The game is upon us for sure. And it's not bad! :)
I like the graphics, now this is a matter of taste ofcourse but I would think that alot of you outhere gw2 fans or not would agree that the graphics are nice! The combat is okej, not top notch but not bad either. It works, simple is that! Instancing in a mmorpg-game is and have always been kind of "meh" for me and....well, the game is a little too instanced for me in a way. A mmorpg should be "a world to explore". But still though, it is nice to run around to different locations in this game. The pvp in this game will do just fine! It's equal and fair but not as fun as in some other games though. That random encounter that you stumble across when questing and exploring once in a while just aint there!! Kind of miss that.
The pve for me though is another matter. I just can't find myself enjoying it! It just won't hook me up. But I leave this as another "matter of taste thing" because of that I just don't know what to put my finger on.... it just don't hook me up here personally.
The holy trinity is no more! Well, I got no problem with the so called holy trinity, works just fine for me but it's nice to see something else for once. Nice!
Gameplay is kind of in the middle though, I haven't played THAT much just a few hours but It doesn't feel as smooth as I hoped. Perhaps this is a matter of taste aswell though. But for me personally it just doesn't feel as good when jumping around and pressing your abilities as it does in some other games. It's not really bad though!
Overall, things seems polished. WvWvW seems fun even though I'm not sure if it'll sustain fun for long!? Who knows, that is something that only time will tell!
My overall preview is...*drum* *drum* *drum*.... Decent with a + Worth purchasing? Yes! It's free to play after purchasing the box so why not do so and play it but it won't be the so called "next one"! Not a snowball's chance in hell!

The game needs a far more solid tutorial IMO. But if you really try to play the DEs (dynamic events) later on they will start to shine. In the beginning the DEs are 1 or 2 step and pretty lame. Later on they can chain halfway across a map. They need to be given a lot of time. It takes a lot of getting used to before you can really judge it. A few hours really isn't enough. Even several days worth of play isn't enough. Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play? |

This is a very well worded and unbiased review. I do feel you should try the PvE content again in higher level areas, since DE's get more intricate as you advance in the game. But if you're just not feeling it and the DE's, that's really just your preference, like you said. |

Just to point out, unless you are doing Personal story or the area is full there is no instancing in the GW2 world (obviously dungeons and Spvp aside) Loading screen != instance! |

I give this review a Decent with a +.
For me, PvE is what takes the cake. In fact, PvP for me is not my thing so that's my lowest rated part of GW2 - although, it's not rated very low. :) WvWvW is the only PvP type aspect of any game that I have come to love.
I think the graphics are superb! I can't think of any other game with so much detail.
As for instancing, the only instancing I came across was for the personal stories. Was that too much for you? Not for me, especially since you don't have to do those. Or do you consider PvP and WvWvW to be instanced? I know they are not in the open PvE world, but I don't consider them instanced, just different parts of the game.
All in all, a pretty level-headed review, I think. So far GW2 is the end all be all for games for me. But, it isn't for everyone. Is any game? It may not be perfection, but I love it! :) |

Good review. It's a solid game that I expect to enjoy for a long time and will be remembered as something that finally tried to break away from the typical MMO model, and now that the betas are over I think a lot of people have calmed down on their expectations and just expect a fun time. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |
