OP  6/28/12 11:16:33 AM#1

This game had better have spectacular improvement in the next BWE or this will be just one more MMO in a long line that fails to meet expectations. The same people demanding the game be released are those who will be here a month later bashing it or moving on to the next hyped game. I really thought Anet was going to take their time and make sure the game was "ready." as they said. Having been in tons of beta tests for MMOs, I cannot fathom how they are going to fix all the problems this game still has by 28 August.

There were over 8 pages of just "bugs." in the few hour stress test yesterday. That does not even take into account things like the UI not being customizable. They would not allow any discussion yesterday in regard to improvements. All threads on that were locked. Likely they will be concentrating on squashing bugs for the next two months.  While good to get those taken care of, it is bad for anyone wanting any type significant improvment in gameplay systems. They will not want to implement anything major knowing that more bugs could come up before release.

I really like GW2 and think it could be a great game. However, if they release without implementing many of the improvements that were all over the forums during/after last BWE, it simply will not be a great game.

I can see your point but I really don't expect it to make the game fail.  I believe that Guild Wars 2 is far more stable than what we are used to in MMOs.  There is just too much content and moving peices to completely kill them all.  Is 8 pages of bugs too many?  What can you compare it to?  8 pages might be small...I don't know.

I can't wait - might be clouding my judgement!

Seriously speaking, I had much more functional problems in the stress test than I had in the previous BWE which also made me a bit worried. Let's hope they'll pull it off. Would be a sad day indeed if the launch went south for this game after all the talk about and expectations for a release when it's Truly Ready (tm).

Just because you think that a game NEEDS to have some obscure feature doesn't mean that the game actually NEEDS that obscure feature that you seem to care about.

Besides, the Stress Test was an older build.

Let's leave something for after launch. We are just tired of waiting. We want to play the dammed game. We can handle some updates after launch too.

Valid point OP, but I would hold off on your concerns until after BW3.  As in, let's wait to see what has happened between now and July 20.

I don't think they will allow UI customization, at least not in the way other MMOs are doing it with mods.

They should be worried and concerned. The studio had more than ample time to fix things.

I understand your speculation and I share some myself.  I thought that they would take their time, probably november with a release date.  We've only had two stress and two BWE to test out the game.

With that said, that is not saying the game is not reday. The fact that you are AWARE of mutliple pages of bugs and what not does not mean GW2 has more bugs than other MMOs.  Other MMO betas I have been a part of requested feedback directly in the game, not on a forum which is publically visible.

Also, the game is pretty polished.  It definately has a lot of work ahead of it, but what game doesnt?  Its always going to require tweaks, no game is ever bug free, even all mighty WoW.  I also think that the game was in silent development for many years before they gave us a sneak peak in 2010.

I also think that a game without a subscription, you announced it years ago, prepurchases began months ago...you need to get it out of the door.  I think that for a game without a subscription, it is pretty polished, receives a lot of attention from its dev team, and that same dev team REALLY listens to us.  Several of the main issues I had with BWE1 were addressed in BWE2.  The performance issues, for some reason, were ironed out for yesterdays stress test.

I think I am ready for it to be released in August.  Another month or two would have been good too, but end of August isnt bad.

Have faith playa!

Who says they won't? They made a LOT of fixes between BWEs 1 and 2 after all, and we have 2 more months.

Will they fix all of them? Probably not. Might even find some more. But ehy'll fix a good number I'm sure.

As for UI customization, they said months ago they're interested in making it a possibility but that it couldn't happen before launch. I'd like to see it happen, but even without that, and even with the current bugs, the game's hardly unplayable. Performance issues still exist for some people, but it seems a lot better than it was at BWE1. In fact I heard from people in stress Test 2 that it had improved performance over BWE2 even, So there's good reason to believe it will be OK.

I don't think this game is anywhere near as bad as, say, AoC was at launch. I will admit to a little concern about the many zones we haven't seen yet though.

A stress test is different than a BWE - you know that don't you? Did you play BWE2 or just the stress test? The stress test was for the server hardware NOT the game so they wanted information on that not anything else.

BWE2 was amazing and pretty fluid for me. Not too many bugs just little things here and there. People who were complaining about the BWE mostly wanted OP professions, etc. I felt it was amazing.

They can do plenty in 2 months plus they have closed beta and alpha testers playing the game looking at things too. Get a grip and let A.Net do their thing to get the game finished.

I compared this to the last CBWE I played in TSW and the bugs were staggering for a game releasing this weekend. GW2 looks very  polished compared to TSW.

game just need correct some minor bugs (traits i suppose is easy to fix), improve performance on WvW and thats it.

BW2 was already in very good shape

and compare a stress test with a BW is a bit ridiculous...

It's amazing how much time you have (being a game developer) to post this insightful information about the state of GW2. It's clear you are more qualified to make a judgment call on a release date. Too bad nobody told ANet.

ummm GW2 has all the features its going to release with already in game and its just showing the last two starting zones for races and performance improvements. ANet has already said that they are releasing with systems in place the way they are and nothing drastic is going to be changed. Im not sure why you would want it prolonged longer for? The game is ready to be released now IMO with a few bug fix hotfixes here and there. World vs World will be on monitor the first week after release as they have stated for better server matching and nothing at all in the current game is game breaking . If your looking for additional features then your going to have to wait on patches as stated by Anet in their old forum posts.

They could be using a beta build that they're willing to let the public see, but sitting on a "release candidate" until it's closer to release date.

The Secret World just released a "final candidate" on their TestLive servers that alleviated most of my worries, and GW2 has until the end of August to clean things up.  I expect it will be in fine shape closer to release date.

I don't understand the concerns. What bugs? This game is easily the most polished MMO I have ever played. I found a few things here and there, but there was hardly any issues. Especially when compared to something like TSW, which is filled with bugged quests and issues ... and the head start is tomorrow. Hell, maybe they have a build that doesn't suck as bad, but their beta build was WAY worse than GW2's.

I don't expect it to be 100% bug free on release, as that is asking for a lot. Nothing is perfect and it will be a work in progress forever (like every game). But another 2 months of polish, optimizing and balance changes ... the game should be in really good shape for release ... hell, it already is right now.

Another thing you have to remember, is this isn't a subscription based game. You will not have people leaving in droves and never returning. People can come back and play as they please, which is a HUGE difference between this game and basically any other AAA MMO title. The accessibility to the game is unparalleled by any MMO I have played. Except Guild Wars 1 ;)

Only 8 pages of bugs between all users? Isn't that pretty low? I can remember submitting 2-3 bug reports in SWTOR daily (a lot of good that did). Ah well, I haven't played GW2 so I have no idea what is/is not broken and whether it is gamebreaking or not, so I'll just shut up now.

Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.

i found a couple of minor quest bugs in the last BWE, but nothing i really cared for. im sure there are little bugs here and there, but im under the impression that the game is pretty much ready, barring any serious issues with the higher lvl zones. we'll just have to trust them on those ones.

in any case, judging from the state of beta, GW2 will by far be the smoothest MMO launch to date. the rest will fall into place within a few months, as is typical for MMO's.

Would be a sad day indeed if the launch went south for this game after all the talk about and expectations for a release when it's Truly Ready (tm).

The nature of the stress test was not to measure optimization, but to try and kill the servers. If you check the log on message when you try to enter GW2, it says as much.

As long as the servers did not crash, all is well.

"This game had better have spectacular improvement in the next BWE or this will be just one more MMO in a long line that fails to meet expectations. The same people demanding the game be released are those who will be here a month later bashing it or moving on to the next hyped game. "

so what makes you think they arent gonna be working on the game in between the bwe's.eather way,id say where better off without the crowd whos going to bash the game a month later and then move on to the next mmo, there probably the same mouthbreathers who wanted every wow feature in swtor and then complained everyday when they got it about the game being boring.yeah,go figure
