Yes.. but I don't think "quests" have any place in mmo's it's a SP RPG feature.

To hold back a bit works to your advantage, giving you the versatility necessary to give your mate the ultimate orgas..... oh wait, I am talking to a teen who doesnt really understand... nevermind..... move along youngling, go back to killing x and turning in y

Can someone please kill me?

GW2 has quests? When did that happen?  I don't mean the personal story.. I mean quests.

Events are NOT quests.  People have such rose colored glasses.. what do you do in a GW2 event?

Kill X

Defend X from Y

Assault X that are at location Y

Escort X to Y (a moving Defend X from Y)

Gather X of Y

Kill X of Y

Do X Y times (throw X snowball at kids Y times, etc)

Did I miss any?  Those are the Events I remember from the first 25ish levels of the game having explored every race area that was available (so not including Asura or Sylvari but how different are those going to be?)

Honestly.. this is what people are hanging their upcoming gameplay on?  I got to 25 the last BWE and was bored out of mind. I uncovered all of the explorable areas (save for the highest 20+ area that opened) and the Events were all the exact same thing except a different area with a slightly different flavor.

The backlash from GW2 is going to be huge when people get to play it for more than 3 days a month... I won't want to be anywhere near the GW2 forums.

I say this as someone who's already purchased it and plan to play it.  I still think TSW is superior, most especially in the quest department.

Here's the difference though, GW2 events actually belong in an MMO. SW's quests are basically mediocre singleplayer game quests.

Here's the biggest issue with GW2 dynamic events:  where is the challenge as an individual player?  It will be zerged by the players in the area so you could just half-ass it and still complete it because of the zerg.  My understanding is you cannot have competeing groups trying to complete the event in different ways, so the only option is the common zerg to the common goal.  I like the idea of the dyanamic events (even though each piece/part is same-old same-old as post above highlighted) but I just don't see how it will be challenging enough to keep you from being bored to tears.  They should have implemented them in a way where, for example, one group of players helps the Orcs invade while another group of players tries to stop the Orcs from invading.  Now THAT would be much more interesting.

GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind"
1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN
2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements

Guys, please stop comparing TSW with GW2. It is just the same thing in every thread I check in TSW/ GW2 forums. The both games are great and do focus on different things. GW2 has changed the mmo-rules and turned its world to fit the the real mmorpg gaming. On the other hand, Funcom has done a really great job presenting a really great game with many new things that makes the secret world, easily, of the best mmorpgs out there!

To the topic. When it comes to questing and then yeah, TSW has done perefctly. Well, quests like '' kill x number from z monster in y zone '' are there, but the questing is still good.

PS. GW2 introduce questing in a better way, making it questing-system the best to date. However, I can´t really call it questing, but exploring the world. I have already mentioned it, GW2 is much more MMORPG than any other game in the market. TSW is different and focus on other points in the game than MMORPG gaming.

I voted no because contrary to popular belief quests have not always been a Brightly lit pathway to the next stage of your development. In EQ1 you actually had to use your head on occasion. I do think that TSW is a great game, and that we need to have more quest systems like it, but it still offers most of the quests with waypoints. It's a step in the right direction, but that direction is backwards to the days of EQ1. Let's not let a bunch of whiny underachievers dictate what is "too hard" and go back to challenging games that do more than burn away the clock while your prescribed sleep aids kick in because you can't even handle going to sleep without a "helping hand".

Sadly, they're not ALL investigation quests. If they were....now THAT would be something.

Can't say I feel the same. They're fun in small doses but no thanks on just having those. Fuck that shit.

Well that's the problem with this game. It's almost entirely linear/solo oriented. Which means, the entire game rests on the back of the questing system. Which means, you need LOTS of quests, and they need to be padded to keep people subscribed longer. Which means... a lot of useless fetch quests. Now, if they had made the game social and open world like a proper MMO, and only had a handful of quests, and made them all really good, then maybe you could claim this game has the best quest system.

A lot of old MMO quests had you solving puzzles, writing things down, engaging in actual typed dialogue with NPCs, and, since the games weren't 100% quest focused, did this without watering them all down and padding them out.

It's kind of sad that 10 years later, the game with the "best quest system" is still playing catch up to games made by 15 people in a basement in the 90s.

Not even close. It's far too inconsistent and the combat isn't enjoyable.

So which game has better quests?

Name one.

SWTOR , Guild wars 2

SWTOR??? Now, you're entitled to your opinion, but you're wrong.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

Sorry, but I cannot call a game that a) still lifts the majority of its features and design from WoW, and b) is almost entirely singleplayer, one of the best MMOs. You may make a case that its a great game (debatable) but as an MMO, it fails many times over, in that there's very little massive or multiplayer about it. It's like having a first person shooter without guns.

Thank you, you've just represented the mindset of every game forum everywhere with amazing accuracy.

Some people don't like puzzles.  Some people enjoy mindless quests and not having to think about what they're doing.  Some people aren't very smart, and don't want to put that much effort into progressing their character.  Some people just want to relax and don't want to worry about learning Morse Code or understanding a basic Ceasar Cipher.

I personally love the questing in TSW and voted yes, but it makes me very sad when people like you take their own opinions and turn them into "FACT".  Don't be so short-sighted please, there are a million different gamers with a million different likes and dislikes.

Just because they don't agree with you does not make them a cynic, use your brain...

I have played it, actually.

People spout the same thing about LotRO, AoC, Rift, or whatever their favorite MMO is. "But it's sooOOOOooOOOOo different from WoW! WoW doesn't have rifts!"

Some people enjoy being dishonest, raping, stealing, and killing people too. We know that they are wrong, but in their minds they are not. It is how they act. Whether it is genetic or environmental it still does not make it right. We have a place we put these people, and they form their own little idiocracy. Now we all know that they are wrong in wanting mindless trash games, but by law we aren't allowed to lock them up and separate them from normal society. Until that day comes they are free to infect the world with invalid opinions.

Well, you have the right to your opinion, not problem righ there, but i'd really like to know how GW2 "changed the mmo.rules"

Yes, I believe these are the most interesting quests I've run in any themepark game.  It feels nothing at all like the standard WoW-era questing we're all used to.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Well, since the closest thing GW2 has to "quests" is the personal story, based on what I've seen, GW2 personal story > TSW quests hands down.

TSW does have the top notch for voice acting and cinematics (better than TOR IMO) but yeah I think the actual game play portions of GW2 personal story > game play portions of TSW quests.

Gonna repost this and remind everyone that an MMO doesn't become "good" by pretending to be a singleplayer game, because that is a battle it will NEVER win. That is why SWTOR is tanking.

It's kind of sad that 10 years later, the game with the "best quest system" is still playing catch up to games made by 15 people in a basement in the 90s.

Gonna repost this and remind everyone that an MMO doesn't become "good" by pretending to be a singleplayer game, because that is a battle it will NEVER win. That is why SWTOR is tanking.

I bought this game with the intention of beating the story in my free month and moving on. WIth that in mind I don't mind the solo content so much, and I find the investigative missions a nice change of pace. Is it completely new and innovative? Not in the least. Take away those map waypoints and shiny yellow highlights and then it'd be innvative, but the plebes couldn't play it.

Yes because we all want to spend a lot of time doing nothing.

Its questing is an interesting step id ratehr prefer freedom a mix of things, i kinda like eve or SWG's quest creation/options. You can fight or w/e its more directed to things you like. While this is feesable in TSW its not idea , its detractive to play the game this way.  This being said the quest themselves are bad from those examples.

Sorry but if i were to even think about it id want more no class /race based quest only quest "path" based quests with random prescripted events among many random quests, which match your path.. ie you are on the quest path of say a creator so you craft and mine , research alot in your quest, exploreer, fighter, etc. I get to do what i want to do when i want it. And i am super sick of 90% of qyuest being prescripted always the same. Id ratehr dig a downa  randomly created dungeon at this point and for the mix every few levels that scripted event comes out. Seems not functional... but it really is with some thought (the other quests or w/e should be real quests, i know that seems odd but the technology for this already exists, but just not in 3d mmogames, but they can be ported).

W/e rant off i just sick of limitations, and scripted game play.
