Hello everyone here are alot of Ideas for an Open and persitsant world for an MMO. I've played FFXI for about 7 years total, WoW about 4 years total, and a bunch of others for an extremly short time. Don't get me wrong I loved wow but I dont want to play it forever as a themepark game! Same with FFXI, it's set on soo easy mode that I can never go back to it again! Currently playing FFXIV as I'm waiting to see what 2.0 ( As of 7/26/12 it's called FFXIV: Rebirth) brings! GW2 is a nice concept that I can play but it still falls short for me , even though I'll buy it cause it's B2P and can fit with my sub games! Below is somethings that I think that would fit an sandbox well! 1. Game Engine This is the bread and butter of the game, it needs to be built from the ground up and optimized to run the game properly ( I'm looking at you FFXIV, Vanguard, & AoC)! 2. Graphics/Art Direction Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but hey lets face it some games are meant to be played with up to date graphics. The Art direction should be determined by what type of theme the game is. The examples are: Fantasy, Space, Modern, or Steampunk. 3. Payment Model Personaly I accept the P2P model or the Guild Wars 1&2 approach. Heck even if they charged something like 7.99-9.99 a month would attract alot of frugal folks! If going by the Item shop route, then lets keep it strictly cosmetic items only. 4. Nations & Territories (political system) This would be its own gameplay. Let's say We have 10 different nations, those 10 would have a different type of NPC Ruler based on the type of governing system (Caste,democracy, monarchy). The political system would allow players to governing positions like Duke, sheriff, council, or diplomat via elections and with certain feats accredited to your standing status with the nation. ( Note you must be of citizenship of the nation if you want to hold an position) Players would be allowed to raise taxes for infrostructure, Trade agreements, sign treaties, declare war and ect,but be careful some things will make your citizens happiness decrease. 5. Cultural, Artistic, Militaristic, and Economic Influence This would allow nations to influence the world through different ways like Artists, Armys, trade routes, and commerce. Has an effect on Great Wonders! 6. Great Wonders (Great pyramid of Giza or Great Wall of China) Doesn't have to be named after any of these just a start of something like these. Great Wonders would require a huge amount of resources as well as culture, population ,and geographical location, because can you build a Great Dam in the desert? They will also unlock the Golden Age for that particular nation. 7. Golden Age This would be based kinda on the Civilization Games. Would require a certain amount culture, population, and a Great Wonder to trigger it! It will increase output production and influeance by 35-50%. 8. Religion Religion would help determine a players alignment (think of it as a class but not really just affects stats) with a very small stat boost in one category. It will also be part of the cultural influence. 9. True Persitant Open World ( everchanging world) I know alot of people are tired of the same cut of hubbed settings! Let there be concequences to our decisions on what we choose that will impact the world. Destroy a nation and that culture, race, technology, and ect will be gone forever. Leave a city abandond and enemys will repopulate it ( like a dungeon) the longer it has been inhabited by the enemy the stronger they will be to defeat. 10. Fame & Infamy ( Good & Evil ) Think of this as Good vs Evil well sort of. If you're an just an humble soldier and save a small town from killers you can raise your fame by defeating them. Do more good deeds like this and you will eventually become famous. With your new found fame you can then acquire new Elite quests, get free random items, statues errected of you, discounts, and hold political offices. Heroic Sacrifices ( A heroes defining moment:IE death ) can increase the party's or npc 's in a radius stats by 25% while the Hero (player) takes a stat decrease of 10% for 24 hrs ( Hero's defining moment cannot be used more than once 24/hrs). The same will also work for Infamy to. If you come to a town and terrorize the citizens they will bow and cower in fear of your evil deeds. This will also have dire concequences towards the players as npc's and other players can place bounties on your head whether they want you dead or alive. If caught alive then you will be jailed and depending on the law of the land you can pay a large bribe to escape, broken out by fellow players of the same faction, imprisoned, tourtured, or executed. If imprisoned then you will spend a few hours in jail, if tortured the NPC or player will have a chane to torture you for awhile and your stats would be decreased by 10% for 24hrs (once tortured and released you cannot again engage in assasinations or other dubious acts). BE Aware Powerful NPC's can hunt you and kill you! 11. Bounty Hunters/Posses's Bounty hunters can be either npc's or other players. In lawful areas bounties can only be placed in the sheriff offices. In unlawful area's bounties are not so .The amount you pay is determined by the fame/infamy level. 12. Jail You can be jailed for serveral different type of offenses.You can break out, broken out, pay a fine or bribery. 13. Quests Unlike most other mmo's you dont gather the quests the quests come to you depending on the random outcome and other factors. 14. Expidentionary Forces Joining said forces by order of the supreme leader (King, council, president and ect) or by enlisting your fame and other acts will help determine your rank in your military career (can play a role in heroic acts and political office). 15. Organizations organizations can be ran by npc's or players, they are the unoffcial groups (maybe guilds) of the world they can either have minor or huge impacts on the world, lets say a group of assassins decided to take the world leaders out and install a puppet in place to change the outcome of future proceedings. Maybe a group of religeous nuts that decide to call a powerful avatar into the world that must be defeated...! The choise is the players base! Maybe I want to live my life as a pirate on the open seas! 16. Different Races As the title says....we different races! I'm tired of the same equation Humans>Elves>Beast Cow>Dwarf>Gnomes! How about something different? I know humans are going to be one of the most chosen to be selected but lets get some new blood in here! 17. Player Housing I've never played an mmo that had a "True" custom made house! I know EQ2 had this and even thought the graphics were a little outdated (It's where it shinned the most, well to me and I never played it long) the concept showed alot what players could do to their house! P.S I heard SWG had a nice housing system! ( again I never played SWG it was in my FFXI playing heavy days) 18. Open Sea PvP/PvE This would be a form of pvp/pve! In pvP players would have to capture or kill the crew of the opposing ship! Ships can be crewed by Npc's or other players. Npc's can be rented or purchased in the Sailors Guild! Random Procedurated Dungeons, so you don't get tired of the same dungeon. With random dungeons come Random Procedurated A.I.. Same reason for dungeons. Some mob that had a specific A.I. can be on another mob that had another A.I.. Random Procedurated Plant-growing: Ever want to see your tree fall down and get grown a new? Advanced Building System... Build with a smart anti-ugly design software. First you need to build the exterior, you choose texture and done. THEN the interior, choose texture, done.

19. Sea battles: pvp and trade routes would be in a tight race for supremecy! 20. Epeditionary forces & Military Career: You will be allowed to serve in these different branches depending on they type of genre.(Land, Sea, & Air) Players can achive different ranks and titles ( Seargent, General or Squire, Knight ). You will also have a paygrade also to! 21. Random World Bosses: Like the title says it will be randomly generated bosses!
