 with 50 FPS, so the low FPS was only excusable by people saying that the game was in a beta state which wasn't using my gfx card or something.

Something wrong with your setup Scott. Mine is similar and we tested last night by swapping the GPU out to see if it had been GPU optimised yet.

i5 2500k OC'd to 4.4

8GB RAM

GW2 installed on an M4 SSD (wouldn't have made a difference)

GPU's tested GTX460 1GB & AMD 7950 3GB

Game setting maxed except from shadows on high instead of ultra, 1920x1080.

GTX460 was getting ~80fps running around in the open world and 40-70 depending what was going on in sPvP.

7950 was getting ~100fps running around in the open world and ~50-90fps in sPvP.

The game still appears to be more CPU bound but your i5 even not overclocked would have been auto-boosting to ~3.8ghz when the game was running and you should have been getting MUCH better FPS than 10-35.

I might suggest disabling background active anti-virus "live scanning," regardless of the brand.  I was only pushing around 25-45 (depending on pop. in an area) with nearly identical system config (i5 3.10GHz, 8gig of RAM, Factory OC'd 560 Ti), and my fiance has an i7 2.0 GHz, same ram and gtx, and we were only pushing the same FPS.  I disabled our "live" background antivirus program while GW2 was loaded, jumped 30fps on my machine, 42 on hers, and I was recording with Fraps.  Background programs eating into system resources seems to be a bog and the game still seems to put lots of load on the CPU than letting the GPU handle what its built for.  Just my 2 cents.

I run 2600k, gtx670, 8 gigs of ram, system on SSD (not the game tho).

And my FPS was jumping up and down like crazy. 170FPS to 30 FPS span.

I would be in the same battleground with same people and get 90 FPS and 10 min later i'd have 30 FPS, and in 10 min 60 so on and so on. Thing is, FPS didn't jump frequently up and down, but it seemed to either be high or low and holding there. *shrug*

I'll try disabling the antivirus as someone said it worked for them for massive FPS gain when I next have the chance. But still, don't like that much jumping in FPS, especially if I should have pretty constant high FPS. I formated the system few days ago so it's very very clean compared to what it was in BWE3 but performance was the same on stress test. So yeah, I can safely say, blame the game :)

Much as I love the game, I can't say the performance is that great. I have a pretty high-end system - i7 2600 Sandy Bridge, 16 GB RAM, GTX 580 and there are times when the game feels sluggish. Not necessarily in events with lots of people in the world, but more in certain parts of the world.

Even running at 2560x1600 resolution and max settings I get 60-70fps in most places, and then in others about 25. A few examples of where fps really drops are just outside Bandithaunt Caverns in Queensdale, in the area where the heart requires you to investigate bushes and kill bandits, another is just south of Lion's Arch on the road towards the zone portal, and another is the devourer cave in Plains of Ascalon.

I have dropped the resolution to 1920x1600 which then gives me 80fps in most places, but again certain areas even without lots of players drop this to about 35fps. Still playable of course, but it makes me wonder why some parts of the world cause a 40fps or so drop. This happens even with shadows turned down to medium.

Go into that and goto the services tab and check "hide all microsoft services" box then select disable all. Then go to the startup tab and disable all then restart your computer, start the game and see if that helps

Bumping this in case it got missed by the OP.

It's possible the performance issues are not a hardware bottleneck, but a software conflict.  Turning off the non-MS services can make the system run in a more virgin state.

If the multi-threading in GW2 doesn't play well with "something else" on the machine, turning off the something else could resolve the conflict.

...

Another thing to consider is that the video card driver might have access to optimizations that the GW2 engine does not.  The most common for a performance game in the nVidia Control panel is "Texture Filtering - Quality".  Setting that to performance or high performance can make a huge improvement on my system in other games.

Since this is an nVidia setting and not a D3D setting, it's very likely the GW2 engine even on low quality settings still has the filtering set on high.

...

Hope this is helpful.

I'm sorry but your rig is pretty bad, and i can't even believe you're complaining about ANY pre-release game's performance, and i find it hard to believe tera ran and looked up to par with you

obviously the fix needed is your pc
