I've just put some minutes into GW1 and I think what made the PVE in GW1 so awesome are the missions.
I kinda wish they had those in GW2 too. Instanced missions. Funny, right?
For any of you who played the beta (I haven't) - does GW2 tell it's story well? GW1 has a really epic way of telling it's story. I'm kind of concerened whereas this exists in GW2 too. Especially since people on the forum have been kind of bummed on this. Does GW2 do it's job well in that aspect? (no troll) |

personal story is the major story arcs in gw2. I'm a bit of a lore fan, and loved that aspect in gw1 too.
rpg/mmorg history: Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW (9500 hrs on main mage)> oblivion > LOTR (480 Hunter) > Rift (230 hours mage) > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(350 elementalist) Now playing GW2/Diablo 3/Rift Waiting Archeage. |

Ofc being able to actually jump in a mission is a bonus too ;p

Does the personal story feel.. uhhh... as "global" as the missions? Like it doesn't concern only you? I'm having a hard time conveying my thoughts here.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is, is the story progression as good as it was in gw1. |

Originally posted by expendable83 Do you even have any idea what you are talking about? 1) Zones have nothing to do with type of content! It's not like they get rid of zones and the content will magically be different. As I said, EVERYTHING boils down to basic archetypes. What matters is how IT IS PRESENTED! Implementation is everything. Can it present it in a way that's fun and entertaining. What's fun and entertaining will be different for everyone. Just as with books, some people like fantasy, some people like mystery, some people like romance. Again, do I need to say it for the 20th time? Everything boils down to basic archetypes. Not even Blizzard will be able to avoid the basic archetypes with Titan. 2) Zones don't really have to do with story. Zones are in place for technical reasons -- and that is to manage lag. Each game manages lag differently, but most have zones. I can tell you, I DO NOT what to be in a single zone world if lag is too much. We do not have technology that can effectively manage the lag a single zone world would present yet. Even WoW is zoned. 3) Do you even understand what persistence is? Persistence is when a game continues to change even after you log out, which GW2 does. Events go on whether you are there or not. Mobs die and respawn, whether you are there or not. It has nothing to do with zones and loading screens. And instance is just a copy of a zone. Technically, overflow system is just GW1 instancing system but on a large scale for everyone. As a zone/instance reaches it's player cap, a new instance of the zone is created. It has nothing to do with the story or DE. It's just there to manage populations and lag. And as for overflow, would you rather wait in a queue or play the game? 4) Lag doesn't always have to do with the game. Yes there are times where lag is caused by the game. However, most people experienced very little lag during play during the BWE. Which tells me that it's on your end, not Anet's end. I had no lag while playing. 5) Everything scaled properly for me. Have you ever considered that mobs aren't suppose to be easy to take down? And maybe it was difficult to take down BECAUSE they were only using 1 and 2? I came into the game expecting a challenge, not expecting it to be a skip through a daisy field. I actually love the fact that I will actually die if I don't pay attention. |

Don't know, I refuse to research it and spoil it for myself. It is the same developers so they know the score.

Big giant dragon and Orr at the end of it all sounds pretty epic.

Originally posted by omerya From my perspective, the whole thing is a story. Yes, there is the "personal story" that is a narrative you follow based on choices you make in character creation and throughout the game. It is mostly instanced, though you can invite other players to "your story". Some people like these, some people feel that they're a weaker aspect of the game. Apart from this, though, the whole dynamic events system is one that tells an unfolding story, with multiple stories located throught the zones. You may stumble into one "part" of the story playing out in front of you, but it is critical to stop and listen to what NPCs say at either loss or victory conditions for that particular event, because they are often cuing up to do another part of the story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oit0gBEWHo Throughout the game, if you listen, you regularly have NPCs calling out to you to particpate in some element of a story. I noticed this a lot this last BWE. But it requires you to play the game more slowly and pay more attention for these cues. And it doesn't "tell" this story in cutscenes, it tells it through your participation in these events. "Loading screens" are not "instances". |

Originally posted by bcbully It was planned from the start. Bobby Stein, the guy who over-sees all of this was interviewed about a year-and-a-half ago and went through how they're doing it... They also demonstrated some of it at Gamescon in 2010. |
