I started playing a few days ago and I just love it. Yeah it has some current issues but it's an addictive game and 2.0 is going to be amazing.

FFXIV has definitely come a long way. I've been back playing for about 2 months now, and it's the only game that I've played this long and there is no end sight of things to do. Plus with 2.0 this fall, I'm thinking GW2 will be collecting dust while I play FFXIV. 

Since when could you make male miqo-te. I remember long ago it was just female only. Seems this game has changed a ton from when it came out. I guess when 2.0 comes out I will give it a shot. Nothing looks the same as I remember in beta.

It'll be a completely different game. As it is now it's way different. Give it a shot. I'm with Jimmydean. My gw2 will be collecting dust with his.

Sounds interesting. I played XIV in beta, and wasn't sold enough. Too much promise undelivered, too many fatal flaws. But it seems Yoshida has done the job with the right vision in mind. In hoping he did a good job… 

To add on the off-topic at hand, I too find it was interesting that the author of the interview did not know much of the game.

So it will be an update (A big one I guess) or they will also relaunch the physical game client? Does anyone know?

Because I'm thinking to buy the game right now and I'm guessing that when the day comes, I will have to upgrade the client or download a totally new one?

2.0 Will be a completley different client than the one now. Once 2.0 is availabe they will offer a download for people who have already purchased the game.

Graphics aren't being improved, theyre just being changed.

This interview doesn't reveal much we didn't already know. And as usual with Yoshi, details are lacking - I guess that's his way of trying to hype the game...

I'll try 2.0, since we who bought the game earlier are promised a new trial. But I don't expect much. Yoshi & co isn't much of an improvement compared to the old team, imo. Lots of talk and little action, that's my impression on him. I really hope 2.0 will take my breath away, but I don't believe it.

So, someone who have captured ie Ifrit, can hold it "hostage" as long as he wants, is that what this means? If so, this has to be the most stupid idea any game dev ever had.

No, there was another interview that stated that they only had a few days to use it. I'm sure the devs are way ahead of you....... There is nothing worse than arm chair wannabe game developers who think they have all of the answers.....

For the most part most LS are already astablished and dont need any more members.

Just go up and talk to people its what i do , im never bored in 14 between leveling classes , job quest, class quest, crafting, minning, Doungen crawling, Flame rank grinding, trying to get gear,NM killing , Boss killing, Leve quests there should always be something to do.

No, it has a sub.  however if I understand the roadmap on their site, there will be a trial period, either offered to those who had subs or maybe to everyone.  Ultimately tho, this will be a sub based game.

trollololol... does it mean they will relaunch a new game disc soon??? seems liek i payed a paperweight on its 1st release of disappointment... my LE FF14 copy is rotting day by day... its already more than 2 yrs passin by, hopefully they will release a new server & compensate old players liek me... i might consider to try this for teh 2nd time as well...

if it will be f2p or like 5€ a month, im in. otherwise... nah thanks ;)

i really hope this game does well in 2.0. i was one of many who rolled up into a ball crying when i logged on to see how bad the game was. a solid relaunch of a revamped game would show devs/companies that launch doesn't have to be a final product.

If you realy love then PAY! or you think people and companies can live from free game play? Creating (good) games takes a lot of time and money. Same as with good restaurant. Immagine if any1 would love to eat free. They would close doors very soon.

F2P should be banned by law. Or, CS is present, law should ban using term F2P.

Asking a question doesn't make me a "wannabe game developer", so just relax, dude. And if you think there is "nothing worse" than ppl commenting and asking questions, it may surprise you that even most game devs disagree with you. Else they wouldn't ask for feedback.

A large portion of XIV's players tried the game hoping for the best of XI.

As a for-instance. I enjoyed Behest in the current incarnation. If you're doing guildleves, or just grinding solo or with one or two others, you can try to stay near the npc camps or gates and talk to npc's on half-hour intervals for a sort of free guildleve that gives you a chunk of experience in a fashion very similar to a guild leve.

It makes it easier for a solo player to gain experience. Especially at lower levels, where many felt using their leves was a "waste".

While it's true I'm not familiar with the intricacies of Final Fantasy XIV (I am familiar with many of the game's more obvious and highly publicized shortcomings, however!), my job on this particular assignment was to find out what Square was planning to do with FFXIV for the game's relaunch. I got you guys the information, how you feel about that information is up to you. My experience with the game isn't too relevant in this regard.

This wasn't really an opinion piece, though I did note a few things offhand that sounded interesting to me.

 

It was a good article, I think.

There's a value to having someone looking at the game with "fresh eyes" (so to speak). Someone familiar with the current game is not going to perceive the changes and updates the same as someone unfamiliar with it.

For all intents and purposes, MikeB's experience with and reaction to 2.0 is representative of someone coming to the game for the first time. There's definitely value in that.
