I really don't get this. . but I don't live it Europe. . . doesn't it work out to about 18.76 US. . .

That price includes VAT. . how can you discount that. .a tax is a tax. . why should Funcom pay it?  I am confused.

The Secret World includes 30 days of free game time. Each additional month has a cost of $14.99 / €14.99 incl. VAT / £12.99 incl. VAT.

Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!

Consider yourself lucky. My city, New York, is basically a bunch of warehouses and a tiny park overlooking a bridge.

wait hold on a minute my old buddy cooper(where did that guy go.. perhaps its bully now??)  said all the cities were made to scale and everything was exactly how it is in the real world with an enourmous amount of things to do:P

XD, seriously?  I need to find that post and add it to my sig.

It doesn't even look like Brooklyn to be honest and the painted skyline absolutely kills it for me. NYC has one of the most iconic skylines in the world and they couldn't even do it justice. I can't say much about London or Seoul, since I never been there so maybe those are to scale.

Edit: I originally wanted to play as an Illuminati but the starter city, the crappy deck constumes and wannabe Snooki handler killed it for me. Now it's a toss up between Dragon and Templars.

lol I know was just making a joke that cooper guy that used to pimp this game was trying to convince me every starting city was exactly how they look in real life.

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. I've vacationed in Seoul twice, I want it to make it a yearly summer thing though. However, I don't know if the game could compact the space enough to make it really "Soulful" :)

The 12.99 is British Pounds and 12.99 pounds is 20.26 not 18.76.  even accounting for a 20% value added tax that is more than what any other region pays.

Keeping it constant in U.S. dollars with an additional 20% tax we would pay 17.99 rather than the 20.26 the British are paying

What is "real"? How do you define "real"?

6/25/12 8:03:16 PM#134

Stop buying sub-based games.  That solves your problem right there.

You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???

Be afraid.....The dragons are HERE!

Heh, whenever I see the outcry becouse subs for mmos are to big I feels like I am in kindergarden...

MMOs even for 30$ a month are cheaper entertainment than most. Most singleplayer games have like what 6 to 8 hours campaign and cost what 50$? Times changed and rarely we see game that have more than 20h of gameplay. At standard 6-8 hours its 6 to 8$ per hour, than dubious multiplayer that could maybe add double that or not if it isnt that good and allow aimbots in fps or stuff like that. For 20$ (UK rating) you would need to play for 3 to 8 hours per month to get more entertainment and cheaper than many new singleplayer games, anything more and you are in profit.

And lets not start about cinema where movies may be good or bad but still cost half of monthly sub for mmo if not more for what 1.5h of entertainment? And more if you need to buy gasoline for a car and drive to nearest cinema, hidden additional costs, than you buy cola to have something to drink, additional costs and so on untill one movie end up in same level as MONTHLY sub or more.

Still too costly? Great than for entertainment watch tv its cheaper and i hope you enjoy constant commercial crap.

F2P is so great you say? Great lets say star trek online, for pve you may do with whatever you want but for pvp? You better take your credit card and pay 25$ for some overpowered ship to win or struggle against OP P2W ships (escort carrier for example, or uber consoles). F2P are just one big scam in most cases (GW2 may be diffrent here, we will see) where it start innocently and than more power is gradually put into shop at bigger prices. For F2P to stay competitive you usually spend 2x, 3x or even more per month than on sub driven game becouse of the nice gimmicks that cost $$$ and for competitive not fully casual game are more or less mandatory.

You want free game maybe without cash shop and with constant updates? And all those hardware isnt even most costly part, salaries for specialists that can add new content and keep the wheels moving are, cheap specialists and you see bug over bug and completly unblanaced gameplay, becouse peoples that do it for "few bucks" arent really good at this, most of them are right from schools without any experience and just with theoretical knowledge that sometimes is completly false and do more harm than good.

I would like free beer from nearby shop too and free gasoline for car, maybe even new car for free... but its a pipe dream of 10 year old kid.

And no im not in the country that pays well, everything is damn costly (prices not much lower than rest of europe but standard monthly salary around 500 Euro if you are lucky) thats why I play mmos its cheapest entertainment per hour I can find that dont have constant commercials of some cat food every ten minutes thrown right into my face or have tons of hidden costs that make my wallet scream in terror...

And yes its obvious but from what I read here its still to hard to grasp for most, maybe education systems need some major revamp there...

Really is stunning the amount of posters that don't grasp the issue. Flies right over their head. Guess they're too busy posting novella posts on forums to get it.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Typical American, thinks the USA is the only country in the world.

Well I was actually thinking of trying this game out if the launch wasn't a typical Funcom disaster, but now I think I'll pass as I refuse to pay that much for a game sub on general principle.

Typical Russian responding before knowing the correct answer, he is Dutch btw, damn you Russians are easy.

I don't think you understand...

Every MMO in the UK with a sub fee is £8.99. (WoW, Lotro, WAR, Aion etc.)

So why is The Secret World £12.99?

How are you supposed to compete with other MMO's when they're all cheaper, more well known and have larger companies backing them?

It's confusing and annoying. I'll play my early access, possibly the free month if I like it enough, and then probably stop. I don't think I could bare paying 12.99 when every other game is 8.99.

Unless the game is in a league of it's own (which I doubt) I won't be paying the sub fee.

Wow. the UK pays 8.99 a month for LotR and Aion? Those games are ftp in the US...you guys really are getting hosed

Lotro still has the option for sub, which is £8.99, and Aion has only very recently gone F2P, before which is cost £8.99 a month.

My point was every single sub MMO has been £8.99 a month, but suddenly The Secret World costs £12.99.

Shame really, it's a good game.

lol yea same thing is going on in CB forums and same exact responses from people who can't just sit back for two seconds and see they(funcom) are charging more to a certain region than any other MMO that charges a sub is currently charging that SAME  region

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. Has Funcom responded to this yet, did they mean Euro's not pounds, could be a typo or they just plain screwed up. Heaven forbid in this world today that you make a mistake without raving lunatics going off the deep end!

Just shows how much people love to bash this game or need to go outside and get some air.

Here you go just for some other people in this thread, please tell me why it is ok for Anet to do this?

The price in North America is $150. The price in Britain is £130. £130=$205, so people in UK are paying $55 more. Now while cost conversions do have to take into account various factors, can somebody at ANet explain to me why we have to pay $55 more? I would be willing to buy the Collectors Edition at around £100, but there is no way in hell I'm paying an extra £30 for no reason.
