Played both and I actually liked SWTOR more despite all of it's problems. Neither of them didn't last more than a couple of months for me though. |

I'm still amazed each time I see another of those posts from people who can't figure out any high level / end game gameplay which doesn't involve grinding raids in a MMORPG. "Don't restrict what is possible to the limits of your own imagination" - Le Cycle de Cyan tome 2 - Six Seasons on Ilo. |

I think SWTOR beat itself. The immersion was ruined for me when I spent five minutes beating on one guy with my lightsaber that is depicted as being capable of cutting through a 4-foot-thick steel door in Episode I. I think that alone turned a lot of people off and they said, "this isn't Star Wars," and left. All they had to do was put up a shield generator graphic and they could have easily fixed their lore. |

Originally posted by MMOGamer71 They do. Planet, companion, etc. Will be interesting to see what happens after they launch all of the content they already had in the works. As for the OP, meh, I personally think Rift is the much better game and has a lot more long term entertainment value. But that is just my personal opinion. I would imagine sub wise SWTOR still has more. For now anyways.... EDIT: Also have to add that Trion does an amazing job with content updates. Comparing the two games shows how impressive they are in this area and how lackluster BW is. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |

umm swtor had more fans at release, has had a smaller drop percantage wise in fans, and has a shitload more current subscribers?
How in seven hells has rift beaten swtor? |

Originally posted by Omnifish I don't play RIFT or even plan on going back to the game. Im actually a altaholic that loves to go through leveling content. If anything I should be championing for SWTOR since it has better leveling. I love that im being pegged as a Rift fanboy because im pointing out the obvious. Maybe you missed it but this thread isnt only about SWTOR and RIFT its about any MMO that releases with limited endgame being a failure.
TO any devs that see this: DONT EVEN ATTEMPT TO CREATE A MMO IF YOU CAN"T DELIVER A ENDGAME THAT COMPETES WITH EXISTING GAMES!!!!!! Playing: GW2 |

Played both for a few months. In love with both for about 2-3 months. I got a Bounty Hunter to 47 and couldn't find a reason to continue and my rift toon I got to 50, but I'm not a raider so it dried up when bg's wore off. I'm pretty casual and these games were very easy to level, but something was missing, I couldn't put a finger on it, but neither had staying power for me. In neither game did I even come close to rushing to top level. |

judt looked at the XFire numbers, Rift is 71st, SWOTOR is #11. Looks like a lor of people disagree with the OP. RIFT does not even have 1000 user hours per day , even DC Universe Online beats RIFT |

Trion decided to wait the extra 6 months to a year and make sure the game's major features were in before releasing it. It still rushed it a tad, but it totated a polished game and could bank on what it promised. Bioware rushed Star WArs out to appease their EA overlords. And so we're here. Stability is a better example as opposed to subscribers. SWTOR is loosing mroe subscribers at a faster rate than Rift. SWTOR is in the process of downscaling SWTOR operations. Rift is maintaining. |

Originally posted by Grixxitt This. EA has different expectations than Trion. And i don't think that Rift has more than 500k - 1 mio. subscribers.
Furthermore it's much easier for Trion to deliver updates/content patches more frequently because the overall package of the initial game was weak compared to other p2p mmorpgs. MMO.Maverick measured the mmo worlds and came to a shocking conclusion: Originally posted by MMO.Maverick http://www.morpg.com/mobile/forums.cfm?ismb=1&threadId=306052
I'm not saying that's a bad strategy because Trion Worlds has some decent success. There's even an Interview with Lars Butler about it: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/171894/Trions_Lars_Buttler_discusses_what_went_wrong_with_38_Studios_Star_Wars__.php
He maybe sounds arrogant because Trion also tried to rival WoW and "failed". |

Believe it or not most players on my srver in SWTOR haven't yet. As for PvP with ranked warzones coming soon SWTOR is looking good for PvP too. With large server merging/formation and Bioware likely to adapt its subscription model SWTOR is looking a better bet for a mmo right now. Heck, it's Star Wars folks, that alone is good enough for me. |
