While I don't have any issues with people using RMT in online games I do think that any game that allows/support this isn't balanced. The idea behind virtual games and virtual worlds is that you can only acquire items/levels by being online and actually using/playing the virtual world. Bringing something that's outside of the virtual world just makes it completely unbalanced.

So what about people who don't have time to play?

A) Don't play online games.

B) Progress slower than people who invest more time in the game.

Your personal wealth shouldn't affect any virtual worlds. Unfortunately the line is starting to blur and there are only few balanced online games out there at the moment.

Selling power through RMT will be the downfall of online games

getting something faster than others is power.

 None of this is true. Tens of thousands of people have finished Diablo 3 without using the auction houses.

I suppose those are investments ..... right?  To be fair the Diablo 3 players can turn around and sell their newly purchased items when they out level them.  Cutting losses and potentially making a profit.

Here's my view on buying game items.

Someone who plays golf gladly pays 100's on a good set of golf clubs to try help improve their game. Those golf clubs are pretty useless outside of the game as they have only one real purpose; for playing golf. Same with any 'game'.

Just because it's virtual doesn't change this aspect in any way. People invest money into their fav hobbies.

As long as their are fools willing to buy what I put up on AH I will keep putting more up. I have already covered the cost of the game so I'm not complaining.

I still can't believe people pay a lot for items, I sell all my legendary high level drops for under $15 and sold over 10 items already.

Maybe there would be riots everywhere, but you can already use gems to buy weapons. All you have to do is to convert your gems into gold then use the world-wide "auction" system to buy crafted mats/directly buy weapons.

In fact, it is very similar to what Diablo III is doing; however, the difference in power which can be "bought" is assumed to be significantely lower in GW2 than in Diablo III. 

Not really considering the stats on gear is completely neglegant in GW2 compared to every game, which means it absolutely means nothing which gear you have. Secondly and i love how everyone forgets this, one can farm gems in the game. Yes they have a system in place similar to Turbines store point system in LOTRO where you can simply farm gems to get the items from the store for free, sure it takes longer but it's still an option most people overlook since we have the instant gratification thoughts in this generation.

D3 you can't really do that, because the games engine is ridiculous when it comes to crafted items stats needed for end game (hell etc levels) and since they made the change to the item dropping scripts often you are left with nothing useful over and over and over again whereas in GW2 you get a drop for everyone who participated and everyone can use those drops because they are for your class. Yup, everytime I hear someone compare D3's RMAH to GW2's AH they always conveniently forget and/or ignore that. From what I've seen so far in the GW2 AH, there's not much that I'm interested in, the little that I would want I'm going to farm the gems and get for free.

I KNOW that I can get Diablo RMAH items for free in game because I have already managed it.

You are ASSUMING that we will be able to  get GW2 Cash Items for free in game because the developers have said so, but you do not know yet if it will prove feasible.

I try my best to stay as far away from that real cash AH as I can.

I've re-rolled characters and play exclusively Hardcore now.

The community is smaller, the gold market is better, the game is more about the content than the gold farming.
