It is still better PvP than any other MMO on the market. No other MMO out there can you have a group of 15 people wipe a group of 40 evenly geared and leveled people with ease.
With the 20x increases we will see a lot of new players and a lot of people becoming vet characters, and that will mean a lot more PvP. Will be interesting! (Uzik ibnYaraq in game. Always willing to help.) |

Only got to play a couple of hours today but man was it fun. You get spammed with skill gains for pretty much everything you do.
If the grind was holding you back before, definitely check it out now. The chat was buzzing with people, saw more people roaming around than I had ever seen. Clans declaring wars on each other etc.
I would say it's worth it. I'm surprised there isn't mention of this on the main page here on mmorpg.com. It's definitely one of the more exciting going on at the moment outside of TSW release. |

Well I reinstalled and played for hours yesterday. I rerolled just to get a feeling for just how fast progression is, and was pleasantly surprised; I had almost forgotten that Darkfall actually is a really fun game. The combat system is great and the world is huge and atmospheric. Just running around doing PvE and exploring is a lot more fun than in most MMOs. What used to cripple my fun in DF was the knowledge that I had months upon months, maybe even years, of grind ahead of me - it just didnt make sense to spend such ridiculous amounts of time just to be able to survive a PvP encounter. With the grind gone, it's like the core aspects of the game really start to shine. Now you'll level your char just by doing different stuff at a normal pace - like it should have been from the start. Of course it's still not for everyone. FFA PvP with full loot will never be for everyone. But for those who like a challenge and some risk vs reward gameplay, it's well worth a shot. It will probably never be a perfect game, but given the state of current MMOs I'm glad that it's still around and that the servers might be a little more populated again, at least for a while.

I want to play but it's just bad timing.
With DayZ, TSW, and the holiday, I am simply not going to be able to find the time.... :( BigCountry | Head Hunters | www.wefarmpeople.com |

I just wanted to paste something I said in another thread that I think is very true about why Darkfall is still the best MMO out there:

Originally posted by Uzik this is all only part true. 1. its not true that vets will constantly gank you and take your stuff HOWEVER, you do have to be clever about where and how you plant yourself. 2. IF AND ONLY IF you want to compete with the people who play tons of hours then you will have to go thru all the ropes to be in that category of player. That is going to be true for every single solitary competitive anything worth competing for. 3. many people flat out do not have the stomach for defeat. They take it far to personal and then start to blame the game. The trick is to know your limits and be realistic. Taking me for example, I only attacked or took my pvp seriously if I had the first contact. If someone else has first contact on me its a mega HUGE advantage and I just assume I will lose in that case so I dont worry about it. does your game have rainbow sprinkles and magic ponies!? |

Look through youtube, and you will find some movies where elite players kill some maxed noobs with pretty average characters and crappy gear. |

I don't know where you're getting this. You can max out EVERYTHING in couple of weeks, that's including stats and sub skills (intensifies, masteries etc), even when playing casually (say 15-20 hrs a week). Just get in-game and see the crazy gains. I cast 1, 1 single Exploding Charge, it went from lvl 1 to lvl 32.....one single cast. With 20x gains increase, you will be a FULLY DEVELOPED VETERAN (as far as lvling, skilling up goes) in less time than it takes you to reach max lvl in WoW or any other game for that matter. So definitely worth a try if this is your type of game. The skillup barrier has finally been completely removed. |

But their original intention was retarded and a system like UO would have been terrible for balance reasons. As to what the OP is asking: The new skill gains should allow you to be PvP compeitive within 2 months. Will you have everything maxed? No. Do you need everything Maxed to compete? No. Will you hit max damage. You should. Will you be able to cycle the same spells as everyone else? You should be able to.
Edit: Based on what people are saying you shouldn't even take 2 months

There will continue to be no content added to the game until 2.0 is released (if it ever is) Add to that. A sure wipe will occur as well. Stay away. Stay far away from DF. And stop handing this incompetent dev team any more of your money. |

I was never a macroer, so my original toon had reasonable skills but not maxxed. In one day now I've matched those skills, and got about half of the stat gain (str, int etc). In a week my new toon will greatly exceed the skills and stats of my original. This is gonna be fun, bring on the seiges.

Well, 20x skill gain doesen't help in the long run if there's gonna be (and I think there must be) a wipe in 2.0. Though it's nice for the players to be able to max out their charcters even for a little while and see what the game has to offer on higher "levels". |

Originally posted by Mmorpgerius 1. clearly its not designed for the long run. They expect most of their money to come from Darkfall 2 2. from what I understand there is info on 'wipe vs no wipe' but most people dont care to do the research. I also dont care to do the research but with that said I would be a bit surprised if the agenda is not to simply make two different games completely. Just like every other MMO has ever done in the history of MMOs does your game have rainbow sprinkles and magic ponies!? |

This may seem stupid, but the problem i have with Darkfall is kind of an obvious one.I love the open world and the freedom to skill up whatever i feel like at the moment.I like the sandbox feeling it gives which i find immersive.I just don't think a game should focuse to heavily on one aspect.Sure pvp is great(I occassionally enjoy it) but to make it the soul focus. Everyone at the time told me it was a sandbox, but i've never known a sandbox to emphasize one aspect over another. It's just me and my ignorant opinion, but i just think it's a mistake to cater to one type of player specifically.Other then that whiny carebear go back to WOW complaint Darkfall was rather a enjoyable experience. |

Secondly, many former Darkfall players feel exactly the same way. It was marketed and sold to us as a spiritual sucessor to UO. Admittedly, from the beginning they were emphasizing it is a PvP centric game featuring naval combat and territory control. In reality while some promises were fulfilled their reference to classic UO was misplaced in that there was alot more going on within UO besides the PvP. Not to mention how much no skill cap hurt the game. |
