Its not only about yourself in a fight, thats a common begginer mistake. Its about the combo fields and the combo finishers that you can use to create new effects. The game is far more complex than it looks since you gota always pay attention to how your skills work in synergy with others.

Nobody has reached level 80 yet, so thats like judging wow's combat at level 40. seriously gulld wars 2 must be the most trolled game ever. I can't understand it though because arena-net are probably the friendliest and most honest devs in the industry.

At it's basic level, and seeing how it hasn't even released yet, it may seem like a simple system right now. The groups and guilds that will eventually start controlling WvWvW will have plans of attacks. Leaders will form small groups with combinations of professions working together to conquer certain objectives. What we are seeing here in the BWs is not what will be going on a month or two into the games release. Combo fields will make a huge difference once learned.

If any of you remember vanilla WoW and the first Alterac Valley battles it was total zergfest. It was like that for weeks until leadership took over and people started using tactics. The problem with WoW was the Battlegroups were not flexible and it would eventually be lopsided and one faction just got stronger and stronger. GW2 is different in that every 2 weeks they grab the edge of the map like an etch a sketch, shake it, and then match servers up.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

thats what happens when for the past year the game has been hailed as the second coming.

Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.

it has been hailed as the second coming by people who dislike the game..it is always people who are trolling the game that use such phrases..so quit the bulshit. i can find 4 troll threads already today that use such a term.

i see this posted by people who dislike the game WAY more often than fans of the game.. people who like the game praise it the same as any other game this one just happens to be a lot more popular on these forums than most other MMOs

I agree with you OP, even if the arenanet fanboys do not.  The skill rotation is to basic, the auto attack feature alone hurts PvP.  It is just a paper rock scissor game.  There needs to be more reactive combat, and less proactive.  There is a lot of pre-fight setup where you get your skill set and weapon selection.  But once in combat, its just a matter of hitting those buttons.  There is no synergy between the skills you do have either.  There is no setup, no building of momentum.  There is no reaction to what the other player is doing aside from roll a few times, you can counter a potential attack with a timed parry or block or counter spell.

The skills are interesting for some classes, yes, and they do make PvP a little different from other games, but in the end there is not enough heat of the moment strategy and intuition to make this a true skill based PvP game that is worthy of MLG.

But time will tell, cause it is still too early.

This is anything but a paper/rock/scissors game. A guardian doesn't always beat a necro, a warrior doesn't always beat an elementalist, etc. It all comes down to how you built your class and how well you play it. A build with no condition removal is going to die to an enemy with a condition build.

As for reacting, have you met a warrior in GW2? Dodge the bulls rush or die. No setup? Try playing an elementalist and say that with a straight face, they are all about setups and combos. If you get stunned use a stun break(which is all most other MMO's had). No reaction to the other player except rolling? There is plenty to react to and position yourself for like stuns, stealth, conditions, boons, traps, high damaging abilities(hundred blades!). Just because you can't see the things to react to doesn't mean they aren't there.

As for synergy, what are you talking about? There is a ton of synergy in not only your own skills but your team skills. Again go play an elementalist. You have 16 skills and there are plenty that work very well together. Just off the top of my head static field + Lava font or ride the lightning+stun aura+Dragons breath+ring of fire+burning feet. Even the simple classes like warrior have combos like the overly popular bullsrush hundred blades.

The one thing I will say about GW2's PvP is that the super high burst numbers need a bit of toning down. That's the entire reason the warrior is popular right now, they bring really high numbers to the table. I like the longer fights though, so maybe it's just me.

It's not that PvP is "not skilled," it's that you are not skilled at PvP.

SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever!

Yeah, because not having 100,000 skills available at any given moments means that playing a game is easy and takes no skill.

That's why games like DoTA are so easy and casual friendly, because you only have 4 skills available at any given moment. Wait...

Elusive indeed, but at least then they stand a better chance than the Dodos.

So the OP is basically saying  that GW2 PVP is like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joDjwtjIQS8

I'll just  buy  Rock'Em Sock'Em Robots instead. Thank OP

Pvp is only skilled in any game until someone finds the most op build, then everyone and their mother, their dog, their little sister and their newborn baby brother start spamming that build, then it gets nerfed by the devs then the cycle repeats. it always happens in games with pvp. Though Anet thankfully is more about balancing than most devs. So stuff like this from what I hear anyway doesn't last long. Besides pvp without a meaningful goal is just kinda a waste of time just like pve raiding.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

or

B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

whats a meaningful goal in your opinion? is your server being the best server on the continent not a meaningful goal? Arena net are the masters of meaningful pvp..do you remember the 1 million dollar pvp tournament they did in guild wars 1? if you really want to scrutinize it that way, then nothing in any game is a meaningful goal, because at the end of the day they are just games.

for some reason some people feel if there's any sort of auto-attack skill and/or you don't have a hotbar with 30+ skills there is no skill to combat... crazy i know.

And it only seems as though this inane logic applies to MMO's.

Nobody would dare suggest that a tough-as-steel Bullet-Hell SCHMUP that has only two attack buttons (basic attack, special attack) is easy and takes no skills because your ship doesn't have 5,000 unique attacks available to it at any given moment.

No one would claim that a fast-paced arena-based FPS' like Quake 3 takes no skill because you don't have 1000 unique attacks available for use at all times.

But somehow with MMO's, if you don't have at least 4 billion active skills spread across 100 million hotbars that cover 95% of your screen space, then that MMO is an easy no-skill casual-friendly pile of garbage. I just don't get it.
