Originally posted by Epicent At least in WoW gear does make a difference, BIG one... the best example is at lvl 10-20 pvp where are all the new players (starter edition) and all the ''elite'' players with all that nice leveling gear and they kill 1 hit any player with normal gear, which is so ridiculous btw. |

Originally posted by KingGator http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8EchclYj9c&feature=related I rest my case with this video. YOU could never do that in a million years. If gaming weren't skill based then essentially every single person on the planet could do this at the same speed as this guy..............Not gonna happen friend. |

Originally posted by KingGator I'm sorry, Let me call webster's dictionary editor and tell them they got the definition of skilled wrong. SKILL-The ability to do something well; expertise. Keep trying to come up with your own definitions kid. |

Originally posted by KingGator yet again skill-The ability to do something well; expertise. But please, by all means, keep trying to change the meaning of the word. |

Why do I forsee a future where the 2 camps rage at each other constantly, the "skilled" players about the "non skilled" holding them back in pvp/pve, and the "unskilled" complaining about the attitude of the "skilled".
Then we will see calls for seperate servers, one where you need to pass some sort of "skill" trial before you can play on, that or pay a monthly fee to play on it, to keep all the "non skilled" out. |

Originally posted by Talketzanto Not too long ago unskilled players were forced to become better. And you know what? Everyone can become better. People with no patience might ragequit after 3 days but frankly have they little to do in the game anyways, or in fact in any MMO. Learning to play better is not less rewarding or time consuming than farming better gear, it is not that different. |

Originally posted by Epicent I wonder what other areas of life somehow have no skill involved? Is it only eSport? How about cooking? How about programming? How about gardening? How about physics? How about basketball? How about public speaking? Fact is, everything in life takes skill including gaming. To pretend otherwise is just, in my opinion, trying to soothe ones own ego. If you aren't good at PVP gaming don't get all butt hurt about it. Be a great gardener instead. One of my tomato plants just died a couple days ago but am I going to pretend I had nothing to do with it? Maybe I'm a fail gardener I can deal with it. They need water I guess right LOL? Completely "unskilled" players will just stay away from PvP and harder PvE content, the same way they do now in other MMOs. Those who benefit the most are the people who play well and understand the game, but don't have the time to grind gear. |

Originally posted by KingGator I think you mean more. And yes, it is a nerd dominated future. One only has to look at how fast technology evolves as compared to other technologies and what is popular with the younger generation. Since you love to stereotype friend, wouldn't a nerd dominated future be a good think since they are so much smarter than anyone else. Oh wait, I'm sorry, I don't stereotype like you as I am not 10 and know damned well that the world isn't so black and white. |

I am not the best player in the world, but I would say I am well above average in most games. Personally, I am growing tired of the gear treadmills and carrots on sticks. I want to be challenged again. I hope GW2 can do that. Also, it is great to know that skill will be the determining factor in most situations. Be that in dungeons or PvP. I no longer have to look at another player and make excuses like "oh, look at his gear" or other jealous thoughts. I can just play and improve. It is just like SCII or a shooter. If you are getting owned, it is because you are getting outplayed. Recently I have started getting more competitive and into the more action oriented games, like Firefall for instance. It is really pulling me in like other game types have failed to do for a long time. Finally, I can play something where my skill matters, and not just how much time I wasted to get certain gear. Or how my 40 person guild dragged me through content that I couldn't complete any other way. I will be so glad to see the days of retards in "epic lootz" pulling 1/5 of the DPS as someone in much lower gear. Throw the crutch out and let the real gamers game. If you can't hack it, then get better, don't participate, or just quit completely. I am definitely too old to get back into competitive gaming, but I still really enjoy competing and trying to become a better player myself. I am just glad GW2 is going to offer that opportunity. There will be no gear excuses. It will all be about team play, builds, knowledge and skill. I can't wait. |

Originally posted by KingGator The definition says NOTHING about skill being something worth acquiring. You could have the ability to urinate faster than any other man on the planet and, while that has no use in society to my knowledge, according to the definition of the word skill, you are the most skilled person at urinating quickly. Your in over your head and you are letting your emotions dictate the meanings of words. The dictionary won't be rewritten for you friend. Sorry. |

Originally posted by KingGator Well you could have avoided this whole discussion if you just said you don't think gaming is a very important skill. You are right, it isn't. Neither is basketball. Neither is sewing. Neither is a whole lot of things in life that people enjoy doing. You are trying to act like the noble one but what you are really doing is putting down somebody else's hobby. Just like if you told me you liked to fish and I said "Pah fishing is such a waste of time. Why trying to get better at it. Go do something useful like helping the homeless" Let people have their hobbies, and let people try to get better at them without pretending you somehow have the secrets of the world and happiness.
